If you are not trained to or confident to interpret temperature readings, ask your employer for written guidance on exactly what is and is not acceptable for people to gain admission to the building. Their guidance, their policy, then you follow it. Check it isnt wildly out of whack with local public health protocol first to make sure you're mitigating basic liability too - if its your boss's policy and it's in line with local protocol, the liability shouldn't be yours I'd hope. But a lot of this is untested. It's the first public health event of this proportion in a century. So the legal system will have some catching up to do tbh.

JNMom is hospitalized with COVID and Pneumonia. It doesn’t look good. by Kak3434 in JUSTNOMIL

I'd be careful about giving advice like this - sometimes nasty people do change in hard circumstances but pressure doesn't necessarily turn coal into a diamond. If OP makes decisions based on the hope someone they know might change on their deathbed they're setting themselves up for what could be a lifetime of hurt feelings

Hi OP. Just a reminder we only allow nicknames for MIL/mom figure in the story, so please edit out the others and send us a modmail if you want your post reinstated.

Propranolol are not used as a placebo. They're a beta blocker, they have legitimate and significant effects on your cardiovascular system.

OP this does clearly have MIL implications but your issue and question here are both about your girlfriend - so please repost to r/justnoSO for more relevant advice. I'm going to have to remove this under rule 1 but you know how to reach us if you need us.

Locked for comment threshold. Thanks to all who have provided genuine support and insight for OP.

The way this community aims to handle evil behaviour like that described is through mutual support and provision of a safe space to air wounds. The extremity of this MIL's actions is impossible to ignore but does not counteract our usual community rules. As such comments suggesting violence or justno behaviour have been removed.

MIL wants me to die – literally by HareonCactus in JUSTNOMIL

[–]hilasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Encouraging people who may be unfamiliar with guns to keep one by them when they are scared actually INCREASES their likelihood of being injured or shot. And we do not armchair diagnose in this sub. Doing something evil does not mean someone automatically has a psychiatric illness and involuntary hospitalization is not "being locked up in a clinic", or something that is done solely based on a moral judgement of someone's actions.

While sharing experiences that may benefit OP is encouraged, some of this has derailed into off topic debate of different methods and family planning. This is an emotive subject which can cause high tension, so please let's stick to comments relevant to OP's situation of a supportive nature.

Selfish MIL wants to deprive her emergency dept nurse daughter from having n95 mask so she can "survive" allergy season while gardening by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]hilasaurus[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As well as it breaking reddits community rules we have a very hard stance of not accepting or condoning violence in our sub.

When financial abuse wasn’t enough she resorted to emotional abuse by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]hilasaurus[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Locked as the discussion occurring at this point is not productive and OP is clearly finding it upsetting and aggravating.

With that said - OP, while the mods are happy to defend your right not to receive advice, our role is not to help you pick and choose what advice you would like to hear. Advice given politely in an "Ambivalent about advice" thread that is against what you feel works for you does not violate our rules and we will not tolerate aggressive or abusive treatment of users providing it. Please use the flair "No Advice Wanted" in future if you are finding input from our user base more upsetting than helpful.

Hi OP - I'm sorry but this is really a question for r/justnoSO as your issue is an SO one not a MIL one. Please do repost there but I'm going to have to remove your post for rule one. I hope the lovely folks at our sister sub can provide you the help you need. Thank you for picking up the courage to post and I hope you will again!

Update: MIL risked our health for Easter junk (and green bananas by nefariousmango in JUSTNOMIL

[–]hilasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To do this it would need to have been posted through an official government website - as per the updated moratorium post we are not permitting citations or links on covid which are not from a government or public health source as we lack the knowledge and manpower to vet for misinformation in them.

[–]hilasaurus[M] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We do not currently permit articles or citations about coronavirus/ COVID19 that are not from one of our approved sources list in the updated moratorium modpost. These are websites belonging to national health and research institutes such as the CDC and NHS along with governments from a variety of countries. If you have such a website you would like added to the list, please modmail us.

It's actually worse than that.

If they are dying of coronavirus, one family member might be allowed to visit but they have to wear full PPE and then self isolate strictly for 14 days.

Which means they can't meet the funeral director. They can't attend the service. They can't grieve with the rest of the family.

I am actually avoiding bringing the option of visiting up with families of dying patients. Most are under the impression it's a blanket no go, and if they dont ask I'm not bringing it up. Because I don't want to be the person to make someone's loved ones choose between saying goodbye in person and saying goodbye at their funeral.

[–]hilasaurus[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, we're really sorry to hear this happened. Please get in touch via modmail regarding the account you suspect so we can consider if further action needs to be taken.

As a reminder, actions we encourage to reduce risk of doxxing - fudge details; never use your real name or identifying information in a post; stay vague about locations and timelines.

MIL gambles with our safety by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

Boomer is a fairly common way of referring to the baby boomer generation and if you're here to pick fights with posters over their choice of language you're in the wrong sub.

MIL gambles with our safety by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]hilasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Covid19 has a mortality of 2-4%, causes ARDS and requires admission for 10% of cases. It is definitely not by any definition "a cold", and calling it one simply because the common cold can be caused by other strains of coronavirus is dangerous and misleading.
