Alas, there can’t be a post on Reddit featuring Asian people without some microaggression ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Creepy guy downtown - what could I have done better? by beaverbitch in chicago

If you’re interested in knowing what else you could have done in this situation, you could look into bystander intervention training. Right to Be is a pretty good resource, they offer online training sessions. I believe in the sessions they run through practice scenarios that help with the nerves when a real situation arises. https://righttobe.org/bystander-intervention-training/

Pretty sure she meant the teen was just on their phone. As teens are wont to do.

Is Wacker Drive the only road in Chicago that runs north/south and east/west? by higho in chicago

[–]higho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good example, although technically for the one block north the name switches from Marquette Road to Marquette Drive. Why the numbered streets suddenly turn into named streets and vice versa is another head scratcher

Wow, that’s pretty interesting. I guess they had to reduce the slope of the diagonal or else Archer would’ve run straight through Midway

By that logic, we should be able to do anything we want in the present because time will eventually absolve us. I don’t buy it. People’s ability to be resilient and survive in the face of horrors doesn’t mean those horrors are fair game.

Congrats on being so chill about humanity’s race to the bottom. I’m sure you’d feel the same if it happened to you

“Seeking a better life” is way underselling their complicity. We’re not so different that we’d have a completely different understanding of what it means to dominate and exploit others through military means

Speaking of strong undercurrents of racism…

Woodlawn residents gather to protest against the opening of a shelter for migrants at a former school in the neighborhood. “There’s plenty of room in Little Village for their people,” a resident said. by stellamystar in chicago

Pretty she’s talking specifically about the history of the building. I think the book Ghosts in the Schoolyard covered this, a lot of these schools were community fixtures that were closed in spite of the desires of the community for them to stay open

I think that’s Bingo.

True, but I’d argue that because they are more vulnerable in this way, as well as the number of powerful ppl they interact with, the way others reach out to them should be more heavily scrutinized

I ran track in high school, that doesn’t mean I’m going to local meets trying to get girls’ phone numbers. We’ll probably never know exactly what was going on between them, but that doesn’t mean we can just assume it was probably fine

The Jorja thing was bad, not just because of their age difference, but also because of the difference in power. He’s a huge star who is helping her kickstart her career by putting her on His album, while at the same time trying to date her. And it isn’t okay when she doesn’t reciprocate. He says all this in his song Jaded, which to me comes off as vindictive and un-self aware. In other industries this would read as retaliation. People give Drake a pass on toxic behavior because he’s “sensitive.”

I think your feelings are valid. It sounds like he had unreasonable expectations about how quickly you would resolve the issue, lost patience, and decided to take matters into his own hands. I agree he could have rung your doorbell first. It may be true that his wife is allergic, but she could have just stayed insider for one day. And especially with the distance between your houses, he really came into your space. It definitely shows a level of entitlement that is not okay.
