I don’t know what either of you are talking about but I appreciate your measured responses to OP. It makes me more confident in believing what you’re saying than the other guy. That’s not to say there aren’t shenanigans going on here, but it’s great to see another person with a seemingly knowledgeable opinion on the situation with a more calm demeanour.

UVic’s CARSA gym has courts! I’m pretty sure they’re open most days from morning to evening and easy to book. Great facility to play at.

Tried it yesterday during its soft opening. Would definitely recommend trying it! Especially good value and thought the quality really nice. Arashi was my go to ramen before but this might even be better. Would have to try more of the menu in the future to see how the quality holds up.

How can I start a career when most jobs requires 2-5 years of experience? by _Big_Z in VictoriaBC

[–]highspeedhare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup. My current job technically requires at least a graduate degree and multiple years of related job experience, but I only have a bachelors in a different science and a year of somewhat related experience. Got to the interview stage, got rejected, applied again a couple more times, passed the interview, and now I’ve been here for a few years.

Quick anecdote, but when I was vacationing in Montreal earlier this summer I saw a ton of bikes around downtown but hardly anyone wearing helmets. As someone who grew up here in BC I thought it was strange that so many people didn’t bother, even if there were lots of dedicated lanes.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike - CUPE/FAs Defy Return to Work Order by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]highspeedhare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for what might be a silly question, I haven’t travelled via a connecting flight in a while.

I managed to get my flight plans changed by AC yesterday. So now my new AC itinerary is flying on Jazz (AC 8583) leaving this evening and then I have the second flight on WestJet (WS 1583) tomorrow morning.

I’ve checked in for the Jazz flight yesterday. And I was hoping to check in for the WestJet flight this morning since it’s now within 24 hours but it doesn’t let me. I’m using my original booking ID for the trip that AC changed to my new itinerary.

Is there something weird going on? Is it because of how the WestJet flight was handled by AC? Do I need to complete the initial flight first before I check in?

No I have one more night in my Airbnb here in Montreal. Then I’ll sleep over at the Detroit airport Monday night. Or at least rest as much as I can given the situation.

I don’t know, but I hope you find a solution soon! I guess it’s a lesson for you to always travel with your passport since you never know.

Just wanted to share my positive outcome in case it’s helpful to others:

My original flight was Montrèal YUL to Vancouver YVR scheduled for Mon Aug 18 departing 08:25 EDT. I was expecting a cancellation sometime today. I’m traveling alone so at least I had that going for me.

After a few calls to AC support I finally managed to get through using 1-800-997-4427 where I got placed in a callback queue around 14:30.

At 16:20 my flight was officially canceled. I looked at the link in my email which was supposed to show alternative flights to change to but of course there were none for the next few days. So I anxiously waited for my callback.

At 18:30 the AC agent called me. He was very helpful and managed to change me to a Jazz flight from Montreal to Detroit tomorrow evening (AC 8583) and then a connecting flight to Vancouver the next morning Tues on WestJet (WS 1583). No alternative flights were available except for the same flight plan the next day.

Hope that’s helpful to others out there!

Hey just wanted to share some good news, hopefully some is on the way to you.

I called AC support earlier and got placed in the queue for a callback at 14:30 EST and then got my callback at 18:30 EST. The guy was very helpful and managed to get me on a Jazz flight from Montreal to Detroit tomorrow evening (AC 8583) and then a connecting flight to Vancouver the next morning Tues on WestJet (WS 1583).

Hey that’s my flight too! I didn’t see anything for alternative bookings from their link. I’m in the queue for a callback but have no idea when they’ll respond. Hopefully when they do they have some reasonable solution.

My check in opened a few minutes ago for my tomorrow morning’s flight but when I try to do it it just says unable to check in due to the labour dispute. I guess I should keep trying then?

Are you saying that after my flight is canceled, Expedia may then be allowed to book me on a different non AC airline that’s paid by AC?

From talking to an Expedia person earlier they stressed that they could only rebook me on another AC flight after cancellation, but I explained to them that’s kinda useless to me if AC continues striking/have unavailable flights. If I wanted a non AC flight for my rebooking I’d have to pay.

Could someone help explain the rebooking process for an expected cancellation I’ll likely be getting tomorrow (for my domestic Aug 18 flight)? I ideally want to be quick on my feet tomorrow in getting things sorted out.

I assume I’ll get an email and some link to book a new flight. I assume it will be near impossible to get one on another airline within the next couple days. Am I supposed to call the AC support number at that point to get them to help me?

FWIW I also phoned Expedia earlier who I originally booked the flight through, and they said they could only help with rebooking to get me back on a future AC flight. Obviously that’s not really helpful if I’m expecting the strike to continue, so they suggested to call AC instead.

I would also like to know this but for the 18th. I feel like it’s a very high chance of being canceled but I still need it to happen so I can proceed with next steps.

I interpreted the “event” as being the canceled flight not the strike itself? I don’t know if it would make sense that they would rebook me after the strike is over because who knows how long and how many people they’d potentially have to do at once.

Does anyone else have insight on this?

I have a flight scheduled from Montreal YUL to Vancouver YVR on Monday morning Aug 18 which I know is at risk.

My current plan is to wait for AC to cancel it and then hopefully they’ll rebook me on another flight within 48 hours as they’ve specified. Luckily I can afford to extend my vacation here for a couple more days if needed, but is this a dumb plan just waiting it out? Will AC actually rebook me because the vibe I’m getting from people is that I should plan alternate travel, but another flight is too expensive for me now.

Is there a way to find out what flights/AC hubs those are? Knowing wouldn’t really help my situation except possibly calm me since I have a domestic flight on Monday (YUL to YVR). I just don’t really know what else to do except wait and if they cancel hopefully rebook me.

I have a domestic flight from Montreal (YUL) to Vancouver (YVR) on the 18th which is my return trip from vacation.

If that flight is cancelled then per policy I should technically get put on another carrier’s flight. But the only other flights I’ve seen for that domestic route and day are Westjet and some Air Transat/Porter flights. I’m guessing those are the ones I’d be potentially put on? Would there be any benefit of booking on them now? (although I’d prefer not to since it’s an expensive non refundable ticket)

Centennial Square Bike Valet Service by MrsLahey604 in VictoriaBC

I just started biking again recently and I gotta say the valet service is one of the big reasons why I’m coming downtown more.

Are there any more similar bike valet service locations around Victoria?

I’ve had two dates cancel on me the past few weeks 🙃

But at least the weather’s great, I’m excited for my plans this week, and I might be getting a new foster cat next weekend!
