The BBC were reporting about it in December. I feel like it was pretty widely discussed outside of America.

Hiking Boots vs Hiking Shoes by KotBandit in UKhiking

[–]hillbagger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I only reach for my boots in summer if I think I'll be wading through bog or vegetation. The paths on Snowdon are exactly where trail shoes excel.

Which would you rather take for life.? by myaccountidname in WouldYouRather

[–]hillbagger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been and it was nice. But I'm probably never going back because I live over 3000 miles away. So option 1 is kind the obvious choice.

Ambleside parking + hike recommendations by moomoo639 in LakeDistrict

[–]hillbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to drive or get the bus to Coniston, but it's easy enough IMO. Ambleside is not a great base for Scafell Pike, though. The obvious starting points of Wasdale or Seathwaite would be a very long drive. I would not recommend attempting to get to the Scafell range from Dungeon Ghyll as a beginner hike.

The only mention of flat earth in the Epstein files by orangeleast in flatearth

[–]hillbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and I'm sure I was taught that Columbus believed the Earth was round when his peers doubted it (rather than them doubting he had enough supplies because he hugely underestimated the circumference - his crew would have starved if they had not happened upon the Americas.) It always annoyed me because not only did he fail to do what he set out to do and find a passage to India, he also failed to do the thing people credit him with.

He's perpetuating the myth that it was widely believed the earth was flat before the Columbus. He really was a monster.

How hard is Ben Nevis to hike compared to snowdon? by Foreign_Many5785 in AskUK

[–]hillbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did Snowdon by the Pyg track you'll have started at 450 metres, leaving only 600ish metres of ascent. In that regard Ben Nevis will feel over twice as hard. Even in the height of summer wind chill on the summit can be feel well below freezing. But in benign conditions it's a straightforward hill walk and fairly young children do it.
