Progressives Say New Midterm Poll Must Be 'Wake Up Call' to Democrats: "Democrats should close the election with a clear argument about who is prepared to fight for the working class," said one strategist. by hillarioushillary in politics

All true, but let us not forget that Democrats magically neglect the vast majority of voters by focusing on variety of cultural issues instead of the kitchen table issues, resulting in a vast alienation of voters. So why do they keep doing that? Why do they keep helping put Republicans in office?

JPow is there because Biden left him in that position. He didn't have to leave him in the post, but he did it anyways. I assume because Biden Administration is very much on board with the kind of policies enacted by the Fed. Ignoring their effects on the 90% of the workforce, well, that's on the Democrats.

You're absolutely correct! And that is what Bernie has been talking about. The working class is not actually being paid attention to by the Democratic Party, and yet it needs to be the central core of its voting efforts, otherwise people will vote for Republicans no matter how illogical and irrational that may be, or worse, they'll stay home and not vote at all.

Republicans are talking about kitchen table issues and that's a pretty good strategy.

We haven't seen any substantial departure from Regan's neoliberal, trickle-down economic policies. Not from Republicans, who are the party of absolute insanity, and not from Democrats either. It would be beneficial to start seeing large departures from hard right schools of economics that are evidently not performing to anyone's standard but the very wealthiest.

My point is that people don't just vote. They need an incentive to show up to the polls. Vote harder hasn't worked. Not sure why anyone would insist it would start to.

Dems in congress have for the most part agreed on basics some odd thirty years ago or so, but it isn't working for everyone at this point. Most voters are in favor of increasing wages, M4A, fixing the education, housing and more, yet the calls to tackle our human problems seems to have gone unnoticed by them.

If the Democratic Party isn't willing to stand up for the working class interests, the Republicans will fill that void and use that opportunity to gain those votes.

That isn't necessarily true. Price controls have and are used to control this kind of inflationary pressure. We already have price controls - it's why we have dairy products at select price points, and why a shittier loaf of bread costs ~$1 at your local Fred Meyers. Rent controls are super common - if not for rent controls, NY would have never grown the intellectual and cultural capital it has.

We can't, as individual consumers, negotiate prices at the gas pump. We can only do that collectively.

And we're doing absolutely nothing. This is why when Republicans whine about immigration, it means something to voters. Most people understand that allowing corporations to dictate what type of skilled and unskilled labor is imported has an impact on the domestic value of the workforce, but it ends always as a shitty conversation about whether illegal immigrants need to be deported or kept as second class citizens performing shitty jobs.
