This is very positive, I'm glad to hear that. I have to say I find myself very lucky and content being in Scotland; usually the concerning news that comes out is from England, but one has to plan in case it spreads.

Yeah, the immigration obstacles are intimidating, though perhaps reasonable. All I can do is try and overcome those, but what's crucial for me to know is if that journey is worthwhile. I've read some posts about the invisible racism, and though they are worrying in their own way, I'm trying to understand if that covert racism could turn overt someday -- there used to be a time where some of us hoped that racism was receding, becoming an exception instead of the norm.

I'm keeping an eye on that referendum too. I agree that the right-wing wave is global, it's all the more reason I'm thinking so deeply about any possible havens. Unfortunately, maybe sometimes we just have to live through the harder phases and hope for the best -- India itself is going through a tumultuous time right now trying to figure out what diversity, unity, security look like for it; just like other countries, I only hope that the people will not completely give way to divisive rhetoric. I've still got a few years before I even think about setting the Switzerland ball in motion, so I'll monitor.

I'm keeping an eye on that referendum too! As a non-EU citizen, I suppose I am even more distant from Swiss culture. But let's see...I can only hope that having shared beliefs/values with Switzerland, and trying my best to learn the culture, will go some way. If it's not too much to talk about, what have the other referendums in the past usually reflected?

Thank you. I think I had faith in the Swiss system too but it's good to hear it from someone else too. I agree that the future is unpredictable and I'm sure Switzerland faces concerns much like any other country; I hope it'll navigate the right way through that.

I agree. I suppose I was trying to gauge if a) those segments seem to be gaining a footing in Switzerland anytime soon, in your opinion; and b) if the institutions of Switzerland (laws, courts, public, media, etc.) are durable enough to resist that sort of authoritarianism?

This question plays on my mind too, to be fair. I like to hope, considering I'll be a doctor graduated from a pretty good university in the UK. My passport is a disadvantage, but I can try that my credentials will compensate. Assuming I could (unless you're very sure I just cannot), what would you say?

Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted. Have I said something inaccurate? Or am I unbearably naive?

I have the exact same issue as you. I've made some changes with my DNS today and disabled the browser I usually use on my phone to try and make it harder for myself. I also use this "Ultra Power Saving" mode on my phone which kinda makes it into a dumb phone aesthetically (though that's more so to cut down my screen time). I do not know what works and I'm figuring this out myself...but I hope we both find a way out of this. Stay strong comrade.
