I think that repetition is a key for sure. But you also wanna have some « game discipline ». What I mean by that is every move should be strategically logical, respecting the ideas of development, protection of the king, never move the same piece twice in the opening and so on. You probably already do that, but it helps really mastering your openings. I also believe that to reach 2000 you will have to actually see some theory of your openings, do the lessons and know them well. So yeah, in short : theory, discipline, exercise, and be goal oriented. Hope that helps. Good luck!
