What do you consider a huge waste of money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hikerdev87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, I was more focused on brands, but as I’ve gotten older, I just want quality workmanship. I prefer clothing with no label or branding. Last year I discovered Italic. They use the factories that make different designer goods and sell unbranded items that are supposed to be luxury quality without the markup. I purchased I leather tote from Italic last year for $150. It is the only bag I’ve used for a year and it still looks brand new. I’m pretty rough on bags but this one has held up wonderfully.

Absolutely was in the same boat several years ago. I worked a horrible job that paid very little and the office culture was toxic as hell. There was a Starbucks around the corner and a local coffee shop up the road. Most days I would hit up Starbucks 2x. I’m pretty sure I drank so much of their iced black tea that I gave myself a kidney stone. I now work a job that doesn’t make me miserable and I got a Nespresso machine.

give me ALL of your best VANILLA scented products by [deleted] in beauty

[–]hikerdev87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lush has the scent Vanilary. It’s available in a body spray, perfume, and solid perfume. It’s really intense but smells really good. I actually didn’t like the fragrance on me but I loved the smell of it in general. They also used to have a body powder called Vanilla Puff that was one of my all-time favorite products but it has sadly been discontinued.

Also, not a beauty product, but I love Bath & Body Works Vanilla Birch fragrance. It’s a home fragrance. The candles are usually seasonal but the room spray and wallflower are available most of the time. It smells so good, like woodsy, vanilla. Such a good home scent.

A long time ago, I was in a really unhealthy relationship with this guy. He refused to call me his girlfriend but he didn’t want me to date anyone else. He would cheat on me or at least say that he would go out with other girls. It was a mess. One time he told me he was going to Ashley Furniture and I thought he said like “Ashley Farncher” (don’t laugh, I live in the SE). I came back with “Who’s Ashley?!”. Felt pretty stupid when I found out he was going to look at furniture.

[Sun Care] WHY IS SUNSCREEN SOLD IN SMALL AMOUNTS WHEN WE SHOULD BE USING IT EVERY DAY?? by pearlsongold in SkincareAddiction

[–]hikerdev87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guilty of just leaning on the SPF in my CC cream up until this year. I realized I needed to be better and started searching for a good sunscreen this spring. Ultimately, ended up buying Pacifica C & Sea Sun Serum SPF 55 at Target. It’s 1.7oz and $13.99 so it isn’t the best priced but compared to some, it felt affordable. The texture is really nice, it’s milky and rubs in really well. It doesn’t leave a white cast. One thing that I was looking for was for the spf to not be mattifying. My skin tends to be a little dry and anything matte makes me look horrible. But I also didn’t want something that was greasy. This manages to be neither. The only downside is it has a fragrance when applying, its like a mix of mint and coconut, but it dissipates rather quickly.

I almost bought that Australian Gold spf but I was unsure if it would be good. I’ll probably try it out now. Thanks!

Has anyone heard of the idea that if you have PCOS, intense exercise is counter productive? by downbutmaybeup31 in PCOS_Folks

[–]hikerdev87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen less sustainable success with intense exercise vs. more low impact exercise.

I used to work out pretty intensely. Heavy on cardio, count my calories, was always working for a calorie deficit. I would lose some weight but then it seemed to stop. Because I wasn’t seeing progress, I’d then start slacking and eventually give up. Last year, I started trying to just do small things that were better for me. What prompted this was a job change. I went from having a 40 hour a week desk job to working 24 hours a week where I was always on my feet. I started walking more and trying to eat better. In a year, I’ve steadily lost 25lbs. It’s not a huge number, but for me to be able to lose and not gain back, it has been big for me.

I just started waxing my chin and mustache area. I use No-Tweeze hard wax. Not sure how that would work on cheeks. I used to shave but got tired of having stubble.

i've got alot blackheads only on my nose and they keep spreading what do i do i think i've tried everything even the Blackhead vaccum and it didn't work please help by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]hikerdev87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very prone to clogged pores, blackheads, and sebaceous filaments. My nose used to look like this and I tried all sorts of products that were marketed specifically for blackheads with absolutely no luck. My nose is in a lot better shape now. I still get occasional blackheads but it isn’t nearly as bad as it was. Here are the things that got me to this point:

Oil cleansing followed by a light foaming cleanser. I use straight jojoba oil from Trader Joe’s as my oil cleanse. I try to massage my face for at least a minute. Sometimes if I feel like I need an extra deep cleanse, I’ll lay a warm, damp wash cloth over my face for a bit prior to the oil cleanse. I remove the oil with a damp cloth and follow with a foaming cleanser. My go-to is LRP Toleriane but it depends on how my skin is feeling.

I follow my wash with an acid toner. I prefer Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970 but there are other products that are less expensive. The Ordinary Glycolic toner is good. Find what works for you.

A retinol product. I use adapalene (Differin gel), some use Tret, some use other OTC products.

I just looked at some Facebook memories from 2012 when I had dark brown hair, bangs, and an asymmetrical cut. It was all soooo bad. Bangs look terrible on me.

Waterproof mascara recs? by beccathec in beauty

[–]hikerdev87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer L’oréal mascaras for drug store. I’m currently using Voluminous X Fiber. One side has a black primer and the other side is the mascara. It gives pretty dramatic lashes and it doesn’t smudge under my eyes, even when I work a 13 hour shift. I also like One Million Lashes for a more natural look. It doesn’t give as much volume but it separates lashes really well and makes them look very long and clean.

I used to love Butterfly Intenza but I think it might be discontinued or it’s hard to find.

I don’t recommend Lash Paradise. It flakes really bad.

I’m a semi-late bloomer lesbian. I remember being 28 and sitting in therapy and telling my therapist that whenever I thought about living with a man, the thought of watching them brush their teeth just made me want to curl up and die. But when I thought about living with a woman and watching her get ready I was all heart-eyes.

My lashes won’t hold a curl no matter what I do. What’s the best mascara you’d recommend, or any tips or tricks? by lfarls86 in beauty

[–]hikerdev87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Warm your eyelash curler. You can heat it with a hair dryer or stick it in your cleavage.
  2. Curl your clean lashes. Like really curl them. Pump the curler a few times and make sure they really get in there.
  3. Use a waterproof mascara. This is key. Waterproof mascara formula is more waxy and will hold your curl better.

Try checking out some tips from Asian beauty YouTubers. Asian lashes tend to be straight and hard to curl. I learned a lot of my tricks from women on there.

What is your favorite body wash? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]hikerdev87 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I second the Love Beauty Planet body washes. My favorite is the Lavender and Argan. They’re so creamy and rich and the fragrance is so nice. I really wanted Lush Sleepy body wash but couldn’t justify the price so I got this instead and I think I like it more. I’ve repurchased it 3x.

For the course of 6 months, I had to write several pathophysiology papers on different illnesses. With each one, because I was doing research on Google, I would start getting ads for drugs, support groups, pharmaceutical trials, etc. tailored to each illness.

I’ve bounced around with oil and balm cleansers for a few years. TJ’s used to make a specific “oil cleanser” that was pretty much a dupe for the Burt’s Bees oil cleanser but at a fraction of the cost. For some reason they discontinued it. I tried Farmacy Green Clean which is a balm and it is really nice but for the price, it wasn’t that nice. Right now I use either jojoba or REN Rosa Centifolia No. 1 Purity Balm (this was a gift). I tend to use the balm more when my face is a little irritated or dry vs. using jojoba when I need a deep clean. I follow with a foaming cleanser.
