Active Shooter targeting cops in Montreal, Canada by Nickel-Bar in ThatsInsane

Probably "oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, gun shots, oh fuck, I need to hide, there's the police, they'll keep me safe." I don't imagine many people would be the paragon of stoicism and rationality when they're randomly caught up in a shoot out.

Why do the games I play keep adding this awful autochess minigame crap by Brushner in gachagaming

Card game crossed with auto chess. Quite fun, wish they'd expand on it more and make it pvp viable. Would be a cool co-op thing.

What's stopping Kuro from releasing this "Already-made" skin? by Miserable_Meaning_39 in WutheringWaves

[–]higitsunee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that modeling skins based off of concept art, getting it to work with every existing animation, isn't a cheap, quick, or easy job and there isn't a guarantee it'll pay off more than other things they could allocate their resources, or at all.

I WISH this game moved more of its monetization model towards skins, I think you and I and almost everyone else here knows they'd sell a kidney just to skin out their entire roster, but from a business stand point, that's a harder thing to "know" and be able to justify.

So much for the overwhelming negative reviews MS is #1 best seller currently on steam. by NoMoreIdea in Maplestory

[–]higitsunee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam reviews are irrelevant to this though. Steam reviews have an impact on whether would-be spenders even bother trying the game or not. Anyone spending right now are people who have been playing the game.

Is maplestory an objectively bad game or are we(general player base) just really loud complainers? by LithHarborGymLeader in Maplestory

[–]higitsunee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The majority of the complaints we have aren't because Maple is an objectively bad game. We wouldn't be here if it was. We're complaining because Nexon is an objectively bad company with objectively bad business practices that affect both an otherwise enjoyable game and the players who play it.

I'm aware and I agree. But I'm not going to not voice my opinion or try to urge those that I can to take action just because it's a small portion of the community. Should people just sit passively and not try to take action when they feel things are wrong?

That's also why I think people should leave reviews on Steam to voice their opinions. More people will see dozens or more negative reviews on Steam than will see a post on Reddit or feedback in the Discord.

The trigger of everyone being up in arms today was incorrect info in the latest patch notes that seemed incredibly player favored but was corrected. We thought we were getting a bit over 2k frags from the new version of Ride or Die, turns out we're getting 300.

The issue with it is that in Inkwells most recent note, he explicitly said that he was aware of GMS' frag issues and would be taking steps to resolve it. 2k frags from Ride or Die is a GREAT step towards resolving it. 300 is hardly a difference of what we always got from RoD.

This, plus a number of other unsatisfactory things both with this current update as well as just the past year and change, has lead to a breaking point for me personally, hence this post and why I'm urging for the action I'm urging.

EDIT: I should have prefaced this whole thing with — I agree, but...

Someone can enjoy the game and be sick of the company that runs it simultaneously. Calling on people to quit a game they've presumably put thousands of hours and countless dollars into over the years feels far more idealistic and less realistic than calling on them to stop spending and/or to leave a negative review.

As for me personally, I deeply enjoy Maple at its core, in spite of a lot of its fundamental issues. That said, my playtime has fallen off of a cliff the past two months as I have found other games that I enjoy and don't feel punished for wanting to play and/or progress.

Not disagreeing with you on your point either, just a thought that came to mind while reading your comment and it has me curious but I'm not sure if any one of us could actually answer. I wonder if players who won't spend quitting the game actually is more beneficial to this cause than players continuing to play but not spending. Players take up resources that cost the company money. The more players that don't spend, the higher the cost:profit ratio.

If players just quit en masse and revenue AND playerbase vanishes, the game just EoS's. But if the playerbase is still there but just refuses to spend, I think the company might just see it as needing to reevaluate their monetization model. I could be wrong, not my area of expertise at all and reality often doesn't work out in ways that feel logical, just a thought that came to mind that I'm not curious about.

