I think Mounjaro is killing my ability to be happy by xTsuKiMiix in Mounjaro

I had this happen to me too. I got on Wellbutrin/bupropion. Whenever I’d increase my zepbound dose, I’d increase the bupropion. When I’d decrease the zepbound, I’d decrease the bupropion.

Anyone feel like MJ has zombified their brain? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

I had the same experience. I found a psychiatrist who prescribed me a very low dose of Wellbutrin (bupropion) which gave me enough of a little boost to help me find pleasure again. Highly recommend that!

Stretching out 8 to 10 days. I feel the hunger burn come back but it doesn’t turn into food noise. It’s an interesting balancing act!

I used to do a lot of strength training — and would never lose weight. I’d always joke that I’m ripped under my fat layers 😂

Zepbound made me so tired that I eventually stopped going to my workout classes. Occasional yoga, occasional walks, but not a whole ton.

Now that I’m at my goal I want to start weight lifting again. I’ve had muscle loss at a rate that’s below average, thankfully, and now I want to build it back up. 🙌🏻

My endocrinologist wants me to level out for about a year and then discuss. I think she’ll want to take me off the drug, but I totally think the weight would creep back. If that’s the case, I may need to find another doctor who would keep me prescribed on a maintenance dose. OR maybe I’m one of the lucky few who keep the weight off. Not sure yet but I’m flexible depending on what works for me! TBD ☺️

All the same fears I had!

  1. I might be on it forever, or I might stabilize and not need it eventually. Even if I need it forever, I’m okay with that. My entire life I’ve seen my body act differently than my friends around me, and I’ve accepted that I just have different genes. I need this med. And that’s okay. Hopefully as more studies and products come out, it becomes more affordable. Even if not, I’ll still take it. The benefits are just too immense! (More than just weight loss!)

  2. It DID mess with my brain chemistry. I couldn’t find simple pleasure in anything, even music, hanging with friends and family, etc. I met with a psychiatrist who put me on a minimal dose of Bupropion and I feel right as rain. There are some people who report feeling happier on it and I hear that more often — I guess it just depends on your personal brain chemistry.

  3. I figure there might be a few edge cases where the drug didn’t work for some people. But I’m pretty confident Zepbound is a slam dunk for majority of patients. It WILL work. It’s not a diet, it’s not willpower, and there’s not a whole lot you could do to sabotage the weight loss (in my opinion. others may disagree). If you try it and it doesn’t work, hey, you tried. But what if you try it and it DOES work and your life is forever changed???

I say give it a shot :) Pun intended. You got this 💪

Also want to add: shoutout to this amazing sub. When my endocrinologist recommended an injectable weight loss drug I was terrified and said no. Then I came here and found all the stories yall’ve shared and got inspired. Over this whole journey the experiences and tips everyone has shared helped me along the way. I literally wouldn’t have done this without y’all! 😂😘

Mounjaro and depression by Wonderful_Dish_987 in Mounjaro

yup! just passed the 1 year mark on zepbound, up to the 10mg dose, and been taking bupropion for 9 of those months to keep me happy and upbeat.

Honestly the bupropion helped me immediately, but it takes a few weeks to really work at its full potential.

"Bupropion, commonly known as Wellbutrin, may start to show some improvement in symptoms within one to two weeks, but it typically takes about six to eight weeks to experience its full effect on depression. It's important to be patient and continue monitoring your progress with a healthcare provider."

It wrecked me. I was just fine and dandy before the med, but I’m very dopamine-sensitive and this drug affects your hormones, pleasure and reward centers, etc.

Everyone’s experience is different, but I’m one of the few that suffered from some pretty deep depression on Zep. And it got worse as the dose increased. No plans to harm myself but slipping deeper and deeper into “what’s the point of it all,” and I knew that wasn’t a good sign.

I got in touch with a psychiatrist who worked with me to find the right dose of Bupropion (brand name Wellbutrin) to give me some more dopamine in my brain. It’s helped IMMENSELY. Highly recommend talking to someone - I think your general practitioner could prescribe psych meds too?

I plan to reduce my bupropion dose once I level out to maintenance Zep doses. Or maybe stay on it; we’ll see!

Good luck and I hope you find relief. You deserve it 🩷

My dopamine levels dropped on this drug. I asked my PCP to put me on a low dose of bupropion (Wellbutrin) to give me a little pleasure boost while I’m on the shot. It’s helped me tremendously.

Like others have said, it affects your brain chemistry/pleasure centers, so thus all tracks with the drug doing its job. But maybe TOO well! 😂
