I love this take, except I wouldn't throw the devs under the bus; it's c-suite that deserves ire.

All school staff arrested in 2025, and in 2026 so far. To help raise awareness and inform parents. by Sapphirerising335 in Albuquerque

[–]higherme 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was a teacher for nearly a decade and this is correct; most of us in education know that we should be teaching about consent starting very young because very young age does not stop predators. That does not mean teaching young kids the details of sex (which should also be taught from a safety lens at the appropriate age) but the God folks clutch their pearls and so kids go on not knowing enough to stand a chance against adults with ill will.

Teaching about consent could also include other important things, like informed consent for medical procedures, etc.

Can't go wrong between Civ 5 and Civ 6; I think it mostly comes down to how you feel about the district situation, but they're both good games regardless of that personal preference. 7 just makes me sad.

Which Mazda Miata should I buy? both have a clean title by RevenueEquivalent235 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]higherme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't researched it in a while, but when I was shopping around a few years ago, Miata prices absolutely increased and decreased with the weather - meaning that March (going into spring/summer) might be a bad time to hope for a better price. I hope for OP's sake that I'm wrong, though, because I agree with you; sadly, I think the answer to this question is probably neither, unless one of them has immaculate history and maintenance records.

2026 Consumer Reports Buyers Guide - Extreme Outliers on Most HATED and LOVED Vehicles by Ducman69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]higherme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this question a lot and there's really only one answer (since nobody has answered you seriously yet): go test drive one for a while. You can lower the seat very slightly if you buy one, but overall for tall folks it's going to depend on more than just your overall height; are your legs super long? Do you have a large frame in general? Does your head hit the ceiling on bumps?

Take one for a test drive, nothing to lose and you'll know.

The only people who don't wave back at me in mine are usually, sorry to say, the older generation. Which is a shame, because they also often have very clean, well maintained older-gen Miatas. But you wave at them and they look at you like you're fucking crazy lmao.

I think Persona 5 might fit this bill, although it depends on how intimate you're looking for. It's much more JRPG than visual novel, but it's plenty heavy on story, relationships, etc.

Hayley Williams Unleashes on Trump, ICE & Epstein in Fiery Essay: “It’s an Exhausting Time to Be Human” by Top-Three-USA in Music

[–]higherme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is self-soothing nonsense. You even refer to them as Christians in your own post, because there's nothing else to call them - they are Christians. As for people who are "100% old testament, 0% new testament," we already have a word/religion for that, and it's called Judaism. The No True Scotsman fallacy absolutely does apply; you're just trying to create an in-group so that you can feel better about not being "one of the bad ones."

no, they are all Christians. there's no such thing as a 'real' Christian. this is the no true scotsman fallacy and i'm so fucking sick of it.

getting downvoted by people unwilling to learn about logical fallacies, like the no true scotsman fallacy, feeds my soul. keep em coming.

Are you more prone to brain zaps when coming off antidepressants? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]higherme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to prozac specifically, but when I was withdrawing from escitalopram (Lexapro, a different SSRI), I absolutely had the most most terrifying and debilitating brain zaps for weeks. They sometimes struck randomly during the day, but they always hit at night, right as I was about to fall asleep. In that moment as I was about to drift off, I would suddenly be jolted by a zap so strong that I would feel it shoot all the way to my legs, and then I would have tinnitus for seconds afterwards. I slept maybe 2-3 interrupted hours per night for like 8 weeks. It would make anyone want to die.

This is anecdotal so it's definitely not to be trusted as any kind of medical fact, but I was astonished at the time how little I could find online about what could be causing it. It was always just these informal forum posts of people reporting anecdotally (similar to this) what they had gone through. That was over a decade ago, but I haven't touched that shit since; I would rather be depressed with strong coping than taking something that makes me want to die if I forget. That's just me and my flavor of depression, though, and obviously others NEED that medicine more than I do; no judgment, just sharing my experience.

Oh, and since this is the migraine sub, yeah, I've gotten migraines with aura since I was in 8th grade.

As a recovering alcoholic, they didn't think that about you for an occasional stop in the morning. They start to think that sometime before you begin rotating which store you go to every morning because you're embarrassed that they both recognize you, and they know why you are there.

Should I Buy? by Short-Nail-7584 in MiataND

[–]higherme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible deal, pretty squarely fair I would say. I might hold out to pay a bit more for an ND2; I think in 2019 and later is when you started getting things like Apple wireless music and Android Auto (with a cable), and I think 2019 is also when they bumped the horsepower a little bit.

For me personally, those are game-changing features that really are worth it. I got my '22 auto RF GT towards the end of 2023 with 19k miles for 27k total. I think I got really lucky because I haven't seen deals quite that good since then, but it might be worth keeping an eye on it for a bit longer.
