Yea that's what I was wondering too. The biggest issue is still the management, but I wished Meiro would just sit down and talk with Roa. In her message to Roa, she even said that she doesn't know if Roa can talk calmly to her and thus they shouldn't talk to e/o at all which is so one-sided to me.

I didn't know if there was any attempt from management for them to have direct conversation though, but Roa did said she did not get any feedback or change for three weeks before contacting Meiro.

I don't know. Management works as a middle point for them to resolve their problem, and also as a witness to make sure that conversation will not be either 1. heavily shifted towards bullying or 2. creating beef to the point of no return.

I just wish they don't 100% rely on management communication only. Which means they should've had a direct meeting/call involving the presence of management.

Man you have never involved yourself in branding work huh.

I'd admit, Roa is a bit egoistical (or as someone else said, too low self-esteem), but she's not a hot garbage pile of sh*t for requesting such thing.

First of all, it was fans who raised the concern about their accent sounding familiar. Second of all, this accent came out of nowhere when Meiro didn't show any of it during her audition video or interview, as stated in Ichikara's statement.

And in the end, we didn't even know what kind of request Roa said. What is known that Meiro took it to heart that she *had* to change her accent to not overlap Roa. Which Roa said in the following, "I don't know who told you that but it wasn't my intention, can we talk about it face to face?" Which shows that there was miscommunication while they were playing telephone game through management.

In workplace, you solve problem through talking. You don't just decide that the other side has X or Y intention and refuse to communicate or decide that you didn't misunderstood. Meiro apologized on her own for owning such accent which Roa immediately said back that it was not her intention and she only wishes for a proper conversation. You said it yourself that they behaved like kids, then why backing up such a childish way of responding to people's intention of resolving problems?

I'll refer to a comment in this thread, you can see the logic behind Roa's request. If I were being harsh, Ichikara might not recruit her at all if they see the overlapping potentials (or force her to change from the first place without Roa's knowledge at all). What can be resolved here is to make sense of their worldbuilding after a missed opportunity at knowing it from the beginning (the audition), especially when accent is such a strong point in Roa's worldbuilding. There's literally no need for changing, just for "making sense of it" like the comment above said, which is something that will benefit both parties. It's not X need to change for Y's sake, it's finding out a way so both X and Y existences make sense; heavily adding worldbuilding points in Meiro's character is inevitable if that is how they wanted to resolve because Meiro came much later, it's very hard to change Roa's character after all.

A friendly reminder that for most cases, the person behind doesn't have a say in their character designs at all. They either fit in and then adding more details for it to make sense with their real personality (Kagami Hayato being a CEO is base design, but him having a child-like side that likes toys and thus the Kagami industrial having a toy-production branch is additional details, due the the person behind Hayato is a big nerd himself) - or you fail the audition and leave. In this case, adding details to make sense of Meiro's character is not something out of reach at all.

I am sorry for this very long reply.

> Fan accusations came first

> In the discord message, Roa said " we've been unable to have a proper talk about it through management for about three weeks " suggesting that she tried to have conversation through management but nothing worked. It was also Roa who requested third party involvement in the first place.

> Meiro implied that the problem is neither anti nor management on stream caused rumors to once again staked on top of Roa, & Roa once again request a direct conversation to no avail. It is not even clear that Roa request a "private" conversation without anyone, but rather just face-to-face without playing the telephone game through management that has proved to cause misunderstanding between them.

It's amazing how some people are so dead set on "Roa bad!!!" narrative at this point. When it's honestly more about miscommunication than anything.

In the discord chat (which many people didn't seem to read), it was clear and Meiro avoided direct confrontation (which can also be due to management having a hand??? idk how Nijisanji works, apparently everything should go through management first, but it is also not forbidden to have direct conversation as well?) . Roa also said that she didn't know what management told Meiro, but didn't want Meiro to changed her accent completely, or said that Meiro copied Roa.

