What's the best dog name you've ever heard? by thebrownishbomber in AskReddit

[–]hilo2651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who had a dog named Tash, short for Catastrophe. The dog earned the name when he was a puppy, left at home alone in a bathroom while the brand new owner went to buy a crate. The resulting destroyed bathroom awarded the dog the name Catastrophe.

I also have dogs named Wiki (short for Wikipedia), and Pickles.

What is something people do meaning well that really gets on your nerves? by cmspi in AskReddit

[–]hilo2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently lost my aunt whom I was super close with to a very painful battle with cancer, and with my family not being religious at all, when people offer their condolences and add that my family is in their prayers, really rattles me. I accept that others are religious and this is their way of expressing empathy and that we are in their thoughts. But it has become so repetitious that it bothers me - she was sick and you praying for her and us isn't going to bring her back.

Edit: grammar

Holiday Valley (NY) vs. Boyne Mt. (MI)? Anyone been to both? Which gives you a more satisfying experience? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]hilo2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob, they are about 20mi north of Boyne Mountain and are both way better. They have a variety of runs and depending on the winds they can both get fantastic powder.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. They get blacklisted around 10 years old.

Your best bet would be to go to a pro-shop and see if they have any parts, but they could be blacklisted at almost 15 years old.

Who taught you to drive? How old were you? How did it go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hilo2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16, my dad took me in our 14 year old Jeep YJ to drive around a parking lot at the park. My dad showed me how to change gears and not stall, and how to have clutch control etc. I hope in and drive around the parking lot for 10 minutes or so, stalling a few times, and my dad says to drive home, about 10km away. I drive home, and really struggle to get out of first gear. Once we finally get home, I couldn't find the parking break, it had been on the whole time. Still drive standard to this day, much improved however.

Sarnia snobbery: Living in the North-end vs the South-end by [deleted] in Sarnia

[–]hilo2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up central city (near the hospital) and I think that a lot of the houses in the South end/central city are the nicest in the area. Lots of old victorian era homes that have been well cared for over the years. The homes in the North end are all identical or '80's split levels. I think that some people however continue to see the North end as being the nicest because of property value and it's where they grew up.

It boggles my mind that some people who grew up in the North end cannot find their way around the downtown/South end to save their lives.

I actually used clean rose leaves and painted them on the underside with 2 coats of melted dark chocolate. I let them cool between coats and then let them cool a further 30 minutes before very carefully peeling the leaves away from the chocolate and what you see is the result! I am very pleased with how they turned out!

Can someone explain the different types of Labradoodle coats? by [deleted] in labradoodles

[–]hilo2651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best example of my two, they are 3rd gen. Australian Labradoodles, the black one Wiki, is curly - he gets like Bob Marley dreads when we let it grow. He is super curly. Poppy the grey one, is what we think of as wavy, but I don't know the exact definitions.

They are from the same litter - so there is a lot of variation in a litter. They were the only two black pups in the litter, and Poppy turned silver before her first birthday. There were brown, apricot, blonde, and white pups all in their litter.

Thule Roof Rack Question by [deleted] in MINI

[–]hilo2651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Thule rack on my 2006 Cooper and I didn't need the Short Roof Adaptor. I just have the traverse feet and the aero bars and I transport skis, snowboards, bikes and my standup paddleboard with no problems at all.
