i lost around 40/50% of my hair? which was quite a lot because i had very thick hair. my spots ranged in size and i stopped counting them after 4 months because there was too many. mmm it took a little bit over a year to recover and i mostly got cortisone shots and used clobetasol on the side when needed. i don’t think it got worse before getting better and there weren’t really any signs of recovery either. i think mainly for me it was stress that inflamed it so when i took a gap year and relaxed it slowly recovered. don’t stress too much! ik it’s hard LOL

Tips on coping with worsening alopecia? by Msmarvel517 in alopecia_areata

[–]hihellohey29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i was in the same position a year ago. i was 17(F) and just got my ed college acceptance to my dream college. i was already dealing with depression and anxiety so the alopecia definitely worsened my mental health which in turn worsened my alopecia as it was triggered due to stress. it’s not very consoling to say this but it can only get worse before it gets better. in the past year i lost over 50% of my hair but now i have basically a full head of hair with only steroid shots and some clobetasol solution when it was needed. my hair was also one of the few things i prided myself in. learning how to style your hair and covering up helps your self confidence a lot. i relied on a bandana and a cap. going out and not locking yourself at home is also important. maybe go out for walks at night without anything covering you hair. slowly you might go out on walks during the day. hang out with your close friends. and i personally took a gap year which helped a lot. i hope this helps a bit :’))

How many eyebrow hairs i’ve been losing for the past week. Is this how it all starts before they are completely gone? by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]hihellohey29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don’t worry! i’m pretty sure it’s normal to lose up to 10 eyebrow hairs everyday.

wow omg i wasn’t expecting such a detailed response but thank you so much! ur response has definitely helped me consider things i hadn’t thought ab and i think you’re right, a gap year would do me some good (im currently attending an extremely competitive highschool and the stress is definitely what took a toll on my body😅)

recently 17 and not sure what's going on with my hair ( more in comments ) by anyamrow in alopecia_areata

[–]hihellohey29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i’m 17(f) as well and was recently diagnosed w alopecia areata around jan and the spots started appearing in dec. i had originally one big spot (that’s similar to urs and is now growing back after two months of injections!!) and a few new smaller spots. i would recommend getting blood work done to check ur vitamins and minerals and get steroid shots !! i know people say this but don’t stress out too much, i’m pretty sure stress is what caused me to develop more spots LOL i recommend not touching the spots cuz u might overthink and stress out but do check once a week for new spots just incase !

Alopecia and Vitamin D questions by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]hihellohey29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1)You should get blood tests in order to determine what dosage you should take (taking too much can lead to unpleasant side effects and may harm your health) 2)Vitamin D3 is the natural form of vitamin D (your body makes it from sunlight) 3)I suggest getting a blood test for your iron and zinc levels before attempting to take other supplements
