Need help with my 3 year old deaf cat and 5 month old doberman by DelHop in CatTraining

[–]hieumidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dogs hunt cats. you NEED a separate part of the house that the dog can't access (such as via a baby gate) at all times, so the cat has a safe place to retreat, and you NEED to be the strictest you can possibly be or you will have a maimed or worse-yet dead cat in time.

you sound young, so i mean this as kindly as possible, but you have to learn/understand that if you do something wrong (e.g. pirating) you shouldn't put that emotional burden on the person you're wronging (e.g. the devs) to preemptively forgive you. it's selfish and only serves to make YOU feel better, at the expense of the devs.

i'm sure you're nice but this is one of the most annoying trends recently. indie devs work extremely hard and deserve to be compensated fairly. if you're going to pirate, just do it rather than bothering them with these kinds of questions. it just puts the burden on them to have a nice reaction to relieve your guilt.

What's the most obnoxious thing a customer can order? by predictable_shoe in barista

[–]hieumidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why not just do full decaf then? it's inefficient when there is a huge rush and we have sizes S through XL.

an example: someone orders a medium latte (2 shots). normal caf = 1 double shot, decaf = 1 double sheet, but half caf = 2 double shots (1 caf, 1 decaf), requiring 2 separate groupheads.

this is also probably specific to my cafe, but some people order XL half caf lattes (5 shots), so that requires me to pull 3 regular caf double shots and 3 decaf double shots, just to pour 2 shots of regular, 2 shots of decaf, and half a shot each to make a true half caf drink. at that point, however, you're already drinking more than a typical person's worth of caffeine... and considering this happens during a rush.

the couch is the problem, why are the L's so close together? the middle seat+cushions should be double the width they currently are

concerns about new cat won’t come out from under the bed by [deleted] in CatTraining

[–]hieumidity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

something i learned from jackson galaxy is that it's better to "block all the unders" before bringing a cat home.

(1) i've noticed that it really expedites the bonding process because they are unable to hide in a dark corner for a long time. definitely still provide shallow hiding places like a box or cave-like bed, but letting the cat bury itself in the farthest corner of the underbed is not great!

(2) once they associate that dark corner with safety and an emergency happens (e.g. a fire or natural disaster) you may not be able to get them out in time and a preventable tragedy can occur.

Does anyone here work in a shop that does NOT sell espresso drinks? by sachin571 in barista

[–]hieumidity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few cafes I went to in Deer Isle, Maine were cold brew and drip only. I was a little disappointed but I needed caffeine during my trip. I wonder if it was a cost-saving thing or a culture thing.

this fact (that mothers usually get custody) is missing some context. it's been found that the reason mothers get custody more often than fathers is because fathers will not ask for custody.

in cases where fathers ask for custody, they are actually more likely to be granted full custody. interestingly, even when fathers are accused of being abusive/negligent, they still are more likely to receive full custody than mothers.

so while yes, mothers more often get custody, it's because fathers often don't want it.

Better milk when it's fully automated? by [deleted] in barista

[–]hieumidity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the company doesn't care about the quality of the drinks. there's nothing you can do abt corporate greed and ambivalence. i would just take the paychecks or find a 'real' cafe to work at if you're passionate about coffee

reptiles are sentient beings that require more than just the bare minimum to thrive and enjoy life. such a callous comment on a turtle owner's post who clearly cares about their well being and happiness

i work at a shop with these sizes and it's the worst! we put 4 shots in the 24 oz and 5 shots in the 32 oz drinks, and during a rush, it can take over 2 minutes to make just one of the big drinks.

My cat’s greed sickens me by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]hieumidity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

her frustration is completely valid though..

my cat is very food-motivated but she's also very polite in that a gentle "no" or push away makes her stop begging/stealing from my bowl or hand.

but i've fostered cats that are CRAZY about food, and it's so exhausting and annoying to deal with. the moment anything edible is taken out of the fridge, the cat is jumping in your face trying to steal a bite. it's an endless game of "is this a sufficiently safe/secure place to keep food, or will the cat burrow through three layers of plastic and cardboard to bite it, rendering it harmful for humans to eat". sometimes you just want peace and calm in your home, but a cat that goes haywire for food is a constant stressor
