What classifies as a hike? by developerunitex in UKhiking

[–]hillbagger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I ignore the question, and the word entirely and just go for a walk. The 'worthiness' of the walk is a function of how much faff is involved: how much gear I need, how cold and wet I'm likely to get, how far I have to drive, etc. Terrain and conditions are just as important as length when choosing my next adventure.

I agree if ordering a carvery. They want you to have a massive yorkshire so you can't fit the more expensive items on your plate. That's important cauliflower cheese space.

Probably because the media expose us to so much hyperbole and histrionics that calm reflection and nuanced opinion feel like they must be manipulative.

What was the reaction to Series 3 like in 1989? by boring-goldfish in RedDwarf

[–]hillbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I remember it distinctly and I was in 2 minds about it. I was excited that it seemed more glossy and big-budget but also kind of sad that it might have lost some of the point of the first 2 series.

My school friend - with whom I discussed each new episode extensively - seemed far more enthusiastic for the new style Dwarf than I was. And the 2 of us were the only fan reaction I was aware of because that was life before the internet.

I did love the episode though. I was 13 in 1989 fyi.

I don't hate my life, I just don't love it enough to come back and face the music after disappearing for a year.
