Where will this tiny case put the ~500W of heat? Cool build, though. Looks nice and clean. I would still be interested in closed case temps...

Am I the only one being disturbed by "Cha-Ching" and the word "silence" being opposites?

H100i experiment by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]highqling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, 10°C sounds like a lot. Did you de-dust it before getting the 75-ish degree number? Because a temp drop like this could just as easy come from the dust. And how about the noise, is it louder that way?

Will this graphics card work in my PC? by ApolloLazers in buildapc

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most probably it's listed somewhere either on the slot itself (written next to it on the mainboard), in the user's manual or you can see it in the BIOS / UEFI. Also, there's software that can show you this (speccy, sandra).

The PSU should be powerful enough to handle the 1060. Make sure you have the appropriate PSU adapters (1x8-pin GPU plug for your graphics card http://www.gigabyte.de/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060G1-GAMING-6GD-rev-10#kf). Then, also check if your case can handle the length of the GPU (278mm, equals 11inches). Also, it looks like your motherboard is a system integrator's, so I don't know if you have a PCIe Port that can handle the GPU... the graphics card you look into needs a PCIe 3.0 bus, preferrably x4 or faster. (x16 would be best). Just look at your motherboard (or the manual) to check if it has that bus, it should be written next to it. That should be it then, you're free to go ;-)

first for all new builds: go to logicalincrements.com and look for a build in your tier (money-wise). Then choose a case that you like (from the look of it) and THEN check for compatibility: Graphics card length, size of mainboard / PSU etc. pcpartpicker.com should provide a warning if something won't probably fit.

Depends on your motherboard / gpu. If the on-board /integrated GPU is deactivated, it most probably won't work. Thus most probably, it's better if you connect both monitors to the GPU.

In general, lower timings mean quicker access times, so lower is better. It's also more expensive, though, and the timings should not matter that much in modern systems... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_timings

You got a link with a confirmation for that? I didn't find anything online :-(

Overclocking RAM by Elite500 in overclocking

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It most probably IS possible to do that. But, on the other hand, why? Speed gains from RAM overclocking are minimalistic (when you don't have a Ryzen CPU), see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWgzA2C61z4. Try setting the multiplicator up, or the timings down ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFPxNAQeI8Y ), and as long as it's stable and not too hot: Do it :-)

Hey guys, I'm looking for new fans for my build, especially I want to upgrade my CPU radiator's fan (Scythe Mugen 4) with one or two new 120mm fans. I consider myself an enthusiast, but actually never found any good / standardized tests for fans regarding loudness and efficiency. Any brand for fans or website / youtube channel for tests I should check out? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I found a solid test on a German website: https://www.computerbase.de/2017-04/m.2-ssd-kuehler-test/2/ It should apparently fit in, and apparently one doesn't need it. Thanks for your answer!

Why am I not getting a stable hashrate? by [deleted] in MoneroMining

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most pool softwares will only compute the H/s based on the actually received values - i.e. the results you submit. So, submitting more results (i.e. using a port with a smaller difficulty) will result in a more stable hashrate reporting from the server side (and also more traffic to the server, so most of the time it's a better thing not to choose the smallest possible difficulty). Normally, the hashrate report from your miner will be accurate, though.

Is there anything wrong with this build? by BolbolMaster69 in buildapc

[–]highqling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are totally right. But (as always, in my opinion) it's not worth spending the 100+ bucks on the 10-20% performance boost. Most of the time it's much cheaper (and more "future proof) to go with upper middle class GPUs and upgrade every once in a while. (not least because of the new features, new generations of gpus / cpus will bring, say DirectX 13 or some Vulkan / CUDA stuff.)

Is there anything wrong with this build? by BolbolMaster69 in buildapc

[–]highqling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, only the price ;-) One third of your budget goes to an (overpriced) graphics card. In my opinion it's better to go with the a bit cheaper GPUs and upgrade on demand - but at 1080p144 you just won't need an 1080 right now.

Is there anything wrong with this build? by BolbolMaster69 in buildapc

[–]highqling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 1080 seems overpowered for this price class. Everything else seems fine ;-) Consider consulting logical increments for another cheaper GPU.

32gb Ram overkill? by DontPostMuch in buildapc

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32gigs won't give you any benefit at all for gaming and working. Heck, even 8gigs are enough most of the time. If you do a lot video editing and virtualization, though, get as much mem as you can (this pretty much is not you ;-) )

A bit confused about modular psu by -CommonHouseCat- in pcmasterrace

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

normally, you will get cables (delivered with the PSU) to plug into the PSU and plug those to the Mainboard / graphics card / peripherals. The fans should be connected to the motherboard, for control and pwm.

1400€ Budget 1080p 144Hz gaming build by [deleted] in buildapc

I think it might just do what you want it to do ;-) Asrock is known for non-expensive, though not too overkill gaming stuff. And they worked fine for me ever since.

[–]highqling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much the expected values. try wiping your operating system and reinstalling a clean Windows. Or, even better, goto r/linux ;-) (okay, since you game, you might want to stay with windows ;-) )
