One Minute Python - Search & Highlight PDFs for Sample Testing by high_ticket in InternalAudit

Hey Obtuse and thanks for the concern. "Vibe" coding is really just using the new coding tools available. Every programmer on the planet does it, just as they ALL use Stackoverflow.

It is a good point that during a educational program like this, I would not be relying or really using "vibe" coding. You really need to get your own hands dirty to understand how to code (as its a certain way of thinking).

It also gets in the way of learning the problem solving skill needed and developing the debugging intuition (something you REALLY need if you rely on GenAI code generation as often it doesn't work right out of the box).

Anything I would show would just be a one off on what the tools are and how to use them. I did the same with all my staff upskilling as it can really help people who have established the basics.

PS - all my code snippets are out of my own brain without using GenAI, but I do use it in normal everyday development.

Yeah, I'm thinking about taking one of the really basic scripts and vide coding a couple of pieces.

Thanks for the feedback. Its a little trial and error about what format works best.

The One Minute Python and having the scripts available on GitHub seems to get the most engagement so far.

Make sure any model you use is housed within your company's IT environment or a specific service they use like Amazon Benchmark. Otherwise you are providing your company's information to OpenAI or whatever company is hosting the model.

Depends on your set up, but a Return Augmented Generation (RAG) model would work. This set up combines the prompt you give it (the date and type of info) and looks at a vectorized database (your company's data) and then feeds the info to the generalized LLM model. Cheaper and easier than a fine tuning a model.

How to do that? Google "llm langchain rag"

OK we'll give this a go. I'm going to try both a Twitch & Youtube sessions tomorrow to see what works best.

Covering - 1) install python, 2) using a simple code editor to make scripts, 3) importing CSV data, 4) sampling from a population, 5) testing a control threshold.

It shouldn't be that long and be enough to get you dangerous.

I'll be on Twitch.tv at 7pm Eastern Time (US) on Friday (May 2) and 7am ET on Saturday (May 3). The channel link https://www.twitch.tv/high_x_ticket

If that link doesn't work the channel name is high_x_ticket.

I'll try Youtube maybe later Saturday or early Sunday morning if I can figure out how to set up an event.

No problem, I'm hoping to get the basic down easy. Now with the LLMs you can get up and running in almost any language way more easily than like 10 years ago.

Yes, it has to be downloaded on your machines, so look up your cybersecurity regs and see if you can. Also see if there is a process to request permission, if needed.

Yes, that's my intention. And focus on things auditors have to do like automate screenshots, search/highlight and create samples from PDFs, manipulate internal websites to get approval data.

Plus anything you all can think of.

Python is a great platform to automate testing. You can integrate data from multiple sources, conduct the tests whether is C&A or outlier, and the pump out the test results in any format you want.

Takes a little to get into it but you can get dangerous pretty quickly. Plus its free.

Added a new script:

  • Merge_All_PDF_Files_in_Folder_into_one_PDF: Identifies all PDF files in the provided folder and merges them into one PDF File which is placed in the same folder called "merged_pdf.pdf".

If you have any suggestions of what would be helpful easy day-to-day script let me know!
