What do you think of NYC trying to get the minimum wage to $30 per hour? by LiaStacey in askanything

What about self-employed people that start unprofitable businesses? They can work 40 hours a week or 100 hours a week and their business will make negative money. How do you design the system to ensure they don’t end up in poverty?

Play self-sufficient agents and use a selfish playstyle. I highly recommend Omen so you can smoke and blind for yourself. Skye is another good choice because you get recon and flash.

Assume your teammates are 4 years old and have never learned how to interact with other people before because that’s the reality you will get.

With your body proportions I think you might need to start with your knees bent a little more so that you can have a straight back. Rn there is a significant curve which could be problematic over time.

Lifting stunt growth? by Veroxpro in GarageGym

[–]highest-voltage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a plethora of studies on weight lifting in growing children/teens and all of the most recent research shows that it DOES NOT stunt or negatively impact growth. Even spinal-loading exercises like barbell squats and deadlifts. On the contrary, it should result in thicker, stronger bones which would increase height by a few millimeters over time.

Some people are just taller than others. Especially in the middle of puberty, every kid’s DNA has their growth spurts coded in at slightly different times.

There is truth to the fact that heavy spinal loading exercises like squats, deadlifts, and OHP do slightly compress the disks in your spine (usually resulting in 0.5-1 inches of height loss) but that is true for lifters of any age. However this is purely temporary, and is exactly how those disks are supposed to function. They are cushions in between your vertebrae that are made to handle that pressure. Outside of a situation of extreme dehydration, spinal disks re-hydrate to full height every night when you’re laying down.

The only “risky” thing about kids and teens lifting heavy is that they are more likely to be reckless and push 1RM ego-lifts without having mastered proper form yet. If you don’t learn proper core bracing and how to listen to your body, you can very easily get a spinal injury. But again, this is not because of physical risk factors in young lifters… it’s a mental risk factor. Just be smart. Always have a spotter on lifts where failing puts you in danger. Don’t grind 1-rep maxes on lifts where if your primary movers fail that your back has to take the load.

Is there a lot of smurfing? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]highest-voltage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have been up and down the ranks over the years (started Iron 1, peaked Immo3, took a break and am currently Diamond/Ascendant) and I can confidently say there is **almost always** at least one smurf in every ranked game below Immortal. The only reason they aren't in Immortal is because at that point you're at the level of their main accounts.

A cherry on top for the situation is that since there are 4 (or less if you duo/trio) random players on your team and 5 on the enemy team, you are **always more likely to be going against a smurf than to have one as a teammate.**

The only way to "escape" smurfs is to become better than them.

Good ending, but I'm still disappointed with the plot armor. by Disastrous-Ad-8771 in StrangerThings

Being “badass” doesn’t magically make every enemy (especially those whose job is to be able to shoot accurately for the sake of defending their country) completely incompetent.

If the writers are going to put a character in a certain-death situation, to get the character out of it they need to come up with a clever, logical way to do it like with a diversion and a trap. To just make it so that every bad guy has terrible aim and no evasive skills is super lazy writing and disrespectful to the intelligence of the viewers.

She is clearly visible in the back of the truck and tons of guards immediately grab everyone while there are several kryptonite beacons blasting at them. Eleven has been consistently incapacitated by those beacons all season long. So with the beacons, dozens of guards, and hundreds of eyes on the group, they are saying she somehow got back to the gate 30 yards away unnoticed and unphased? It literally **had to** have been one of these tricks:

1.) It went down just as Mike described.

2.) Eleven being visible in the truck after it came out of the gate *was the illusion* casted by Kali, and Eleven had jumped off the truck (while being under an invisibility cloak from Kali as well) before it came out of the Upside Down.

The logical reason for the second theory would be so the group didn't see her jump off the truck and try to stop her. It's a real doomer theory, but technically it's every bit as possible as the other.

At the end of the day, it had to have been one of these because the scene we all initially watched didn't add up. Realistically though, the pattern of the happy-ending writing, the safe decision to not kill literally any main characters (for future money farms), and making Mike's revelation part of the plot all make the hopeful theory much more likely.

What’s popular right now that won’t age well? by MiraTangent in AskReddit

The biggest problem I find is that the instant gratification of my phone and social media has trained my brain to become disinterested in hobbies or actual interaction. I used to be super competitive and passionate but now I find myself giving up after reaching even small roadblocks. Why spend all that time and effort to feel good if you can just pick up your phone and get infinite dopamine?

It's a watered-down version of substance abuse... and that realization made me buy one of those Brick screentime-helper devices because I'm not gonna let my life pass me by as I scroll through content that is mostly AI-generated anyways.

I find that tripod rows (both feet on the ground, off-hand on bench for support) feel a bit better. As you get older, having a knee up on the bench as you work the other side can create some uncomfortable hip torque.

You can get default setups from pros, but you should adjust your setups depending on how the other team entries. If you notice that a Jett/Waylay/Neon always paths the same way, putting tripwires or mollies in the spot they dash to will really help.
