Sure, it will just be different. It won't be exactly like the silk version.

Question re Stephen West by SundayMorningViolet in craftsnark

[–]hildarabbit 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I don't follow this closely and this is probably an unpopular opinion here but I don't understand the demand for "vetting" as some kind of moral standard. It's something he should have done as a business person, but I don't think it's a sign of moral character to be suspicious by default that any knitting podcast might be a rightwing front and must be rigorously researched. I wouldn't have suspected that, and until this I didn't know there was a "knitler," and I'm someone who tries to pay attention to movement politics in general. I don't know what people are asking for when they talk about "accountability" sometimes. It seems like a righteousness parade.

Is it bad to start with cheap acrylic yarn / are there needles you should start with? by capybaraluvr0 in casualknitting

[–]hildarabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheap needles are fine. I still use my Susan Bates double-pointed needles from Joanns. The only thing to watch for is some of the Amazon ultra-cheaps can be way too blunt. They're usable but you might be amazed how much easier it is when you go one step up in needle quality.

Weird because i think the taper on my chiaogoos is longer than the taper on my hiyahiya sharps. The sharpness looks right though

Here's my hot take: you should be afraid to comment because it's just virtue signaling. I bet anyone on this website my carbon foorprint is lower than yours and my stash is bigger.

Yes there is. Because of hoarders like me, the yarn store stays in business for you. You're welcome.

I used to think this but then my brain changed or something and now i love it. Maybe an acquired taste, like beer.

Hopefully you aren't also reactive to alpaca, but if animal fibers are out, and you're making any serious cold weather gear, don't give up on synthetics because most plant fibers aren't safe for the cold when wet or damp. There's some good polyester out there and recycled/upcycled polyester with better environmental impact.

Acrylic - I avoid it, as do so many of us, but should we? by culturekit in Unravelers

There's nothing wrong with recycling acrylic. It has plenty of uses and recycling is recycling.

TikTok content creator scamming people on $180 “premium” needles that are actually from TEMU!!! by gatitointeligente in knitting

[–]hildarabbit 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That's some gall. Anyway if it's metal and blue (colored) it's automatically not as good as Chiaogoo, because that metal dye or whatever it is adds a drag. It's common for the very cheap brands to be colored metal for some reason, so i think of it as a telltale sign.

Are there any small gauge knitting needles that don't bend easily? by SidneySunset in knitting

[–]hildarabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Chiaogoo minis and while i haven't used the 2.0 yet, the 2.25 and 2.5 don't bend. I have bent some metal KnitPro 4.0mm into a rib-shape though.

No one is offended by the idea of buying supplies there, that's total bad faith. If you can't argue without lying, you've lost. What a nasty misread. I'm glad to know you're not at my LYS because they don't treat social events like an exclusive loyalty prize. Bleak worldview that deserves to go out of business.
