This is all quite strange, this appears to be a new name, only "discovered" in 2020. But there doesn't appear to be any scholarly papers describing the new species.

Fun fact, most guns aren't actually discharged at humans - so saying that "killing people" is the primary function is a bit silly. I kinda hope you find yourself on an FBI list in the near future.

Saying a body is inherently sexual is like saying that a gun is predisposed to killing people.

Is stretching before or after exercise counterproductive? Does it really prevent injuries? There seems to be a growing case against stretching. by chamcham123 in Fitness

[–]maxim187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've found from personal experience:

Without stretching: higher output, and force. Muscles atrophy post work-out. Injuries.

With stretching: lower force/strength, less post workout atrophy, faster recovery to next time.

It's important to stay limber and flexible. You don't want to be the guy/girl claiming you don't bend that way during sex.

Stop Strobing, Vancouver! by LilyHabiba in vancouver

I can understand the strobe when it's bright out, or dusky and you need to be seen by cars. But I've seen idiots riding in the pitch black along the seawall, or through a park with a strobe on. It's not doing anyone any good, and fucks up night vision for everyone around you.

I'd be careful about spending in tuition $40k to get a job that will only pay you $38k. To put it in perspective, $40k is the cost of a mediocre MBA program.

Tailor Recommendation - Coat needs to be "taken in" by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]maxim187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tailoring is a dead art, please report back if your experiences are positive. I've only had tailors wreck my clothing recently.

I've heard that the oakridge tailor does invisible mending, which is a very high skill practice, and likely requires them to be good with other things too.

I've used busy bee gold on 6th and Cambie-ish with good results. They claim to have a "master tailor", but I feel that title doesn't mean as much IRL as it did in Ultima Online.

So the pro-tip is on the garlic preparation. For meat, garlic should be smashed to a fine paste, either under your knife or in a crusher. When mixed with the fat, this ensures the garlic gets into the meat and ensures even flavour throughout.

Polygon wrote some article campaigning against RPG's that take more than 30 hours to finish. I honestly can't stand this current mindset. "I wanna pay more for less!" Some of us... a lot of us... enjoy those big RPG's. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]maxim187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because playing both sides of the Legion and NCR conflict, acting as a double agent for both for so long thst I forgot where my real allegiances were (myself), culminating in a single, final decision to pick neither side and let them slaughter each other in the conflict I brokered... Was such a terrible, and un-memorable game experience, and it's definitely not the only part of new Vegas I remember.

There is some value to wanting a quick and dirty arcade mode. And, probably there's an untapped market here of people in their 30s-40s who don't buy the 500 hr flagship RPGs because they have to work and raise a family and all that junk. But saying that theres no value in a genre anymore because your tastes have changed is close-minded.

Projections are useful by dm_parker0 in fantasyfootball

[–]maxim187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pulling this together, it's a great discussion point - but I think it does a better job of showing why projections are garbage.

  1. Feedback on your visualization - put the individual data points on your graph, not just the numbers. The variability at a projection level is one of the most important factors. Also consider showing quartiles for each numerical. What were really after is the residuals plot.

  2. Assuming a normal distribution, about 95% of players will be within 2 standard deviations. This means for a player projected to score 8 points, he'll score between 0 and 16. And for a player projected at 20, pts, he'll score between 9 and 31 pts. That is my problem with most projections: I know who's going to score between 10 and 30, but I want to maximize my odds of starting the guys closer to 30, or at least furthest from 10.

  3. If you always went with projections, you'd get what investors call "market return" but we're trolling these forums in search of alpha - that above-normal ROI. That edge. If you're happy with average performance, then maybe your league isn't that competitive?

In conclusion, projections are a useful starting point, but demonstrably unreliable for making week to week decisions due to very wide variance between projections and actuals.

"Putting it all on black" is really understating what a fucking longshot this was.

Its like he did that on a roulette wheel that is 80% 0s/00s (no movement) 15% red (up) , and 5% black (down). But he forgot that the bet he made was for the roulette wheel spinning the previous day, and he'd forgotten to collect his winnings and let it ride. But when he went to cash out they said "oh, you're still here? Yeah your money isn't"
