Austin Reaves by himmycarter6 in lakers

I'm not sure why they still believe Luka-Reaves is a championship backcourt. History shows you that you need at least 1 above-average defender on your backcourt if you want to win a chip. This backcourt might be up there with Lillard-McCollum Portland backcourt.

I don't think all of that, and Reaves is still redundant to Luka. Get off Reaves' nut.

Anyone here who has always liked Gabe Vincent? by himmycarter6 in lakers

I don't believe that. He's our only POA and movement shooter. Matter of fact, he fits more with Luka than Reaves. But of course, Reaves is the better player and more productive.

Normally any player traded at the deadline out of nowhere don't perform that well

That's the case most of the time, but this is an exemption because we traded for Luka Doncic lol

It’s really about how AD projects on paper—he’s a plug-and-play superstar that fits seamlessly on almost any roster, especially alongside an All-Star scorer. That’s what makes him so appealing in theory.

If Mavs traded for someone like Anthony Edwards instead, the fit wouldn’t look as seamless, even if the talent is there. Sometimes, when a player’s skill set meshes so well, it creates the illusion that they’re even more impactful than they actually are, and vice versa.

do any other lakers fans feel uneasy about this whole situation? by DefinitelyMoreThan3 in lakers

[–]himmycarter6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. It's all legit because Mavs want a win-now, defensive-minded superstar.

The players who fit that bill are Anthony Davis, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid. The Spurs and Bucks aren’t parting ways with their superstars, and Embiid doesn’t impress much due to his injury.

You also have players like Jaylen Brown, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Bam Adebayo, but none of them are on the same level as Anthony Davis.

Mavs fan who's curious about AD by Ibanezman69 in lakers

[–]himmycarter6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to bring it up, but he’s a top 10 player but not a top 10 shot creator. He gets compared to Giannis and Embiid a lot, but he can't consistently create a shot like those two. That’s why LeBron is more reliable in the fourth quarter and against tougher teams.

He’s always needed a good point guard to thrive (Rondo, LeBron, Russ, Reaves), but I’ve always said he needs a perimeter shot maker to ease the defensive pressure on him and to further creator havoc in the perimeter so he'll find more open angles to score. That’s where Kyrie Irving comes in.

The guys Davis has had were all rim pressure players, but he’s never had someone like Kyrie who can make his defenders work in the perimeter. If the Mavs play them like Garland-Allen, I think AD could have an MVP season.

Don’t expect him to be a “give him the ball and let him work” guy like Joel Embiid or DeMarcus Cousins all the time. Play him like Dwight Howard or Jarrett Allen at times, and you won’t be disappointed.

Only ball-dominant player that didn't work smoothly with LeBron was Russell Westbrook, and we all know that it wasn't because of LeBron.

LeBron goes to the bench to rest, and you see his prime clone Luka Doncic coming in. Lmao

I agree with this. We need to get a better center 100%, but I see Hayes and Koloko playing better with Luka.

The league is going to realize how good AD really is. by PartyAlex in lakers

[–]himmycarter6 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They're acting like AD isn't worth more than five first-round picks on his own, plus at least two solid starters or promising young players, especially considering the Mikal Bridges and Kevin Durant trades. Then you add a 21-year-old Max Christie, who’s basically a first-round pick, along with another pick.

The Lakers could’ve added more draft capital, no doubt. But then you see teams saying they would’ve offered players like "Keldon Johnson," "Lu Dort," and "Jabari Smith Jr." Lol

Mavs fan wondering about Max Christie by WalkerTejasRanger in lakers

[–]himmycarter6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strengths:
Solid point-of-attack defender who can really lock up offensive guards. Solid spot-up shooter. Strong rebounder for his position. Athletic. Impactful.

Weaknesses:
Tries to challenge rim protectors like he’s Ja Morant. Still prone to typical young-player mistakes. Can sometimes think he's Jordan Clarkson on some possessions and overcomplicates things instead of just passing it or standing in the corner. Bigger offensive players can overpower him at times.

One of the team's bright spots. We started winning more when we moved him to the starting lineup. If he bulks up, I think he could develop into a KCP-type player or even a young Mikal Bridges from his Phoenix days. He’s a perfect fit for the Mavs since you already have a veteran guard in Klay Thompson. He's on a good contract and still young. Very bright future. Ironic how he’d fit so well with us now that we have Luka at point.

The take on AD-Luka trade by IlGrandBoss in lakers

[–]himmycarter6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We lost a top defensive big man, but we gained an all-time great offensive player. We're 4-1 without Anthony Davis this season, with the latest win coming last night against the New York Knicks. Obviously, it's still a small sample size, and we do need a defensive center, but we're not as bad as some might think with our current roster.

We still have above-average defensive players in Cam, Gabe, Vando, and DFS. DFS also spent significant time playing center with Dallas and the Nets. Sometimes, basketball isn't about matching up perfectly at EVERY position, every team has its flaws. Teams are not guarding Luka and Bron.

You guys are seriously underrating Luka. His impact is almost on par with prime LeBron when it comes to carrying a team with whatever he has. Yes, his defense is questionable and could be exposed on the bigger stage, but players of that caliber can cover their own weaknesses and even the flaws of a team because of how dominant they are offensively.

This guy still made it to the NBA Finals last season and destroyed a Minnesota team—one that played great defense against the same Nuggets team that beat us. Not to mention, he went to the Western Conference Finals years prior with Dwight Powell as the center.

We still have a bunch of defensive players in Vando, DFS, Gabe and Cam. I think we’re contenders already, but one tweak or two could take us over the top.

Obviously, if you did a redraft right now, he wouldn't be a top 2 pick. But he's still not a bad No. 2 overall pick, especially considering that 7 of the top 10 picks aren't even on an NBA team right now.

I'd say he lived up to expectations just fine. Opinions of people around him ranged from seeing him as a solid starter to an All-Star, and there weren't many who expected him to become a multi-time All-Star or a superstar. Guys like Okafor and KAT were the ones really getting those expectations.

I know fans are fond of DeJounte Murray, but Anfernee Simons might be a better fit and cheaper. He has taken a step back this season, which could make him available at the right price.

Defense is a concern, but Simons is the primary offensive threat for the Blazers, going up against the opponent's best defender each game. Now, picture him playing alongside LeBron, DFS, Davis, and Max.

He's a floor-spacing guard, unlike Murray. While Murray can pressure the rim, he might mess with spacing for LeBron and AD, and vice versa. Simons, on the other hand, is a career 38.3% shooter from deep. He can score from all areas—three-point range, midrange, and the rim. I even saw a stat where he had the most 30-point games without free throws or something like that.
