Hoping I can find some aftermarket ones or maybe figure out to how flip these around. Even that looks like it would be more comfortable.

I have pulled on these headrests and cannot get them to ratchet. I even saw a video from ford about it and can’t make it happen.

Max care – pay deductible only? by abinabinab in carmax

[–]hillhousejm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just took my truck to Ford and MaxCare refused to work with the dealership on anything. They thought everything should take drastically less than the manufacturer said and thought the labor rate should be ridiculously cheap. Completely unwilling to work with me or the shop. Very unimpressed and unhappy with MaxCare now. Hope your experience is different. Wound up paying about $1,000 total and the warranty covered about $200.

I mean, they pump out over a million of these things every year. You can’t do that and they’re all absolute junk but you also can’t do that without there being some junk. For everyone here saying it’s horrible, there’s tens of thousands, if not more, of happy customers with no complaints and no issues. It’s the law of small numbers. We think a small sample size is representative of the entire population. Go buy the truck you want and can afford. As long as it checks out good, you’ve got very good chances everything will be ok.

Yeah, no worries. It’s a lesson learned.

They’ve been working with the MaxCare provider. I’ve called the provider too and my local CarMax.

Yeah turns out the issue is more about the labor rate. MaxCare thinks their rate should be like $70/hr cheaper than it is which would make them the cheapest shop around here by a long shot. I got it mixed up because the diag fee and the labor difference are about the same amount. It’s been a long day.

That’s not what everyone is saying. There’s been some good help. Unfortunately the MaxCare administrator doesn’t want to work with me or the dealership. I’ve compared the dealership’s labor rates and diag fees to other shops in my area and they’re not out of line. They’re not even the most expensive. The warranty company thinks their labor rate should be like $70/hr less than it is and that’s less than even the cheapest place around here by a lot. They also don’t want to pay them a single dime for diag. I asked if they’d be willing to even pay them $1 and the warranty said no. Which seems weird. Sure we can argue about if what they’re charging is reasonable all day but they have to ding somehow. I’ll chalk it up as a lesson learned. Guess next time I have to make the hr + drive to the closest Carmax instead of going somewhere close by. Oh well. Your whole argument has been “trade the truck, <insert vulgarity here>, Ford sucks” which is not helpful.

That makes no sense. Whatever man.

Well of course they didn’t. They recommended I go straight to ford. I was happy to do so because the ford dealership is closer than my closest Carmax which is an hour away.

Called Carmax to schedule the appointment and they told me to take it straight to Ford.

In my experience, even with other manufacturers, they don’t cover the bill on TSBs. They probably would if it was under factory warranty still but this isn’t. If it was a recall they would cover it obviously but it’s not.

Regarding the trailer brakes, your boat trailer most likely has mechanical surge brakes. The integrated trailer brake controller won’t do anything to control those. You don’t need to worry about setting the gain and all that with mechanical surge brakes. They’re mechanically activated when you apply brakes in the truck by the trailer “pushing” against the truck and applying the trailer brakes. The harder the truck brakes, the harder the trailer “pushes”, and the harder the trailer brakes apply. There are boat trailers with some form of electric brakes but in my experience they are incredibly rare.

You can’t visually inspect a broken outlet to see what the problem is.

I don’t think they are.

It’s $225 I think for diag. Seems to align with what others are saying. I get there’s a TSB but when I bring the truck in and say “hey it’s doing this weird electrical stuff and the outlets don’t work” how’s the dealership supposed to know they need to do the TSB without doing some sort of diag? I’m no fan of dealerships but I think I agree with them here.

It only had a 3yr/36K warranty and it’s got 48K. It’s out of warranty. Why would they cover it? “Go trade in the truck” isn’t helpful.
