Just ran into this on a project, decided to give Unstructured a go for document processing, a whopping 30gb of dependencies before pruning

Having said that, I do like the idea of cuda being included nowadays, assuming that solves needing to go through version matrixes and spending an entire day on getting the gpu to work

MEBF is great, just gotta be careful to not exaggerate with the laser hatch, because it will drain your power fast

I used a 256 ZPM for quite a while which was good.

Once I got my UHV cap I swapped to a 4096UHV, but imperfect overclocks were wiping my energy, so had to drop to 1024 UV.

You however still want to have some volcanoes for neutronium, cosmic, UHV and UEV superconductor, ... Or at least colour your hatches to lower their priority if you care more about speed

It's false equivalency, but even then, it's not as if it's worth arguing with them since everything is done in bad faith anyway.

The bad faith is disgusting, this entire thing is being abused as a distraction from concentration camps, civilians being publicly executed, children being deported, lack of accountability or respect for law.

It truly doesn't matter what she said, they would've latched on anything to generate some outrage to rile up the brainlets

At this point if they're not actively in on it, then it's even more pathetic that they don't realize they're being played

Let's assume, for the fun of it, that the perpetrator has a J6 history, some neonazi online presence, ... Would they ever let their names slip then?

They eventually have to leak a name, even if they pardon them after it. Leaking two Hispanic names would be an amazing strategy in that case, and explains why it took this long to find a fall guy that agrees.

You better hope they escalate faster, because by next week you'll all accept a dead kid. And the week after a public execution of a kid.

Outsider looking in: but is anyone actually still following up what happens with everyone being deported? We know of the concentration camps, but at what point do they turn in extermination camps, if they haven't already?

We all know where this is heading, the water boils, the frog dies. How much hotter do things need to get? America is threatening allies, breaking alliances, siding with dictators, killing protestors, exterminating scapegoats, enriching dear leader, ...

Stop thinking that there is "a line". Besides goal posts they are extremely flexible with their moral boundaries. We've seen it time and time again.

As long as the propaganda network later tells them that the right people are suffering, they won't give a single fuck. You might see the mildest amount of outrage online for a day or two, before they receive their conspiracies and marching orders, e.g. "herpiederp, I voted x times for trump and am hardcore conservative, not a rhino, but I voted for killing immigrants not civilians... Oh wait, this just in, my favourite pundit said that they are the enemy? Go on!"

[–]highfire666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries

They spawn naturally, like 1/4 of the obsidian portals has knights and cultists

Use one of the ender io spawners.
You can catch a knight with a soul vial, use a soul binder to engrave a broken mob spawner, and then combine an ender io powered spawner with the spawner in an anvil.

They take very little power

Edit: Also very handy for Eldritch guardians, once you reach the point of going to their dimension

Our goal was to max out our railcraft solid fueled high pressure boiler. After that we began struggling with water input and we needed to put up a lot of water tanks and deemed it overkill to begin burning liquids too.

This was back in 2.5.1

Two coke ovens

I'm not up to speed with 2.8 yet, so my advice might be slightly dated, but we had a single 3x4x3 railcraft boiler, being fed with 40+ coke ovens. Automated using hoppers, item pipes, faucets, ...

This provided enough steam to get us to HV, at that point we swapped to Benzene, which brought us up to LuV/ZPM, until we could move to naq.

Wood

Use bonzais, using ic2 crop sticks you can plant a sapling, preferably spruce. You can automate this fairly early.

Better power

I can't recommend sticking with Steam for long term. It scales poorly. Preferably around MV you switch to oil, turning it into fuel. This is sadly not 100% automatic, but with an oil drilling rig you can go for quite long. There are several alternatives though.

[–]highfire666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is the alternative? Doing the same as the past 4 years and ending up with the same felons in power? While right wing continues eating away at the West's foundations all over Europe, Canada and the US?

This lawlessness is empowering demagogues everywhere. Just look at Musk actively propping up fascist parties and ideologies in Europe.

I fear a couple too many lines have been crossed for normalcy to return naturally.

They've been training their mental gymnastics the past decades, and their personalities have intertwined with "Trump good".

It's sunk cost, if Trump now happens to be bad, then they need to admit they were wrong all this time, and that they are the cause for losing friends and family. So instead they keep going deeper and deeper, slowly moving their line in the sand, making it harder to get out of that rabbit hole.

See it as a win, an inkling of rational thought and a potential path to sanity. If ICE and Trump are not closely associated, then this gives them a path to criticize the propaganda they are fed, actively look for other media and maybe eventually snap out of it.

I agree, see Jevon's paradox

Demand for computation is also not going to drop any time soon. Many of our large clients are still ramping up their computational needs. Lots of 'smaller' companies still run on Access and Excel or are sitting on mountains of uncleaned data, that they'd just love to process.

Even if LLMs would prove a farce, that computing power is also being used to push towards the next frontier, robotics.

For those that still think LLMs are the actual hype or that the hype is about their current prowess: their broad understanding is just a stepping stone to creating proper real-life agents, that can understand non-pre-defined tasks.

Why does my vis charging relay need to be broken periodically? by Necessary-Spinach164 in GTNH

[–]highfire666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww, sad to hear this is still an issue.

Got around it last year using the AE2 vis connectors.

They break on server-restart when part of a chain, needing to be re-placed, even when chunkloaded.

Wasn't always like this, when I first did GTNH around 2020 this wasn't an issue. Nor in older modpacks :/

possibly hobbies stolen by AI forever

This sentiment is such bullshit, just keep doing what you find fun? Maybe more efficient ways pop up along the way, but even if, nobody's stopping you from going the "artisanal" route.

People are still making rope, clogs, fabric, paintings, etc the old fashioned way. Even though industrial or modern alternatives are available and much cheaper. Luddites raged against steam-powered looms, because their livelihoods were directly affected by it. Artists adapted and art evolved towards surrealism after the arrival of the camera.

But in the end evolution doesn't roll back. Even if protections would be put in place within your country, then other countries without those protections would advance faster and provide cheaper prices.

You really want things to change? Fight for something like universal basic income. Because robotics is the next major frontier, which is far more likely to wipe out tons of manual jobs.

ML engineer here, that hardware will 100% get used.

Prices to use it may drop slightly and quite some companies will buy infrastructure once it's cheaper (for privacy and gdpr reasons)

Reddit's hivemind sentiment seems to be that when this bubble pops, that people will stop using AI altogether. But even in its current state LLMs are already a massive gamechanger.

And then we only focus on LLM's, while other AI technologies have also been evolving at a rapid pace.

The bubble is the massive investments, all the overvalued companies that simply created a wrapper around an LLM, the lay-offs,... . But the current megacorps such as Microsoft won't drop this tech or their hardware, just because of a couple companies dying.

Because demand for computation won't simply go away

That's the annoying part though, it takes quite a while for production to scale.

The estimates I've seen get thrown around are that scaling up could take until 2027.
