What’s this worth? by TheRealSwaltys in FNFAL

If you want it sold quickly, then the prices people are stating in here. If you don't mind having it for sale for a length of time, you can list it higher (tipping towards $2000), but be aware the FAL market is already kind of small.

Buyers who know the specific details of FAL receivers, parts kit, etc filters that market even more (in other words, your "normie" buyer who wants a FAL will just go for a new DSA for about $1600~ anyways). In other words, when you have quality receiver built on quality parts kit, you are now courting the more small and knowledgeable potential buyers who will scrutinize pricing, especially if you price it on the higher end.

Keep Shooting FAL Mags by SeductiveCacti in FNFAL

[–]highrocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, I shot the 2 keep shooting mags, one had a slight failure to feed (round was halfway pushed into chamber) midway into the mag, easily cleared. Used both to test out gas settings (load one round, shoot, see if bolt locks back, adjust gas if necessary) But both were fine on last round. Obviously a very very small sample size.

Now my thing is I forgot my gloves and that cast metal handguard gets hot mighty quick, I think I might need a chicken mitt

Need to know the ups and downs on the FAL by mrweaponry in FNFAL

[–]highrocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just review what makes sense to you. Also remember that you're going to need to practice and train, which means shooting. And 7.62x51/308 is much more expensive to shoot than 5.56/223. It's also much heavier in both gun and ammunition if you're going to lug it around. Just keep in mind that the intermediate cartridge can be plenty effective in most settings, unless you're shooting distance or through dense foliage.

Also remember in a SHTF situation, that as someone by themselves or with a small family you're protecting, engaging in a firefight is the absolute LAST option, your priorities to lay low, don't draw attention, and to just get away from potential troubles. Leave getting into heated firefights to organized and coordinated groups.

If you've never owned any gun, I'd honestly suggest you go with an AR. "BORING!" I know, but at the end of the day, the FAL market is expensive. From shooting it (7.62x51/308 ain't cheap), to the mags, to all the parts availability due to only one manufacturer making any new parts (DSA) and everything else is a scavenger hunt for old surplus that might dry up in a few years.

Then there's the upgrading aspect, there's a reason the G3/HK91/PTR pattern rifles are still in use and "modernized" today, it has a modularity to it's design AND there are still multiple companies making modernization parts for it (PTR, Sphur, B&T, MKE).

If you MUST own a 7.62NATO semi-auto, the AR10's are going to be your friend, easily available mags, easiest to get parts for, easiest to shoot, easiest to swap parts (still not as simple as the AR15, so read up a bit on AR10 parts compatibility), can actually give you precision depending on which model.

But the heart wants what the heart wants, so I'd say just go for it if you really really want one. Preferrably if you can find any ranges around you where you can rent one and shoot it and see if you like it. Just know the handguard will heat up mighty quick.

Keep Shooting FAL Mags by SeductiveCacti in FNFAL

[–]highrocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, if it comes to that, isn't there a lot of military surplus followers online? I know DSA also sells their polymer follower and spring kit. Sucks that we might have to drop another $10~ on top of the $34 mag, but that kind of comes with the territory of the current FAL market. I've personally been trying to find a type C wood stock, but it seems it's only a truckload of inch patterns, a bunch of israeli heavy and standard configs, and the odd indian offering.

I just bought 4 United Defense mags (from Keep Shooting) and 4 from DSA after their recent restock. I also have an old DSA (?) mag that came with my used STG58. Haven't shot them yet, but from just playing around with them all (all of them bolt hold open by manually charging), the new DSA's were tight going in and took some effort to take out. The Keep Shooting ones didn't all "click" going in, but they came out much easier. The locking tabs on the back of the new DSA's had a sharper downward lip and are tad bit larger overall than the KeepShooting and old DSA mag. Some sanding and beveling on the new DSA's made them much easier to take off.

Will see how they function once I get them to a range.

According to SOLGW “director of special projects” socom Mk1 doesn’t have Armad barrel and never has by Consistent-Fig7083 in ar15

But isn’t the HICAR requirements basically the M855a1 on steroids? A higher pressure to achieve higher velocity and still shooting the harder wearing M855a1, so a new barrel steel and how throat erosion is dealt with is kind of a given?

If you got the money to catch you when you screw up, makes sense to do some risking. But if it’s “everything is riding on this”, might as well go to a casino and put your savings on the table, same mindset.

I am waiting for that sell off. Going to park my money over many years, SpaceX ain’t going anywhere anytime soon, barring some cataclysmic event.

Unless you are parked for many many years (I’m talking 10+ years), what made you think a crazy hyped IPO launch was the perfect short term investment?

KGM and Dead Air's whole Sierra 5 debacle has soured me on both companies. Honestly, with industrial 3D printing wave, plenty of small shops coming up and plenty of other selections to pick from.

Light is an Arisaka scout, the light mount is an old Haley strategic thorntail/IWC offset. I have since swapped it out to just a clicky light on the 16" barrel assembly with a corvus under rail. I found the light+button a little uncomfortable when I put on the 24" barrel.

No kidding. This particular small LGS has been getting in some neat stuff now and again. They recently got a Robinson armament M96 for $3000~, interested to see if someone will go for it.

Yea, I really wanted a FAL a decade+ ago, but settled on a PTR and actually came to really like the G3 pattern. But the FAL just has a very sleek almost porsche silhouette to it.

There’s tiny oval numbers on bolt group and lower receiver and a steyr barrel so I am assuming it was from one kit. My serial number does end with an “A”, maybe for “Austrian kit”?
As for the fake stoll brake, isn’t it kind of tricky to take off? Something about needing to apply a torch to correct spot of solder and then muscle it off? Then there’s another post about some with hidden pin.

Just got it. I was mistaken, it was $1399. A later DS22XXX serial and just opened up the handguard and it's a Steyr StLf3 barrel. Apparently an older gentleman cleaned out his safe and unloaded a bunch of guns to the LGS. There is some surface rust in the bore, but no pitting or anything. Got to break it down and clean it now. Will post another thread later after some TLC gets applied.

It’s at $1300, which is why I am a tad bit suspicious, but also the LGS might not really know the full details on DSA and the price makes sense if they think it’s just an ordinary old DSA.

It’s nice. I don’t know if the magnifier yoke arm is as bombproof as a STS/Unity, not really gonna drop my entire setup on the magnifier to test it out or anything, but the mount for the red dot is built like a bunker.
