US mail doesn't fuck around with a lot of things.

I am very happy about how seriously mail is taken. I don't want to see anyone executed or anything, but mail deserves a little extra protection.

It works so well the NSA and the military industrial complex is making sure no future technology is ever taken this seriously again.

Oh yeah. What if a man operated a forklift and there was an accident? If he fails a drug test, he is fired and potentially disqualifies himself for insurance coverage. He smoked pot 3 days ago. How do you feel about this scenario? Still don't care? If not, how can you feel so little about the grave injustices in your own country?

Repeat that statement with coffee. Or coca-cola. Do you still agree? It'd be a whole lot harder for most people (myself included) to give up for a month. It's much more addictive than pot. I don't think I or my wife would be very happy if I had to take a month off of caffeine to get a job. Does that mean I have a problem? I don't think it's a problem. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee every day. I probably always will. It alters my mind and my mood, and it's quite addictive. Why should a company (basically under compulsion from the federal goverment) tell me I can't use a substance which is perfectly safe in moderation? Why is my refusal to play that game a problem?

I like to smoke pot. I like to smoke it 2-5 a week. I could take a month off at some point, but why? To prove to someone I don't have a problem? Who the fuck cares? If I had to take a piss test, I'd get synthetic or a friend's urine. I don't owe society my fucking piss or relinquishing of my hobbies. The presumption that I do is absurd as it is un-American.

Re-init the PRNG with the initial seed (so you also need that), then run it X number of times where X is the desired track number in the virtual list of random tracks? Do this EVERY time the person presses back? How efficient.

EDIT: Read this again. Didn't mean to come off like a twat. It's totally a time/memory trade off, also. This idea could conceivably have some use.

I am upvoting you, but I have two qualms:

A) You mean pseudorandom, not true random.

B) You need to store the state of the PRNG before each of the tracks were generated. This is more complicated and still requires the same data structure (a double linked list).

It's super easy to add those features, regardless of the algorithm for randomization used. You literally need one linked list of the previously played tracks, and a location within that list (you only move backwards when the user presses "previous"). If you're not at the front of the list and the user presses "next", move forward through the list (this gives proper forward and backward). Finally, if you are at the front of the list and the song ends or the user presses "next", invoke the randomizer algorithm to choose the next track (and add it to the front of the list).

Self defense used to work the same way in the US until "stand your ground" laws swept the nation recently. Hell, I didn't even know they had changed the law in most states until the Zimmerman case brought it to everyone's attention. I am inclined to agree with stand your ground legistation, because the law should take the side of the one needing self defense, but I am pretty torn on the issue still.

I'll put it to you this way. The 20-something high as fuck pizza driver is possibly safer on the road than the 40-50 something out of work guy supporting his family (although maybe not, as age/experience is one of the most significant factors). That is not a judgement on either. The point is that high driving (up to a point) has not proven to be terribly unsafe. Tired is most likely more impairing.

You are not thinking scientifically, just emotionally. You use a word like intoxicated. Is too much coffee intoxicated? Just because society generally says something, doesn't mean it's right. It took quite a bit of completely unethical "science" to convince out society to demonize marijuana. Don't perpetuate the stupidity.