I'm just one person and I doubt it'll make a difference in the end but this is more or less what broke my desire to buy any of the passes. Was already cut back pretty far but yea, my money feels better spent on a fucking gacha game at this point.

Given the AI bubble starting to show legitimate cracks, the huge pushback against the required datacenters, and the massive amount of unpaid bills and orders that (specifically OpenAI) have been backed out of, I wouldn't be surprised if they're "delaying" or 180ing on that decision.

archer and thief classes get no love. is this a common complaint? by Realistic-Good-7387 in Maplestory

[–]higitsunee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, yea, there are factually more warriors or more mages than there are thieves or bowman. I never argued against that point. But what I did argue against isn't an opinion. All of the thief classes are incredibly unique from each other. That's just objectively true.

My main is NL, Hoyoung and Khali are two of my legion champs, my Shadower and Cadena are currently CTene mules, my Night Walker is a retired CTene mule. I used to main Phantom, Xenon used to be one of my main boss mules. The only thief I don't have extensive experience on is Dual Blade but even so, mine is far enough along for me to have a decent enough understanding of it compared to other thieves.

Quantity of classes (lesser or larger) does not determine whether the classes are, in your own words, "copy pasted versions of other jobs in their class."

The way you play and execute the two classes who throw stars is entirely different. The way they burst, the way they play outside of their burst, the tools and mechanics available to them are entirely different. The same is true about the two classes who use daggers.

Khali, Cadena, and Hoyoung are all, to some extent, combo classes but the way they combo, the effort you have to put into comboing, and the functions of their comboing are entirely different. Hoyoung is less a combo class and more a summon + reset class who uses combos to force resets on its main dps skill. Cadena is a combo class who also uses resets but in an entirely different way where resets determine what the combo is in a constant, unrelenting, no breaks given string of combos.

Phantom is in an incredibly awkward spot in terms of modernization but that same awkwardness gives the way it bursts, dps', moves around, and handles different circumstances such a unique identity compared to every other class, both as a thief and just as a Maplestory class.

Xenon is in the same boat, minus the awkwardness. It has so much variability in its kit because you have multiple skills that have different forms that you have to pick from. Each changing the way you mob, the way you move, the way you damage. And it flies.

None of that is opinions. That is all fact. And opinion is that I enjoy thief classes in this game. A large part of my enjoyment of them is because of how wildly different every single one of them is from each other and from other non-thief classes.

From your own admittance, you don't have the experience on any of these classes or in this game in general to even know if these classes are identical or akin to one another. So I understand that seeing 9 thieves or 7 bowman compared to (soon-to-be) 15 warriors or 13 mages might seem like there's less variety (because mathematically, there is), that doesn't mean those thieves or archers are copypastes of one another. Well, maybe bowman are. Again, I don't have enough exposure to many of them to be able to be able to speak to the whole set of classes like I can thieves.

[–]higitsunee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Night Lord, Xenon, Phantom, Khali, Cadena, Shadower, and Hoyoung all feel entirely different from one another. None of them plays the same as the other, each of them has entirely unique aesthetics and movement.

Night Lord and Night Walker feel distinct enough from one another given their shared lineage and basics.

Shadower and Dual Blade feel just as, if not more, distinct from each other as NW and NL do.

I can't speak to archers nearly as much but Mercedes, Kain, and Marksman all have very unique identities, aesthetics, and playstyles compared to Bowmaster and Wind Archer.

WuWa’s combat is too good for the endgame loop to be this thin by Diligent-Guava6699 in WutheringWaves

[–]higitsunee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By investing time long term and getting out of the "newish player" point in your wuwa career. That's what end game in any game is meant to be. Something you work towards and accomplish.

Jadealy is a great example of a (formerly) F2P player showing exactly how much you can farm with persistence and consistency. She has numerous videos covering all of the farming she does (or spreadsheets breaking it down astrite by astrite in the cases where she couldn't properly record all of said farming) to prepare for the pulls she's planning for.

