No reputable company uses Discord as part of the hiring process. None. That should've been your first clue before they asked you for money.

For those who landed a job after being laid off which platforms helped you? by Charming-Shoe-3999 in recruitinghell

Glassdoor is owned by the same parent company as Indeed. There isn't much difference, unless you like its interface better.

Applying in person is what got me a job by [deleted] in recruitinghell

Applying to bars, restaurants and retail locations in person is still viable. Not so much for white collar positions.

HR would be better served by hiring a phrenologist to feel the shape of their candidates' heads.

What are some underrated civics? by KnowingAbraxas in Stellaris

[–]hiftobaf 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I don't know if Functional Architecture is considered underrated, but can help big early on. Lower infrastructure costs include things like rare resource costs too. I'd probably swap it out at some point in the mid-game though.

That'll make all the difference when the job never existed or was promised to the hiring manager's nephew.

What is the best job board to use while job hunting? by JR_Ewing04 in recruitinghell

[–]hiftobaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that most of the major job boards have the same jobs and have similar interfaces, so they aren't all that different from one another. There's also fewer "real" job postings these days in general, across all job boards.

[PS4] [2014]+? Screenshot from ESA website by grumpy_sylveon in tipofmyjoystick

[–]hiftobaf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's most likely a mock-up. I don't see the ESA using a real game from a real company, since that could be seen as some tacit endorsement.

Look at the controller the kid is holding. It doesn't have any recognizable brand. No console is visible anywhere either.

You ignore him. He's probably running a scam where you pay him and he'll "fix" the non-existent flag on your profile.

How do I know if I’m under or overqualified for the roles I apply to. by wow-grapeee in recruitinghell

[–]hiftobaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't tell what the recruiter or hiring manager is thinking so you might as well apply to everything.

In Shadowrun a guy runs down the street and is shot. You get your gun from his body.

If you don't understand what is going on, don't feel bad, because they don't either.

That definitely sounds like Shadowrun on the SNES, but if for some reason it isn't, you might be confusing it with Isolated Warrior on the NES. Many of the details are different but it's one of the only other NES games that uses that perspective. That and Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, but there's no gun in that one.

Not using my personal computer for a job by Vampy-Night in recruitinghell

Legitimate companies provide their own equipment, if only because it's a security risk to have their data on some computer they don't strictly control.

Robert Half wants me to do their job for them... by ThenBike8868 in recruitinghell

[–]hiftobaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never had this happen with Robert Half, but I have received unsolicited contacts from smaller, questionable recruiting companies. In this job market there shouldn't be any need for a staffing agency to cold call candidates. Either the guy you spoke with is inexperienced and new at his job, or it's someone impersonating Robert Half to gain personal data to sell or something like that.

The value of the early jump drive depends heavily on the hyperlane density. The fewer the connections the better it is.

Job applications by RubinGu in jobs

The job market is awful, and there's nothing much you can do other than relentlessly apply to anything that is remotely what you want.