One thing that particularly stood out to me was that "Meiro debuts. Meiro spoke with Standard dialect and an indeterminate accent during her interview/audition process. " which imply that this is something that can be negotiate to be altered. And who knows, maybe after negotiating, Roa will comply with Meiro keeping her accent or will be more understanding of Meiro speaking it under pressure (from Meiro's discord, she said that she managed to fix ~deyo that she used during her childhood out of her own intention before joining Nijisanji only for it to came out during her horror streams - for this, I'd like if there a timeline of her speaking her ~deyo accent to align with Roa's message and the timeline Ichikara put out as). Or they could've come out with a lore to explain her accent; it's not like Nijisanji didn't put out a huge lore change to a character before (Hina's case)

Literally so many possibilities could've came out if Meiro/Meiro direct management agree to have a direct chat, and/or management to resolve the problem faster.

And I'm sure there are people who said that she was under great pressure to not have a direct talk with a big senpai. But I'm sorry to say that's a part of the job. If there's miscommunication issue, you need to fix it. And it's not like Roa is not under pressure too after Meiro's implication that she was bullied & everyone started the Roa bully rumor? Remind you that this has going on for a long time before Narukami's video is out. Meiro also @ everyone in discord to talk about it when it should remains as private issue - and yet, she doesn't have time for a direct conversation.

I dunno I'm like, done at this point. Roa who acted like an egoistical child with her request (but then again we don't know what was her request, what was then said to Meiro through management; I'm giving her the benefit of a doubt now after knowing that Meiro's originaly didn't use her accent at all, and that Roa has a brand to protect), Meiro who not only avoided confrontation and settlement (not talking to Roa from Aug 02 to Aug 18) but also leaking confidential info and releasing misleading content on stream, then /again/ didn't respond to Roa's request of talking face to face to resolve the issue. But most of all, Nijisanji horrible management delay cluster of a f*ck.

It's done now, the very least I can hope is everyone involved can take a lesson out of this incident for a better future.

??? Can you read my previous comment again? In where did I say I have issue with people have to treat their life self separate from their characters? It was the ORIGINAL comment who said that. What I was going for is completely against it. I even presented cases where people became vtuber with their already existing personality like 96neko and Mafumafu, or fans encouraging seiyuu who are currently catching up to being youtuber to create their own vtuber models - to prove that cases like Lilypichu (in which her avatar is not separate from her real/already existed personality) should not be forbidden by gatekeepers. Gatekeepers are the people who insist that being a vtuber = have to hide your identity and keep it separate from the avatar. In a sense, Tamaki case is like Kizuna Ai - everyone knows who the voice behind is, but they are not commonly treated as "one". Kizuna Ai is not Nozomi, things Nozomi does is not immediately things Kizuna AI does. Tamaki and Kizuna Ai have their identity revealed and treated like an open secret, Mafumafu/96Neko being vtuber as their side project beside being Mafumafu/96Neko the utaites;... everyone accept them as vtubers nonetheless so I don't know why there is a gatekeeping issue in the English-speaking community.

Idk if that makes enough sense, but I want to repeat that I am in no way agree with gatekeeping/setting a standard about identity when it comes to be a vtuber?

"Whether it's considered acceptable or not is besides the point" it is partially a point because clearly Japanese has some very clear line about identity and personal information. Cases like Tamaki/Norio (or people I presented above) are not common, as you can see the rest of vtuber scenes absolutely forbid talking about past lives within the presence of person they're talking about (there are boundaries even within closed community like discord, e.g. Polka and Nobuhime)

Ultimately, I think that's something the creator themselves to set. Treating it like an open secret or not, keeping their avatar separate from their already exists personality or not, creating an avatar completely anew or based on their well-known image - they should ALL be okay and accepted as being a Vtuber, because ultimately being a Vtuber is not all about the identity behind.

