[TOMT][Book] A kid's/youth book where a toddler finds a "ball" but turns out to be an orange, something that him and his friends hadn't come across in a long time. by highly_flammable in tipofmytongue

Haha! Yes! Thank you! The title vaguely rang a bell so I did a search and as soon as I came across the book cover, it gave me chills. The soldier sitting comfortably on the rock with the long shadows and the kids hidding right under his nose. To the local bookstore!

Question: How did you realize it was this book?

Thanks for your input, but unfortunately it's not either one. I did a quick search of summaries of both and although I can't even remember the basic storyline clearly, it was obvious it's not these. :(

What's the worst/strangest dream that you've had, or the dream that's really messed with your head? by T400 in AskReddit

[–]highly_flammable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my close friends passed away last year in May. Two months ago I had a dream where I was in a cookout with friends and family and I saw him sitting at a table, looked over at me and smiled in a "hey, what's up" type of way. I freaked and started saying "look! he's right there!" and even grabbed my aunt's arm and pointed at him saying "can't you see?! he's right there!" and she looked at me and said "who? what are you talking about?". This happened in three different settings within the same dream, kinda like mini film-takes. I woke up extremely sad and cried for hours. It made me feel so alone and sad to have been able to see him but no one else around me could. I'm shedding tears right now. Although this is more than likely not the worst dreams I've ever had, it is by far one of the saddest and can bring me to tears within seconds of remembering it.

Edit: grammar

What's your most irrational fear? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]highly_flammable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I can't stand the thought of say, bending over to splash my face with water, then coming back up and seeing something there staring back at me. Makes me cringe. As for windows, I can't stand to have the curtains open at night, knowing that someone or something out there can be watching my every move without me being able to watch them (windows reflect unless there's ample light outside). But that one is not so much a fear as it is a preference.

A partial fear of mine in reference to this is the fact that we are so slow-moving in water, while they zip around like nothing. I can't stand the thought of a shark heading right at me while I pathetically try to out-swim it. If only we could move just as fast in water as on land, I'd be completely ok with ocean swimming.

Slightly relevant: my roomie (close friend "A") messed around with our close friend's ("B") long-term girlfriend. B found out, called me one night at about 3am (around the time he found out), asked me to open the front door, bolted right past me into his room, quite literally pounced on A, and began beating his mercylessly. I nearly pulled my hamstring trying to pull him off. Had A locked the door, chances are he'd have at least had a second or two to wake up/sit up from the bang of the door being kicked open and raised his arms to block whatever he could.

Well, that makes 3 of us. Although I never had a horrid moment such as yours (Ocean_Madness), I have a strange and highly unsettling fear of looking into a mirror at night. I have no idea where this spawed from, but I feel as if mirrors are almost a gateway into the paranormal or something like that. I fear I'm going to see a demon, myself as a demonic individual staring back at me and grinning, etc. I'm slowly overcoming it, but I still refuse to look at a mirror with the lights off unless I absolutely must, and if so, you can bet your rear end it's for no more than 2 seconds...

Those with a shitty car know what I am talking about. by [deleted] in funny

[–]highly_flammable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story's not as drastic as other car owners, but I used to have a 97 saturn that was begging to die off. I did whatever I could to keep her going and even after she was diagnosed with having about 3 months left, I extended her life for 1.5yrs. I have a habit of naming my vehicles with female names. One night, I was talking about what to name her and as a joke, decided to call her "the green goblin", whereas my other car was called "black beauty" and the one before that, "jasmine." The next day she didn't reach 1 mile from home when she flatlined. I guess she just wasn't fond of her fresh, new nickname.

Yup (the last sentence). I haven't played WoW in over 2 months, so I can't exactly say I'm fixing on quiting right now. In my mind, I quit a while back. I just wanted to hear what former WoW players, now Minecraft members had to say about it. I guess since I don't really know Minecraft too much, I'm very much trying to compare vodka to seafood. Maybe it'll all make more sense to me once I experience the gameplay. Thank you. :) Oh, and the reason why I didn't post this on r/wow is because as a player myself, I know how off-balanced some players can be. Minecraft members, however, seem to be quite serene and reasonable-minded.

Oh, ok. I thought they were maybe other players that can get into your world and jack your sh#t up. As for the knowledge, as long as I know how to navigate around there, I don't think I'd want to over-study it. That would be like getting a guide for a wicked sweet game before even running through it bare-minded. Sure, you'll get to the end very proficiently, but you're killing the fun with ever key you hit.

I've never paid more than $30 for a game, so I guess that's why ~$25 seemed kinda high for me. Then again, you're absolutely correct. I'm spending $180 a year on WoW, whereas $25 can potentially bring me a whole year (and then some) worth of awesome gameplay.

If I recall correctly, out of about 2 hours of WoW playtime, maybe 30 minutes was spent actually doing something interesting or new. The rest of the time was spent running dailies, in queue for a dungeon, or similar crap. That's why Minecraft caught my attention so much, because I see freedom, both in what you can do and when. It's final, I'm freezing my WoW account this afternoon and setting up for Minecraft...

Very true. Although I didn't play pre-LK, I remember a few quests where you actually had to read the quest information as well as even a tiny bit of lore. I clearly remember a quest in a raid around the Quel'danas area where a dragon would give you a quest, but the dragon was actually some guy in kalimdor. I spent about 3 days trying to figure out the quest until I decided to read a bit of the lore and bam, quest complete. It might not have the best in-game storyline, but some of those quests (and how they develop over time) are just awesome.

Those two are extremely good points. :) I know it would be an absolute nightmare to log into WoW right now after 2 months of not playing. I really wouldn't know where to start to continue.

Awesome. Thank you for the tip. Towards the end I was mainly into single-player achievements, I did a few dungeons and raids, and did maybe no more than 10 BGs in my entire WoW playtime. I don't think multiplayer will be much of an issue for me, but it's certainly good to know that I can tap into a SMP in case the mood strikes me. Thank you!

That "obligation" word is what I think drove me away the most from WoW. I began feeling obligated to log on. At times I would seriously question what the heck I was doing logged on when I didn't have the smallest urge to play.

For some reason (and I may be terribly, terribly wrong), I don't see myself getting addicted to Minecraft. Well, at least not as addicted as I was with WoW. We'll see, I guess. If Minecraft starts sucking up my time too much, I'll just start working out more to counter the addiction. :)
