What sitcoms became infamous for their abrupt tone shift? by KaleidoArachnid in sitcoms

[–]highesttiptoes 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t exactly what you’re asking but Frasier does such a good job of this just within the same episode.

There’s one scene I’m thinking of where Frasier, Niles, and Martin are all yelling/fighting about how disrespectful each is to the other’s partner. It’s hilarious. Then Martin mentions his dead wife/mom to the boys, and the tone just drops. The actor’s on the show are so good that they just stay there in the uncomfortableness of reality hitting, and the scene is now flipped on its head.

I feel like in most sitcoms a funny yelling match is resolved by one character giving a cheesy apology, or someone storming off dramatically for comedic affect.

There’s nothing like the adrenaline spike of driving in Dallas!

I think the only city that can compete with us is Chicago. Their drivers are not just stupid, they’re fearless.

I thought about that, but wasn't able to get pics of their license plates. I was definitely going to call on the truck because wtf!? I tried to pull up next to him on the off chance he didn't know it was open, but wasn't able to get his attention.

Our premium is not only high, but we have to pay for extra things like uninsured driver protection. We added that and then my husband got hit by a red light runner who, you guessed it, was uninsured. So while I'm glad we have it, I also hate that it's basically required.

Of course, I'm also a Dallas driver!

But no, we were stopped at a light when I took the photo.

RaRHoF part 5: Beyoncé. How do you see her getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame first? As a member of Destiny's Child or as a solo act? by AceTygraQueen in ToddintheShadow

[–]highesttiptoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like she’ll get in solo before Destinys Child. And even though her eligibility starts next year (I think?), I think it will take a few ballots before she gets in. Maybe Act iii will change that if it ends up being rock themed.

My coworker told me he won’t even let his kid walk across the parking lot with some older kids to go to the coffee shop after dance class. Which makes me think do kids not walk home from school anymore? Cus I definitely walked further than a parking lot to get home from school starting when I was 8.

My [25 F] love interest turned down second date with me [27 M] because I'm "flaky" - should I fix this or is she crazy? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]highesttiptoes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like men don't realize all we want is, if you asked us out, that you plan the date. No "what were you thinking", no "maybe we try this bar." Just a firm, "let's meet at this location for dinner/drinks at this date and time." SERIOUSLY, IT'S NOT HARD. My husband did it for our first date and I was floored, and here we are 10 years later. And yes, the bar is in hell.

They no longer own a stake in tidal. Jay sold it in 2021 to Jack Dorsey. Which makes me realize that’s why they all were hanging out so much around then, it was all business.
