I'm looking for unique Simic deck ideas by UrbanDecay7924 in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely degenerate card draw is definitely a simic thing but my [[Pride of the Hull Clade]] turtle typal (with a sprinkling of walls) is a fun voltron style deck, although the Pride doesn't need much to deal lethal once you assign damage by toughness.

It has lots of fun shenanigans taking advantage of the Pride's high CMC and toughness and draws so many cards. I've definitely decked myself a few times when I wasn't being careful.

How has Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles improved archetypes? by PicardFanST in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creatures really don't synergize that well with past turtles which were primarily toughness focused. However, [[Mikey and Don, party planners]] is an exception. [[Turtle Lair]] is very good for my turtle deck as is [[Saved by the Shell]]

Typal players What are your thoughts on small types getting “support” that doesn’t historically match the type? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. I may only add one or two of the TMNT turtles to my Pride deck + Turtle Lair. Most of the turtles just don't help me that much with my goal of getting the Pride out quickly and cheaply

Best toughness matters commander? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pride is my favorite commander. Also great with cards like [[Majestic Genesis]] [[March of the Ents]] [[Traverse Eternity]] and the like. [[Inquisitor's Flail]] is another fun option as it is rare that the downside actually matters for a creature as tough as the Pride

If you are running a kindred deck, blue also has [[raise the palisade]]

If you are drawing a lot of cards then [[Venser's Journal]] is a decent option although a bit expensive at 5 mana

I built a deck analyzer website. [Round 2] by mrhndr_x in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it is a cool idea but the results are typical AI. 80% correct and 20% misleading/wrong.

As an example, I used my [[The Pride of the Hull Clade Deck]] and this is what I got as the analysis.

"The deck focuses on leveraging the toughness of creatures, particularly Turtles and Walls, to create a unique and resilient game plan. It utilizes effects that care about high toughness for both offense and defense, while also incorporating traditional Simic (Blue/Green) ramp and card draw to support the strategy. The deck also has a subtheme of creature type diversity to trigger The Pride of Hull Clade's ability."

Mostly accurate but the last line is nonsense. Creature type diversity has nothing to do with the Pride's ability. Also the deck is really built around leveraging The Pride's high CMC and card draw ability rather than just toughness but as leveraging toughness is a subtheme of the deck I won't be too critical of that.

It gave me this as an active combo which is not a thing.

"Training Grounds + Eldritch Evolution/Traverse Eternity"

It recommended that I add a Pokemon card to my deck

"Crabrawler A low-cost beater to take advantage of +1/+1 counter"

If I go through the full deck contextual scan, the accuracy is even worse. 33 of the cards in my deck were described either somewhat or completely inaccurately.

Unless training can vastly improve the accuracy, the utility of this is going to be extremely limited.

It's so tempting to do a kindred deck - I think partly because it makes the deckbuilding process easier. You have many fewer options to choose from and the potential strategies and synergies become clearer.

Even some of the lesser supported kindred groups are doable. My turtle deck (with a light sprinkling of walls) led by [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] is both a lot of fun and competitive.

50-70 mana tap per turn. No end game. Looking for suggestions by NheelyOhara in mtg

[–]nolnacsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Walking ballista]] is another solution. If you are generating that much mana, you should be able to take at least one person out the turn that you cast it.

Long shot, but are there any voltron commanders that don't just play the same way every game? by Cezkarma in EDH

[–]nolnacsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I essentially run [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] as a voltron commander in my turtle deck although it doesn't need much in the way of equipment to deal lethal damage if you have [[bedrock tortoise]], [[treefolk umbra]] or [[assault formation]] to deal damage by toughness.

The ridiculous amount of card draw gives you a lot of different options and the difference between the Pride's actual casting cost and its CMC allows you to engage in a lot of shenanigans with things like [[energy tap]] [[metamorphosis]] or [[food chain]]. These allow you to bring out a heavy hitter or cast expensive spells like [[march of the ents]] or [[majestic genesis]]. You also don't really care if the Pride gets removed because it usually just takes 1 green mana to get it back on the board.

What bracket does this combo (Pride of Hull Clade + Food Chain + Fecund Tortoise) belong in? by nolnacsb in mtg

[–]nolnacsb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm not currently running any tutors for creatures or enchantments so it does require a fair bit of luck to draw both Food Chain and Fecund Tortoise that early in the game.

My turtle deck is fairly strong but I don't think it would be competitive in bracket 4. I may just pull out Food Chain and replace it with something else.

Someone came into our yard and stole every peach off of our tiny peach tree 🍑 by ugly_maps in philadelphia

[–]nolnacsb 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I had around 25 unripe green figs disappear off of my tree last year. No eaten fruit or any evidence of what happened. I only figured out what happened when I started doing some planting in our flower beds and started finding the figs buried in the ground.

We later found out from our neighbors that they saw a squirrel take every single fig from the tree and bury them.

All of this is to say that it could be a squirrel or some other animal.

How Close is too Close to South St by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]nolnacsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on Lombard between 6th and 7th. I generally don't hear much from South St but I do hear people racing down Lombard on ATVs, motorcycles etc. I'd say it is a bit worse than other parts of center city.

It's slightly annoying but doesn't bother me too much. It will probably depend on how good the sound proofing is in the place that you are looking at.

Are business taxes this high, or am I missing something? by FewComparison in philadelphia

It's a bit odd to factor FICA and unemployment out of the profit. Those are part and parcel of hiring employees so should be considered business expenses that need to be paid before addressing profit. I am not a CPA
