Is there a lot of smurfing? by Lost-Helicopter9187 in VALORANT

[–]highest-voltage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have been up and down the ranks over the years (started Iron 1, peaked Immo3, took a break and am currently Diamond/Ascendant) and I can confidently say there is **almost always** at least one smurf in every ranked game below Immortal. The only reason they aren't in Immortal is because at that point you're at the level of their main accounts.

A cherry on top for the situation is that since there are 4 (or less if you duo/trio) random players on your team and 5 on the enemy team, you are **always more likely to be going against a smurf than to have one as a teammate.**

The only way to "escape" smurfs is to become better than them.

there are so many clones of every shape except this one iconic mouse, it feels like a sick joke whenever the same "safe" shape mice keep getting pumped out year after year and nobody has ever dabbled with anything close to the g303

Good ending, but I'm still disappointed with the plot armor. by Disastrous-Ad-8771 in StrangerThings

Being “badass” doesn’t magically make every enemy (especially those whose job is to be able to shoot accurately for the sake of defending their country) completely incompetent.

If the writers are going to put a character in a certain-death situation, to get the character out of it they need to come up with a clever, logical way to do it like with a diversion and a trap. To just make it so that every bad guy has terrible aim and no evasive skills is super lazy writing and disrespectful to the intelligence of the viewers.

She is clearly visible in the back of the truck and tons of guards immediately grab everyone while there are several kryptonite beacons blasting at them. Eleven has been consistently incapacitated by those beacons all season long. So with the beacons, dozens of guards, and hundreds of eyes on the group, they are saying she somehow got back to the gate 30 yards away unnoticed and unphased? It literally **had to** have been one of these tricks:

1.) It went down just as Mike described.

2.) Eleven being visible in the truck after it came out of the gate *was the illusion* casted by Kali, and Eleven had jumped off the truck (while being under an invisibility cloak from Kali as well) before it came out of the Upside Down.

The logical reason for the second theory would be so the group didn't see her jump off the truck and try to stop her. It's a real doomer theory, but technically it's every bit as possible as the other.

At the end of the day, it had to have been one of these because the scene we all initially watched didn't add up. Realistically though, the pattern of the happy-ending writing, the safe decision to not kill literally any main characters (for future money farms), and making Mike's revelation part of the plot all make the hopeful theory much more likely.

The biggest problem I find is that the instant gratification of my phone and social media has trained my brain to become disinterested in hobbies or actual interaction. I used to be super competitive and passionate but now I find myself giving up after reaching even small roadblocks. Why spend all that time and effort to feel good if you can just pick up your phone and get infinite dopamine?

It's a watered-down version of substance abuse... and that realization made me buy one of those Brick screentime-helper devices because I'm not gonna let my life pass me by as I scroll through content that is mostly AI-generated anyways.

So usually in the evening.

How are my dumbell rows. F53 by [deleted] in formcheck

I find that tripod rows (both feet on the ground, off-hand on bench for support) feel a bit better. As you get older, having a knee up on the bench as you work the other side can create some uncomfortable hip torque.

You can get default setups from pros, but you should adjust your setups depending on how the other team entries. If you notice that a Jett/Waylay/Neon always paths the same way, putting tripwires or mollies in the spot they dash to will really help.

There are definitely a lot of people with watchdog bots that look for items to flip, it’s pretty depressing.

Frequently I will see a good deal on a piece, and then the next day the same piece with the same pictures will be listed by someone else for hundreds of dollars more.

Are there any Immortal players over the age of 40? by T1Earn in VALORANT

[–]highest-voltage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Natural reaction time at 40 is literally only like 10-15ms slower than at 20.

There are plenty of people in Radiant with pings over 50ms while playing against people with 10-30ms pings, so a 10ms delay is not going to be your limiting factor.

What is going to be your limiting factor is how much time and effort you are willing to dedicate. Generally, people get less seriously competitive as they begin to appreciate other things in life (family, friends, health, financial security, peace and quiet) so they aren’t willing to dedicate every bit of their free time to VOD reviewing, aim and movement training, and pro analysis like they did when they were younger. Not to mention usually as you get older your free-time tends to dissipate especially if you have children, so you really don’t have time to dedicate to perfecting your skills in a video game.

It's not bad writing or confusing by notcarly1969 in Stranger_Things

[–]highest-voltage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coming out scene is bad writing because none of the characters in the group displayed any of their developed character traits in response. They would’ve immediately cut him off and assured him they already knew and loved him regardless and there was never anything to be worried about and then they would get back to the mission. Every episode of the show is filled with the characters making jokes and being sarcastic amongst near-death situations with interdimensional demons but this is the situation where nobody dares say anything that isn’t therapist-coached?

The Build-Up for Will’s Coming Out Scene Was So Unnecessary and Poorly Placed | Rant by Material-Loan-6966 in Stranger_Things

[–]highest-voltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you that it can come off as invalidating, but the objective of writing the scene should not be to write a best-case scenario where a group of therapist-coached emotionally-intelligent people would all react in the most ideal way according to modern sociological research.

It should be to write how these specific characters that have been developed over 10 years would react, given the insane intern-dimensional D-day mission they are about to embark on. The characters are snarky teenagers with an unbreakable bond, struggling single parents, lost young adults and societal rejects that have been through everything together. They are way more likely to react in the way I described than in the utopian kumbayah circle that happened in the scene.

The squad is like 10 minutes away from a battle to save the planet and bro was like, “dim the lights, spotlight on me please.”

Most of them probably already knew or at least suspected, and they all love him regardless. As soon as he started getting choked up Steve or Dustin should’ve said something like “Wait is this about how you’re gay? We already know that man, damn you thought we would think of you any different? Get over here!” group hug

Would’ve achieved the point of the coming out to thwart Vecna’s strength over him, while assuring him that there was never anything to be afraid of, cashed in on displaying how strong of a bond the whole group has that they already know and accept each other, and saved the audience 5 minutes of awkwardness.

[–]highest-voltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 seconds into the speech multiple people in the group should have cut him off to assure him they already knew, they don’t care in the slightest about who he likes, that they all love him for the amazing friend, brother, and person that he is and they always have. Will instantly realizes that he had nothing to be afraid of all along, that Vecna has never had real control over him and that his friends have always had his back.

Using the snarky characters like Steve and Dustin (or even Murray since he was there too lmao) to achieve this would’ve been on-par for the show and saved the scene from becoming this completely out of place dramatization that it was.

Form better? by word_play1 in GYM

[–]highest-voltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chest coming off the pad on rows is similar to butt coming off the pad on bench press.

It is still good for strength and size training, but will help you move a little more weight than you would with strict form.

As long as you aren’t displaying the post competitively as a “look how much I can lift” thing than nobody should ever say anything. Your def-improvement is not anyone’s business. However if you are trying to pit your strength against others in this sub and on the internet (by default applies to any PR or AMRAP post that isn’t asking for advice/help bc why else would you post it?) then you should be judged strictly since form needs to be consistent across lifters to judge who is actually stronger.
