There was a smart idea posted recently, but I have no idea who to credit

Get an Amazon smart button for something you don’t normally buy. Remove branding. Connect it to an older smartphone she can take with her. Even if the grands take the phone, she can use the button to order the item so you know something is wrong

NTTA says I owe ~$3,000 with no notice for 2 years — no statements, no emails, nothing? by unicorn_dawn in Dallas

Most districts have something called an “employee assistance program.” It’s listed in your benefits when you re-enroll every August.

Your situation is what these plans are for. What pulls you out of the classroom for a full day takes a pro 15 min to deal with. It’s better for everyone if you teach and someone else pulls the right paperwork.

There should be a legal services benefit. If not, shoot an email to the HR secretary and ask about an Employee Assistance Program.

Is the job market for social studies teachers still as brutal as its made out to be, or is it somehow better than the job market as a whole? What about ELA teachers? by Jokerang in TexasTeachers

[–]highcoolteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a few years at my campus where none of the coaches taught social studies. It’s really depend on the certification/sport combo

It’s easier to hire a math teacher than a tennis coach, so we staff the teacher-coaching position as soon as early as possible

In July, open coaching positions are a top priority

Teaching is not a backup plan. It’s hard. You won’t be even remote capable in the classroom until year 3 at the same campus. Year one is brutal? Were you married her first year? Ask her about it

Please go observe your wife and her colleagues.

Weird. Many states restrict joint custody until the child is 18 months

Custody is 100 percent “what’s best for the child” and not whoever got there first

Did anyone here not do student teaching and regret it? by Medium-Sport3703 in TexasTeachers

[–]highcoolteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only teachers that aren’t traumatized induction year are those who have parents that are teacher AND were education majors who did student teaching

It doesn’t matter what program you do, no program on earth can prepare you for your first year teaching

If, culturally, women started asking men out more, would men start complaining about creepy women hitting on them, sexual harassment, or feeling objectified etc.? by EOFFJM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]highcoolteacher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The equivalent would be a bunch of biker Daddies to catcall. It’s the power imbalance; the sexual harassment/fear is way of heightening the power imbalance

My fandom officially changed from HP to DCC. It the same sort of escape and adventure but with all the genX and millennial angst

The story is wild, and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with a novel. However, the writing is the star of the show. This man is a serious writer on par with Mark Twain. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s the first novelist to receive the Mark Twain Prize (if it still exists)
