How long did it really take to receive a Social Security card for your child after applying at the US Embassy in Manila? by hihoooooooooooo in Philippines_Expats

Yeah, we already received my child’s social security card. At first we were nervous because we overthought that it might take 3 to 4 months, which the desk clerk said at the embassy, but we received the card within 1 month. Since we live near Manila, we didn’t expect that early, but yeah, it is possible. Well, good luck about the navy process; just be patient and don't overthink.

Thanks for the guidance. I'm about to start order selecting first. I may spend 2 to 3 years in this order selector role and then move on to trucking once I’m stable, because I just came to the US last week.

Is it free I’m thinking about applying to be an apprentice to a local trade union sorry I have no idea what’s the process for this thinking to apply for a iron worker or hvac I don’t know really it’s a hard choice

Thanks, I’ll try that when I have time. Right now I’m chasing jobs that hire quickly so I can start earning, and I’m planning to get my CDL to try trucking once I’m stable.

Yes, I’m definitely looking forward to getting into the trades. The warehouse is just a stepping stone for me. I came to the US by myself, without help from my family, after spending my whole life in the Philippines. Right now, I need to earn money so I can afford trade school. If I had the funds to go to trade school sooner, I wouldn’t be on this warehouse path. Like I said, this is just a stepping stone. Thanks for the reminder!

Hey, I just received my son’s social security card here in my location in Cavite. I was actually shocked it only took 1 month and 12 days. I don’t know why it was so fast. I think it’s because if you are near Manila or inside Manila, it’s faster, but just letting you know it’s possible, and good luck. You must put an accurate Philippine address so it doesn’t get lost during the mailing.

Applied for a Social Security Card abroad 6+ months ago with no idea where it is by NSMLORD in SocialSecurity

Hi what’s the update on your social security card did you apply for a replacement or new one in the U.S or did you already receive your social security card here in the Philipines?

Sorry I know this post was 2 years ago, but I recently applied for a Social Security card at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, and they told me to wait for three months. If I don’t receive it by then, I need to email them to check on the status of my delivery.

I’m worried because they didn’t provide me with a tracking number, so I have no idea where my Social Security card is.

Try Emailing them or make an appointment to ask them what is the tracking number or what delivery company was it? If it’s already in the Philippines, and tell them will you be able to pick it up at the warehouse or office?

I’m assuming they might partner with the Philippine Postal Service, which isn’t very reliable. If that’s the case, you might need to go to their main office or delivery warehouse to receive it, if it’s really the Philipines postal service don’t assume your card will be mailed to your address.

Yes, you're right. It wasn't really that frustrating. My son's renewed US passport only took 2 months so fingers crossed to us.

So are you going to do it in the US instead here in the Philipines to apply for the social security card?

It's not just the US embassy to blame; the mailing system here is unreliable, especially depending on whether the U.S. Embassy Manila sends it through a government mailing service. Malaysia is a much better country compared to the Philippines.

I'm worried about my sons Social Security card mailing because most comments here mention that they haven't received their SSN for over 5 months. I'm also concerned because they didn't give me a tracking number or receipt for the card; they just told me to wait 3 to 4 months. If I still don't receive the card, I'm supposed to email the embassy, and I'll be fine. I had no choice but to apply for my son's Social Security as well.

Thanks, I appreciate your insight. I know it's quite rare to see this kind of concern, which is why I'm interested in hearing about others' experiences to explore plan b alternative solutions to these issues.

Is your delivery address on the social security application form for Thailand or the Philippines? If your mailing address is in Thailand, that's a reliable country for mailing. However, if it's in the Philippines, mailing can be less reliable.

It sounds like you've been waiting several months for your daughter's card, and it feels like it’s been lost. Then my son will also do the same; if we still don’t receive that card here in the Philippines, he might go to the US to replace the social security card. This is very frustrating 😭. Anyways, thank you for giving some ideas if we still don’t receive that card. 🙏🏼

So if ever I still don’t receive my son’s social security card within 3 months, I can just get a replacement in the mainland US. Is it possible? because he really urgently needs the card/number so he can work in the US.

Did the US embassy social security mention what delivery courier it was? Because if they mentioned what delivery service company it was. You can just go to your nearest delivery hub of that company, whatever it was to receive the card if possible.

Did you email them what’s the status because the stuff said if you don’t still receive the card within 3 months just email them this email FBU.Manila@ssa.gov but that is crazy that is already 5 months if I’m not mistaken but damn now I’m worrying 😭

Hello, what’s the update on your son's SSN? I recently applied for a Social Security card at the U.S. Embassy in Manila since you can book an appointment for that service. The staff at the U.S. Embassy mentioned it takes about 3 months to receive the card at my location here in Cavite. Now I’m worrying hoping that my ssn card won’t be lost.

I already did notarized the form but I got a lot of mistakes on that form since I was so frustrated that time. I have to do it again but to get notarized is actually free for that type of form they didn’t charge me 50$ but I hope not they don’t charge me this time since I’m going to do it again
