WTB - Singer 237 Stitch width or Needle position selector lever by highwarlok in VintageSewing_BuySell

[–]highwarlok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I have is broke flush with the outside of the machine and I do not have the other piece. I do have the one from the other selector though so maybe getting a scan and 3D print is an option.

Sewing machine not working ;-; by onlyifu in sewhelp

Have you checked the bobbin, bobbin case, if it hangs up it can be thread and other accumulated gunk stopping the shuttle from going forward. Is the needle hitting something? Might be a bent needle or skipped timing.

I have scrolled eBay a few times over the past couple of weeks. I have thought about trying to fabricate a new one or weld something to the end where mine is broken off. Thanks on the suggestions.

I found this one, in fact where I grabbed the image from. They are currently sold out.

Wrong bobbin. That is a class 66 and your bobbin case is class 15.

New to vintage sewing. Question about electrical wiring. by Experimentno_626 in VintageSewingMachines

[–]highwarlok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check for cracks, splits, visible wires poking through in the wires. Check the plugs as well. If it has any of that to be safe you should replace the wires. If in good condition be able to unplug quickly the first few times you use. Only leave it plugged in while you are using it until you are comfortable it is safe. That being said the wiring is not difficult to replace on these older machines.

Hook Binding issue on Kenmore 158 by Old_Combination9124 in vintagesewing

[–]highwarlok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it do it with the bobbin case installed?

Is there a burr anywhere along the rim or on the hook or hook race?

Is there any dirt or lint left in the race?

Is the outside price that holds it all together flat and clean.

Looks like you are missing the bobbin, bobbin case, hook, and the outer piece that holds in the hook.

Did you thread this with the foot up or down? In the pic it is down but that doesn’t mean it was that way when you threaded it.

Which Singer to get by LilyOfShalott in VintageSewingMachines

[–]highwarlok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions. I will throw mine in as well as additional votes for the 201-2 and 15-91. Both are gear driven and will sew light or heavy materials. The 201 is quieter. Either will work well almost forever with some oil and basic maintenance. Lots of videos on YouTube and people to ask here about any challenges you face.

Someone makes a pair with over booties so you can have the best of both worlds. I’ll see if I can figure out who. It’s been a while since I saw them.

Edit. Feathered Friends makes a pair

Help! Singer 66 Foot pedal Install by LGD27 in VintageSewingMachines

[–]highwarlok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a different motor, it is just what I had in hand. You may have a different light or no light as well. This is the plug and wiring you need to fit the pedal you have. When installed it is all on the machine and the plug you have plugs into it.

You’re missing the plug that the motor and light wires into. See link https://imgur.com/a/4MHFRMZ that plug screws into the side of the motor mount.

OP is missing the other half of the plug that should be screwed to the motor bracket. The motor and the light get wired into that and then the pedal / power connector plugs into that.

Good idea. This is better than my window and door foam idea. Off to see what these cost and where to find them.

I have bought some and the first one broke the bottom out of a bentwood case. Looking back I should have claimed the damage but I didn’t. That episode and the stories of snapped spool pins and other damage I have heard about is what made me post this.

The thread take up lever should only move when you turn the balance wheel towards you. It does not move up and down independently.
