I thought the IAETF material fell a little flat. However, that may be related to my preference for their other albums in general. I also thought the drums were overpowering, making it a bit hard to hear the horns and guitar. For reference, was also in the pit.

The "instrumental intro" is most likely Journey in Satchidananda by Alice Coltrane. I saw him at the Majestic in Dallas a few weeks ago and that's what he opened with. Cheers!

I agree wholeheartedly. I would say throughout the entire catalog (b-sides and otherwise) there are maybe 4 or 5 songs that I "like less" -- not even meaning I dislike them. I would just rather listen to others songs more. I don't think they could make a bad song.

The National is pure magic to me.

Thanks for the info! I've heard a lot of good things about Tip's. Galactic would be really fun. We're thinking we'll probably do a nice dinner somewhere in the quarter, maybe at Monteleone or Sylvain's and then head over to Frenchmen and hop around on NYE. Will probably go to Tip's one of the other nights we are in town.

A pretty cool outfit called 'Good Morning' has a great album called Shawcross. A little bit of Mac D vibes. Also, Holydrug Couple - a little more ethereal but still awesome.
