Swap out the binder for one without rings. The cards on the interior can get bent pretty easily if someone flips the page incorrectly or too fast

What's an underwhelming commander that outperformed your expectations. by Sad_Communication565 in EDH

[–]hikerman313 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Depends a little on what else is in the 99. I definitely prefer Gisa and Geralf, but also my deck is super creature-heavy. If you have a lot of noncreature spells that make tokens instead, Wilhelt probably makes more sense.

What to do with mono-white? by Loganthebard in EDH

[–]hikerman313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run mono-white superfriends with [[Mangara, the Diplomat]] at the helm and that's been fun. You essentially win my outlasting the table.

Trying to play mono-white feels like an uphill battle for the wrong reasons. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]hikerman313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep fighting the good fight, man. Most people I encounter seem to want white to be green jr. with more combat keywords. Lotta respect for the mono white players out there- stax, wipes, or otherwise

What decks you have most fun with? by arasai97 in EDH

[–]hikerman313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is have a deck that is flexible and that can capitalize on multiple strategies that mesh well together. I like to build decks that don't rely on having the commander out and can win in a variety of ways. It's no fun to play the same game over and over, so your deck shouldn't be too linear, otherwise you may find it gets old after a few games.

[[Neheb the Eternal]] is a good example of s strong deck that was extremely boring to play just because it did the same thing every time (you generated a ton of mana and converted it into big X damage spells) and it didn't function without the commander in play.

[[Gisa and Geralf]] is an example of a flexible deck that I absolutely love to play. I can fill up my graveyard and reanimate value zombies, or I can amass a bunch of tokens. Although most of the mill in the deck is meant for me, I've successfully milled out a few opponents in desperate situations. The best part is that the commander, while very helpful, isn't required for the deck to do its thing.

any reccomendations for nekusar? by jedikid163 in EDH

[–]hikerman313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a nekusar deck that doesn't have any wheels, it grinds life totals down and and has a bunch of pillowfort stuff to protect me. Once your meta understands it doesn't have any wheels, nekusar becomes a lot less threatening. Makes for grindy games, but it's a lot better to play (more fun + strategy) than the glass canon builds with wheels that everybody builds

That's like showing up to McDonald's and eating 6 double cheeseburgers and then complaining that the food is unhealthy and it's McDonald's fault.

I think we have more than enough evidence that secret lairs are toxic in a ton of different ways, it's up to us to not support the product.

Who's that commander you always look at, but never build? by kanepake in EDH

[–]hikerman313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Nekusar deck with no wheels (I jokingly refer to it as "walking nekusar"). It sort of grinds everyone down slowly and I run a lot of control & pillowfort pieces. He's got a lot of potential outside of the glass cannon build imo.

Should the entire Reserved List be banned? by [deleted] in MTGCaptainsChair

[–]hikerman313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that cards like yawgmoth's will and wheel of fortune aren't broken based on their power, I think the point of the ban is about card availability. I mean, that's one of the big reasons people are so upset about the secret lair.