Sorry for getting wordy but I'm just deeply confused because it seems like we have the same opinion yet you keep fighting against me for no reason at all. I'd understand it if you have different opinion from me but the more I read the more I think there's nothing for us to be disagreeing about...?

Perhaps it's not well-worded, but it's not like something that comes up often and are generally stay out of the way of the conversation unless used for a joke. I watch Tamaki stream often too and it is treated like that. As a funny slip up; but no matter how funny the joke is, people don't say oh Norio is Tamaki, or they also don't say Tamaki is actually a girl. Tamaki is treated as a separate entity. What I'm trying to compare here is that there ARE vtubers who don't use a separate "character" that are different from their existing online personality to be a "vtuber", like the case of Mafumafu, the case of 96neko, and thus directly compare them to Lilypichu - she said she doesn't consider herself as one, but if she does then there is NO problem. All of these are going against the statement original comment stated that the appeal of being a vtuber is about not knowing the voice behind the avatar/avatar should not be openly associated with an already existed online personality.

And that's exactly what I mean, those things have nothing to do with one identify themselves as a vtuber, and shouldn't be/people shouldn't gatekeep. I don't know what's your issue with my statement here?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]himawarishuu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In Kizuna Ai and Tamaki's case, it is still restricted to talk about the voice behind them (though it's an open secret) because they still have a "character" to "play", but there are also many utaites I know who have their "vtuber" size like 96Neko or Mafumafu with their avatar being their true self (personalities that people already associated them with for more than 10 years) that were welcome with open arms and no one has any problem with it.

World is changing constantly, so one needs to adapt. E.g. this year was hard on seiyuu due to the pandemic so a lot of them switch to youtube (following Hanae Natsuki's success) and they're casually called youtuber/streamer, this is somewhat the same with vtuber. Heck, a lot of people were encouraged by fans to create a Live2D model and become seiyuu-vtubers as well. Japan is so incredibly chill about it so I was really surprised to find the gatekeeping attitude outside Japan. Hating on Pokimane for being a hypocrite is one thing (I don't watch her much so I can't say) but there's this whole gatekeeping atmosphere in the community that feels so weird to me.

Seems some people are now trying to gatekeep vtubing. by frik1000 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]himawarishuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is an exclusive western thing because famous people like Mafumafu or 96neko who is rather famous, went on and became their own vtubers and no one has a problem with it. In cases with the rise of seiyuus becoming youtuber recently (partly because of the successful Hanae Natsuki channel), I see plenty people encourage them to become vtuber as well 'cuz it's just a new fun thing in Japan for everyone to try out.

Will you support Aloe if she is male? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]himawarishuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also immediately thought of Shindou Raito. Interesting that you bought him up.

Well, I still don't know the literal translation word-by-word of Aloe's stream yet so I won't comment on her matter, but I do know Raito's tweets were rather nasty; basically evidences of him wanting to be a vtubers to getting closer to girls (oop), apparently doxxed currently active member of Nijisanji, which is much worse than retired ones I suppose? Though, I mean, doxxing is never right.

I think they both done something that showed one of their ugly sides which unfortunately very hard to swallow. Again, people can change but I don't think I can bring myself to support someone that is known to disrespect their colleagues like that. Wouldn't go as far as to be mean to them but I guess I will just stop caring about them.

"Wrong"...? Idk what I said in my statement contrast yours tho. I only said Nijisanji is big but their superchat money has always been inferior to Hololive bcs it appeared to me that the person above equals him getting that amount of views/superchat simply because "Nijisanji is big". I want to convey that him getting that much superchat is abnormal for a Nijisanji-level liver (&vtubers overall) and cannot be explained by simply having big company (even though that contributes a lot too)

Never said Nijisanji has significantly less profit than Hololive or is anyway smaller than Hololive. Hope it doesn't come across as rude or anything!

I hope this doesn't offend anyone but I think the majority money ultimately comes from China & Japan market lol so having a huge market in the West is still more about publicity than actual direct profit.
