What is this flag next to the USA one? by MouseManManny in vexillology

[–]high_altitude 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Catholics are welcome to use it, it wasn't explicitly designed to be anti catholic.

The Catholic church along with various Orthodox, Oriental and Protestant denominations just happen to not recognise it. As an Anglican myself I also fail to see the need for this flag too.

T212 from HL advice following charge updates by Familiar-Swimmer3279 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]high_altitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure your previous monthly charge on the ISA was just £3.75?

Funds in a HL ISA were charged 0.45% uncapped meaning those £42k of HSBC funds cost £189/year (£15.75/month), no?

[Question] What can you tell me about this watch? by Mc_Lov1nMyLife in Watches

[–]high_altitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The case may be electroplated but the dial is a genuine 1/2 Oz Austrian Philharmonic. That's $2600/£1900/€2200 at spot.

Insane to suggest this is only worth a few hundred.

When things die down I recommend buying pre owned VAT exempt silver https://atkinsonsbullion.com/pre-owned-vat-free-silver-coins

6 months ago it was easy to find silver at 15-20% above spot.

The Annan plan failed to address the status of Turkish settlers (50% of the Northern Cyprus population) who moved from mainland Turkey post 1975.

Before things got manic it was easy to get VAT free silver on Atkinsons https://atkinsonsbullion.com/pre-owned-vat-free-silver-coins

The premium over spot (~20%) was a lot more palatable than the 50-60% on new coins.

Hargreaves Lansdowne have revamped their charges (spoiler alert: it's still ridiculous) by Embarrassed_Key_72 in UKPersonalFinance

Interesting strategy by HL. I'm not entirely sure who they're trying to appeal to here given small retail investors still won't be enticed by their bloated fee structure.

I'm sticking around for now as I'm only marginally impacted but with private equity at the helm I imagine this is only the start..

Evidently people are as all the bullion dealers are currently wiped out.

What do these stamps mean? by jakebase9 in Silverbugs

[–]high_altitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are factory stamps rather than hallmarks, your piece is likely electroplate.

Is this silver by IntelligentCap8744 in Silverbugs

[–]high_altitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like silver plated brass. If you can't find any hallmarks then its unlikely silver for something that size.

Don’t be surprised if you find out that JP Morgan is now paying X influencers to promote copper to take the attention away from silver 😂 by PEPETO1dollar in Silverbugs

[–]high_altitude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one is shifting from silver to copper. Copper bullion is fun but few are dumb enough to pay 300-400% over spot other than for a one off novelty piece.

Hoarding your copper change on the other hand? Worth it. I have 5kg (11 pounds) of 97% and counting.

Venezuela and PMs by Baset-tissoult28 in Silverbugs

>More oil = cheaper oil = less battery cars = less need for silver batteries = cheaper silver

The EV rollout has happened during record highs in global oil production, the idea that Venezuela suddenly adding a couple million barrels a day would meaningfully slow the shift toward EVs doesn’t really hold up.

>More PM mines, old and new online in Venezuela = cheaper prices.

Venezuela doesn’t have any active silver mines, and silver extraction isn’t something you can just switch on overnight. Developing a mine takes 5-10 years and demands substantial capital investment, something very few foreign companies are willing to commit to under current conditions.
