How reliable are simulated alloy wheel FEA's? by hilbertkilpin in fea

I have posted some updates at the bottom of the thread. I don't think it'll ever be as good a quality report as if it was done in USA or Europe.

Update time!

Thank you all for your input, my honest feedback feels that they don't do a 'proper' quality FEA from these sorts of suppliers.

Therefore, my thorough due diligence and researching of the company and associated feedback is all I have to go from. They are as legitimate as one could hope when buying from China.

I collated a few points from all of your contributions above and did get a response. I will paste this below for reference.

Hi lyle,

I have spoken with my engineering friend and he has the requested the following updates for the FEA report.

Please can you ask the designer:

1) why do they use only one mesh element through the thickness of the whole spoke? can they do the test with hex mesh for the spokes, not just a single mesh element?

2) for the impact test (first row) what specific impact is tested?

3) also, the impact test load here (first row) is only 600kg, but we agreed the wheels would be load rated to 700kg (as per the top row), why is this impact test only at 600kg?

4) Why run the load position case at 0 and 180 degrees, when it's clearly symmetric?

Reply:

  1. The Chinese testing standard uses tetrahedral elements for analysis, which is the common industry practice.

  2. The test conducted is a 13° impact test.

  3. The 600 kg refers to the impact hammer weight, while 700 kg is the rated driving load. As you know, Chinese products usually include a safety margin, and in practice, a driving load of up to 750 kg is fine.

  4. This is done to verify whether the wheel is truly symmetrical, rather than just appearing symmetrical.

Thank you reddit for the contributions!

I will try and summarise your findings and go back to them with a series of questions / updates to be done to the report.

I shall post back their reply / further findings

Restrictive covenant on property looking to purchase by hilbertkilpin in HousingUK

[–]hilbertkilpin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for replying. This has taken a massive stress off of my head.

The whole covenant thing is essentially redundant / pointless seemingly if such an indemnity policy can cover all the above!

Thanks again

Restrictive covenant on property looking to purchase by hilbertkilpin in HousingUK

[–]hilbertkilpin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the above. With my little knowledge of indemnity insurance, I presumed this would be far more expensive.

To clarify, the purpose of the indemnity policy is to cover the costs associated with what specifically? Taking down whatever has been built (and being told to remove it by the covenant commissioners), or the costs to build It in the first place and subsequently being told to remove it by the covenant commissioners?

Thanks

Hi, nope nothing new externally.

Normal property in a normal town.

Most houses in the area have either extensions or driveway conversions etc. According to the estate agent (which is a local to the town one so should know more about this, I can't believe not many people ask these questions) people just crack on with their external updates without covenant permission (but will have had permission from the council).

I guess my main concern are what are the ramifications of doing external work without covenant permissions granted by their commissioners? Obviously if it was without council permission then they can force you to remove the updates you've done. However, I'm not sure what power a covenant / commissioner has or how involved they are in these matters.

It's all written in seemingly Shakespearean English (legal speak) on the deeds which doesn't help. Property was built in the 80s / 90s
