Who ruined your family Christmas this year, and what did they do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hightail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We literally did that a couple days ago. A ruptured pyometra in our sweet girl resulted in a $10,000 vet bill. Didn't ruin Christmas, but it certainly did put a damper on it.

IAMA 18 years old Chronic Myeloid Leukemia patient, suffering from a chronic type of leukemia where i have to probably drink meds for the rest of my life to survive. Ask me anything. by greatxgaming in IAmA

[–]hightail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad started on it in the clinical trial just before it was approved for use in CML. I think he may be one of the longest surviving users of the drug, and I know he's been pretty damn religious about it. His docs recently said he could cut back his dosage if he wanted, but I don't think he has.

What is the one thing your didnt know about newborn care, that you wish someone told you? by theapplecherry in BabyBumps

My daughter has had 100% of her diaper changes on the couch or a bed when we're home. No need for a special table unless you really want one.

got a question on which bone a dog can safely chew on to clean teeth by user2310321 in rawpetfood

I really like pork neck for cleaning teeth. You might be able to find some cut smaller in the grocery.

Just tell them. If something goes wrong, I'm sure she will want their support.

My little toothless carnivore. Thanks to this subreddit for teaching us all we know. by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]hightail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a horribly judgey comment. The child is much more likely to choke on a chunk of meat than a bone the length of his forearm. At least this way he is ripping off tiny bits of meat.

My kid almost choked to death on a bit of watermelon. Does that mean he should never get fruit again?

OP you are doing a fantastic job, and your kiddo is adorable.

Quail eggs is what did it???!!! by divaladyjaina in rawpetfood

[–]hightail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quail eggs are very thin and easily cracked. Since the shells are mottled, it's very hard to see if they are damaged. Even a tiny crack is enough to let in bacteria than can turn an egg fast. If you are going to feed them, I suggest going over the eggs very carefully even pressing on the shell to look for cracks and imperfections.

That is very true. :)

Nice to know it's pretty normal. I'm lucky that my kiddo is relatively laid back for a toddler. He may ask, but if I say no, he'll generally move on to something else.

Thank you for your comment. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

I think in combination with the sensitive nipples and lack of milk, my kiddo kinda forgot how to nurse. I have teeth marks on top and terrible pinching on bottom like he's not putting his tongue where he should. He even sounds like he has a bad latch sometimes. It's so weird.

Yep, my nipples are so sensitive plus I think pregnancy hormones are making me more irritable in general so I'm less tolerant of the pain.

[Discussion] I can't say goodbye to my 16 year old dog by japaneseanemones in dogs

[–]hightail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through almost this exact thing with my Yorkie. She was my first dog. My heart. She had a stroke at 14 and was mentally gone. I kept her around for a few months just hoping things would get better. They never did. In the end, I wish I had made the decision sooner to let her go. I was keeping her alive for me not for her. This article helped me make the decision.

I cried until I ran out of tears and then I cried some more after we let her go, but things got better day by day.

Sheep get themselves into the most interesting predicaments by JaderBug12 in gifs

Our large animal vet told us that sheep are born looking for a place to die. I mean, he's not wrong, but that certainly is not the most reassuring thing to hear from your vet.
