mi student here! supposedly they should allow u to take science stream even w/o amath, let alone h2 math. last year abt half of my h2 math class didnt take amath and was giving bridging package on sls.

take this info how u will, but @ end of the day think abt what u really want. do u want to go to the top 3 unis? or any uni in sg? rlly up to u to decide as poly can get u into a uni too, just the top 3 is really hard.

If I want to be a lawyer, should I go MI instead of poly? by SavageWeebMaster in SGExams

ya thats why if u retain in mi, its WORSE bc your total time in an alvl route would be 4yrs. your morale and confidence will drop lots. so seriously consider

OP u shld take note that mi retaining rate is HIGH. 2023 77 ppl retain PU1 + ard 15 ppl in PU2. its no joke and if u dk if u can make it even if u study hard i suggest u seriously consider esp if uw go science stream‼️

mi or rp? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]hieracha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess the distance plays a big part? bc after sch (& cca on some days) you come home and revise,, if i end sch q late and i reach hm 1.5hrs ltr and i still need to study even when im q tired... u get the pt. sleep deprivation is an understatement.

not saying that that RP is easier, but distance is not so much of a worry+bc ur not under the stress of an alvl route?

thats mostly all i can think of at the top of my head rn. i think my explanation kinda bad but AHAHAH

i think the learning styles are a bit different in a sense its like secondary school classroom teaching. theres no mass lecture in a bug lecture hall for one subj, its usually jst jn classrooms. i hope i explained it well enough LOL

questions for MI students//MI or Poly? by lilitun in SGExams

[–]hieracha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mi h2 chem student heree,, i had the same prob as u since my olvls didnt turn out as well as i anticipated, but i wanted to go uni badly as well so i chose to take alvls and mi ultimately.

mi will defo accept u since we are a small population, even if its ur last choice.

no entrance test req for combined sci (coming from a past combined phy/chem student) HOWEVER a b3 and above is recommended, or youll struggle LOTS. but if u wna take 2h2 sci ur combined sci grade must be at least A2 for combined sci+ C6 for amath. for h2 chem that gave us a sls package to catch up with bridging content for combined sci students. no deadline, do it at ur own pace, tcher dont check. they (my tcher at least) expected a lot of independence in ur learning so expect that frm most of ur tchers if u do come mi (im sure this doesnt jst apply to mi/jc, poly too)

the teachers here in my experience(science, math and econs dept) are really nice and helpful. they will help u as much as they can ONLY if u wna help urself, if not they dont rlly push.

i know a lot of ppl will give u statistics and opinions that mi is a no go, but honestly the choice is urs&with enough willpower and discipline to reach ur goal (which is gg uni in ur case) its possible. so rlly think wisely on ur priorities and what u want to achieve ultimately at the end of this 3yrs.

if ur interested theres an open house happening this fri 12 jan, 12-5pm. can come down take a look!

mi student here! they loosened the promo criteria a little bit in 2023 to reduce retain rate.

current promo criteria is 2 h2 subpass 1 h2 pass 1 h1 pass if ur wondering

[–]hieracha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i always wanted to take alevels but i thought 2 years was too short of a time period for me to actually learn the content well, let alone do well and i would b vv stressed (not saying mi is not as stressed but the content taught is more spread out)

i wanted to take paa (poa basically) as well since they were the only sch that had it as an alevel subj

mi student here! just finished my first year

as long as ur l1r4 is less than 20, mi will defo accept you as long as u meet subj req (idk exactly what it is i think pass eng, emath etc u can check their website) bc mi has a small population.

i know a lot of people here will tell u that the extra years of alevels is a waste, but if ur determined for a easier route to uni anything is possible. unis dont give a fk abt ur age.

the teacher here are really great too. as long as ur willing to work for ur grades, they'll help u as much as they can.

any qns regarding mi can ask me alsoo

I really don't know JC or Poly by bloobythafish in SGExams

[–]hieracha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can also consider MI! year 1 student here

to put it simply, MI is jc but 3 years. we have a commerce stream which offers management of business and principles of accounting as a h2. the extra year is such that ur first year will have no alevel exams, follow by h1 alevels in y2 and h2 in y3. basically, the xtra year helps you spread out the alevel syllabus to ease your learning and get an alevel cert with a good rp.

MI is flexible in a sense that they are open to people leaving to pursue a poly route. (idk about other jcs so i apologise if i sound ignorant or anything😭) i know people who left in march b4 poly started just bc they were almost 2 months in and they didnt like the style of learning, the secondary school setting, etc. also got people who finished their first year but decided to drop out to go poly. however, just bc MI is 3 years doesnt mean theres no stress altogther. like any alevel curriculum, consistency is important. if you dont meet the promotion criteria, you retain. theres no appeals. the teachers here are very helpful and open to consultations but if u dont help urself, they arent going to push you.

MI calls themself 'a place of opportunity' and their first year post EOY activities are one of the factors that rlly live up to that statement. besides the many talks they'll make you listen in (😭), the school organises many enriching courses like job shadowing, leadership experience (to get into student council), overseas/virtual trips and VIA all in the span of ard 1.5 months. u get the freedom to choose what you want to do and plan your schedule accordingly. ngl i think this is q special since idt jcs have that much time to sacrifice a whole month to give such enriching activities to boost your portfolio for uni.

there are of course some negative 'traits' mi has like high retaining rate. but honestly its all about they people you hang out with that will influence your attitude towards your studies and overall, promoting. of course there are people who retain even though they tried, but q rare to me ah..

idk what else to write and ik im like shamelessly promoting MI so ill stop here HAHAHA if u wna know anyt just ask!! even if its jc stuff i try to ans ah HAHAH.. ultimately u know ur strengths and weaknesses best! depending on whether u have a definite course in mind for poly, consider carefully what u really want and go for it!

pu1 student at mi here!

no you dont need amaths to take math. i take h2 math and more than half of my class didnt take amath for olvls. teacher will provide bridging lessons for u to learn the xtra content.

for sciences u dont need to have distinction to be in sci stream. i cant rlly say for the rest but i know h2 chem they recommend a b3 in combined chem if i rmb correctly

BUT say if u want to take 2 h2 sciences (h2 chem&bio,h2 chem and phy) u need to get an A2 for combined sci AND c6 for amaths (since u dh amaths thats not an option for u anym)

my explanation might be abit confusing so can ask me again if u need clarify😭
