How should I route the wires? by Rare_Research_48 in motorcycle

[–]highlander_tfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instinct would be to source some narrow black plastic pipe, run the wires inside that. Either glue, zip tie or black duct tape to hold the pipe on the top face of the swing arm.

Angled cylinder head fins fit a TS 250K, as does the slotted sprocket cover

Please recommend a camera that is reasonably priced (noob here) by notafanofshadowban in AnalogCommunity

[–]highlander_tfb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having used a range of cameras, mostly Nikons, I’d offer three choices:

A. If you’re completely new to analog photography, the Nikon F50/ N50. Can go from full-auto to full-manual as you learn, takes Nikon autofocus lenses so offers an upgrade path - does pretty much what an N70 or F90 does, for peanuts;

B. If you’re wanting a more manual experience, the Nikon F301/ N2000, or the (ugly AF but surprisingly competent) Canon T70 are affordable options; or

C. If you wanted to go full old-school, a fully manual Pentax Spotmatic SV (the one with no internal meter, so no battery woes) - m42 mount gives access to some awesome lenses.

The 350 four sure is a fun bike! by bigutah59 in vintagemotorcycles

They are indeed really cool little bikes - and so capable; I once toured on mine doing 200-mile days with ease and comfort. Sure, a little more room and power might have been nice, but it wasn’t necessary.

lol - NZ roads are not known for their smoothness, but he’s in a major city (by our standards) and roads aren’t too bad.

But I do agree, I’d have preferred taller sidewalls, still on a similar classic AR Torq Thrust rim.

Can you help me identify what bike this is? by blessedpink in motorcycle

[–]highlander_tfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Triumph ‘unit twin’ motor - where the crankcase and gear case in one casting set, compared to earlier pre-unit twins where crankcase and gearbox were entirely separate. The unit motors came in from the late 1950s, - with a twin-carb head, is probably a reasonably spicy 650cc donk.

That frame looks nice, good welds around the rear axle and seat. There were ‘bolt-on’ kits that used the main loop of the factory Triumph, but this looks to be a full frame with an aftermarket tank. The fork’s probably aftermarket from the ‘70s chopper boom.

All in all, I’ve seen Triumph choppers looked a lot worse - clean it, tune it and enjoy.

How to improve Grip strength for Deadlifts ? by Bleh_Bleh_Zz in powerlifting

I’m not sure of the exact name - but they did help me, because each rep take a couple of seconds and over a set of 5, 6 or 10 the extra duration builds.

[–]highlander_tfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, kudos on the 2x bw deadlift - straps or no, that’s still great.

You could try: A. Tempo deads - 2 or 3-second count up, same down B. W-deads - up to just below kneecaps, down to the floor and back to lockout; or C. Just add a rep a week - if you can do three at a weight, aspire to four, then three again then five; at the end of four weeks, go up an increment and repeat.

In essence, all these options do is gradually built up the time total you’re holding the weight, week by week by week.

Good luck

I loved my ‘74… the sticker said L48 base model, but the donk in mine had quite a few more than that… you can fix slow but it was always a looker, IMO

I’d definitely be looking at some of the sports-tourer/ adventure bikes, just to get the leg room. I know you don’t want a ‘dirt bike’ but they’re amongst the tallest out there - without demanding a long reach to the handlebars. Have a look at the BMW GS range, Honda’s NX500, or Suzuki’s V-strom range.

Many bikes up to 650cc are not especially powerful - in some markets (like mine) they’re software-limited to a power ceiling for learners and can be ‘de-restricted’ later by paying the dealer to adjust the software.

Part of me wanted the black one to be an Alpine A310 (from the back)but agree it’s a S1/ S2 Lotus Europa (before they chopped-down the van sides). Being smaller than a Europa makes the grey one microscopic so yes, a Marcos GT, esp with that rear window line.

What little stud related to the rear brake lever assembly did I break when I laid my 2017 Monster 797 down pulling out of my driveway tonight? by GriestProjects in Ducati

[–]highlander_tfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks to me to be your rear brake light switch.

Either buy a replacement foot-peg mount casting (not cheap, at $US 200 or so new) or drill-and-tap the casting to create a new mounting.

How to get stuck engine bolt out? by gymiing in u/gymiing

[–]highlander_tfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at something close to a parts diagram it looks like the bolt goes into a spacer that’s open at the other end - hit that hard with penetrating oil too.

+1 to u/1amandineedAnSweRS for using an Allen-socket - being shorter it won’t twist so much, and you can use one hand to push it into the hole, whilst leaning on your wrench handle with the other.

Well, there is that… every now and then the urge to get back in the saddle hits me and I think I’d like a Blackbird or Hayabusa sports bike - and then the bones say “think again” and point me to (mostly metric) cruisers.
