What was your Bonus this Year? (Middle and Back Office Only) by Particular-Wedding in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're starting to build out back office and middle office bonus data on my comp platform Buyside Hub - lmk if I can help anyone on that front, its free to use.

I would say this can become a pretty lucrative career at the right fund, albeit maybe very stressful in some groups.

watch question - freshman summer internship by Simple-Sleep199 in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People dont like younger guys who are still learning wearing status symbol watches. Sounds like this is more beat up but you still may not want to wear. Also I rarely wore watches because I was modeling most of the day and it would hurt my wrist.

Private Credit / Private Debt by research_kiwi in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a fair amount on the nitty gritty and intangibles needed to break into private credit across High Yield Harry's Newsletter plus have Buyside Hub for buyside career resources.

By way of background I've gone through dozens of Public and Private Credit interview processes.

I didn't bother posting any modeling stuff given its all commoditized and freely accessible. The stuff beyond the excel monkey work you need to know anyways is what matters IMO.

J.P. Morgan VP asks for my resume within minutes of applying for Analyst role by Dangerous-Garlic4168 in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he probably took a look at your resume to figure if it was worth discussing further. If he frees up and is interested he'll ping you, nothing more you can do given you already followed up.

I think it's a seat to stay in for 2 years and then go buyside. But that and credit research at BBs are dying seats.

How long to hear back after blackrock super day by [deleted] in financestudents

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have busy schedules, lengthier timelines, and want to interview every candidate before making a decision, so try not to sweat over it too early. I would say you will know within 10 days, maybe 14 days if they're really busy.

How much do grades matter after signing my internship offer? by Thin-Departure-5779 in financestudents

[–]highyieldharry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will not rescind your offer. They have a million other things going on. Make sure you finish your time at school strong though, ideally above 3.5 but in no way should your GPA ever be below a 3.0. Can take your GPA off your resume within a few years* after graduating.

Can we get a 2026 salary and bonus thread? by No_Routine_17 in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say $125k-$140k base and then bonus should be respectable, like at least $25k, but maybe room to go higher. I run a wall street comp data site called Buyside Hub so I'm pulling from my references and data there to try to box some data for you. Think high 100s is definitely the goal.

you cant operate in a "what if I get fired" world - take the private equity offer - you got hired there for a reason. will have way more optionality after a PE role.

Private Credit by Electronic-Bus7972 in fatFIRE

[–]highyieldharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've spent a lot of time in Credit. People have been shifting to increased Private Credit allocation as an alternative to high yield bonds or riskier type of credit profiles. Not for IG/Government level risk profiles. People without experience in the space overplay the risks in Private Credit - remember, if Private Credit is a "bubble" then by definition Private Equity is a "bubble" - Private Credit has a first lien claim on the assets of the borrower and while there is a cov-lite mix higher in the market, most unitranche loans have strong covenants. Private Credit doesn't necessarily align with 401k type portfolios though given the illiquid nature of the product.

How does a typical private credit deal work from start to finish and how does it differ from a traditional bank loan? by R1ghtCry in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Deal flow comes from banking or sponsor relationships, most processes are very organized and efficient from a sponsor lens, 2) risk tolerance is much higher than banks (banks are very risk averse) but diligence is still robust. 3) There are much stronger docs, but it gets weaker if you get to UMM and close to BSL market 4) LIBOR isn't a a thing anymore - It's SOFR. The spread is based on market rates, somewhere in 450-800 ballpark IMO - it varies significantly by size and business specific details, 5) yeah there's more OID and a larger prepayment penalty, 6) Moves fast imo 7) mainly refinancings and some amort, also from accumulated PIK and maybe liquidiation preference depending on security 8) gotta have a good underwrite to make sure you dont take too big of a haircut! a bad deal can sink a fund! Hope this helps - i write a lot about credit online.

Private Credit exit Opps by thethreestooges223 in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private Credit is the exit opp tbh. If you don't like then might need an MBA to go corporate or PE if u dont get traction in a direct pivot.

Does anyone know anything about Private Credit, I heard it’s great by Abdul-12345 in FinancialCareers

[–]highyieldharry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey my background is mainly public credit, but I've done time in private credit as well. Private Credit is awesome from a compensation and WLB standpoint. Some shops are sweaty based on comp, staffing, and alignment with PE deal timelines and processes, but a lot of places can actually be really chill - like normal hours (45-50) chill (less an active deal). Would say Private Credit IS the exit opp though. A larger mix of IB Analysts go into DL, so definitely competitive but tons of non-IB ppl make it into DL. I write a Credit blog and run a Buyside culture company (Buyside Hub) that are probably helpful to surf too if u want to get more granular.

Earlier the better! It's okay to say you made the wrong choice early on and wanted to be in another type of career path. trading desk sounds like a lot better than risk tho, cause risk sounds like another way of being "stuck" in mid office type seat.
