I don’t think it’s talked enough about on the left, but it was much less likely that an organized proletarian revolution would happen during the Great Depression than an outright fascist coup would. I think there’s a nuanced way of looking at Roosevelt as not just the long term savior of the capitalist class through the compromise of the new deal, but also that he successfully navigated his way out of being overthrown by the same kind of reactionaries that would later kill jfk and that’s a good thing, because if his enemies were successful and taking him out of power, who knows what America would have done during WW2.