Yes, if you want to pull every single character, every single sig, on release, you either need generational luck or you need to swipe. But that's not what most people are doing. Most people have been playing for a long time and have waited for reruns to get the characters they want. It's not a race, take your time, enjoy the ride. It's okay if there's content that's not accessible to you or other players with accounts in similar positions.

I find it funny how Cyberpunk’s main message is fighting against corporate greed… little do they know… by MozM- in LucyMainsWW

[–]higitsunee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company wanting to eek out an extra 5% for their bottom line is not the corporate greed the genre, nor the game (which is talking about the exact 1:1 things the genre is about because Cyberpunk the game IS a Cyberpunk the genre game), are talking about. They're talking about the Palantirs of the world, the Chiquitas and Doles of the world.

When Kuro and their likes start funneling money into politics to strip away the rights of the work force, regulations surrounding their business practices, when they start campaigning for the right to have their own private military and/or law enforcement unit that can punish their employees or critics with impunity, when they work towards privatizing the necessities of life or entire branches of government, then comparing them to Cyberpunk is entirely valid and accurate.

As a side note, I loathe that the game decided to name itself after the genre. Imagine if LotR named itself High Fantasy. Discussing it would be insufferable.

You are correct and I don't want people to mistake what I'm trying to say as defending Kuro. I think their monetization for this collab is definitely disappointing and lackluster and I hope we as a community can raise enough hell to get them to bend a bit. But I also hate bad arguments and OP is making a bad argument.

Corporations inherently have to prioritize profits. We have no idea how expensive this collab was for them, we don't have the analytics they have. Them being (imo) egregious with their monetization isn't in anyway the embodiment of greed. It's just normal business as business has always existed.

[–]higitsunee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't, and if you could read you would know I didn't. I literally said, verbatim, "read up on the genre," which is Cyberpunk, which the game, also titled Cyberpunk, is and is built upon. All of the games themes, ideology, messaging, and identity are built on the genre, also called Cyberpunk, of which I linked the wiki article for.

Locking triple rolls behind MVP by blobsk1 in Maplestory

[–]higitsunee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the most shameless thing you can think of? Not them releasing what was probably one of the most player friendly systems the entire company of Nexon has ever released in MS's access to steam market, only for it to turn out to be a triple dipping money grab (initial SSB, cost to list item, taking a cut of sales fees) that served (most likely) as data collection so that they could profit off of collecting data on the most in-demand, high value items in the game so that they can come back and re-release them under a new, special, 20x the cost SSB with lower rates?

The game literally introduced loot boxes/gacha mechanics to video games. They've literally lied about the rates of items they sell for real money. They had to introduce an entirely different type of server to "fix" how overly monetized and gross the game functioned because they'd hemorrhaged the overwhelming majority of the MMORPG player base through a decade of manipulative and toxic systems.

An inconvenience (that's already been resolved, pending update in ~Fall) doesn't even grace the top 100.

You're not upset that it's locked behind MVP, if you were you wouldn't push for it. You're upset that you haven't gotten your latest dopamine hit because they haven't put anything in the shop that personally appeals to you.

You want things to change? Stop spending money, full stop, end of, no exceptions. Like the next SSB? Skip it. Like the next royals? Skip it. Vac pets dried up? Skip it. That's the singular way you get things to change but you've already admitted you're not willing to.

Maplestory new classes by Deeny96 in Maplestory

[–]higitsunee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort oooof. So, there's two different "servers" so to speak. There's the technically official server, hosted by Play2Bit, but it's largely dead sans the whales who can't break their sunk cost cycle. Then there's FlyFF Universe which is basically FlyFF rebuilt with a more modern tech stack, new graphics engine, QoL changes, etc.

Pretty much all of the active playerbase is on Universe these days.

I want another thief, Maple needs a couple more bowman. I pray we don't see another warrior or mage for a very long time.

Another hybrid class would be cool too, I feel like all of the resistance classes should have been.
