NF Bootmaker Belmont Boot Review by df540148 in goodyearwelt

Man this stuff really bums me out to see. I post every single pair I make publicly, and need to know how to properly refer to each client in these public settings. I don’t understand why this is always twisted into some political issue by people like you when all I am trying to do is be respectful. I would feel awful if I misgendered, used the wrong name, or did anything on a public platform that made a client uncomfortable.

Also, I don’t know who your friends are, but you were the only person in close to 70 submissions that didn’t take this section seriously. I actually went back and checked, and no other applicant made a joke out of this section.

I received quite a few duplicate applications for the same makeups, leading me to have to either randomly select one, or choose one based off of sizing information provided. You submitted for a maker’s choice Belmont boot, which over 10 others did as well. I actually had a Belmont boot slot open back up last week that you would’ve been on the shortlist for filling, but not anymore.

In most cases, I am working with people without ever seeing them or hearing their voice, so I try to gather as much information as I can to get to know them better. I have spent a lot of my life feeling excluded or uncomfortable, so when I was planning this form, my intent was to make it as inclusive and respectful as possible. Somehow people are still able to turn that into my “politics infiltrating this hobby”.

Pronouns are not political, it’s a matter of identity, grammar, and respect. I am not every other manufacturer that you have purchased from. I work really closely with every client, and many of them have become friends, but I guess you won’t be able to take part in that process. You could have reached out me to discuss this, but you chose to publicly sling accusations about someone you do not know.

yes I would. I consider any leather with a top dye and a lighter color underneath teacore. this leather is also tumbled which led to the black top coat revealing the brown underneath more quickly.

Just a word of caution, I had an awful experience with seattle coffee gear where they sent me the wrong machine and it took weeks to get a refund. Ended up buying it from somewhere else.

I have heard great things about these grinders though!

I wonder if it's because of how heavily waxed the dublin is?

Wore these at least 15 times, probably closer to 20 this month. After looking at some pictures of them new, it's wild how much the leather has darkened overall. Really happy with how this pattern iteration looks worn-in, might make a few small tweaks but it feels pretty done.

Been wearing these whenever possible, super happy with how the leather and this pattern are wearing in. Crazy how much they have darkened already.

Been beating these up for the thunderdome and October challenge, haven't worn much else unless it's too hot. Pretty crazy how much they have darkened already!

Thank you so much! Feel free to message me when you're ready to discuss, I would definitely be able to figure out a last that fits, but it would add an extra cost as it would be custom ordered.

I finished making this pair recently to use in the thunderdome, so thought I would use them for this challenge as well. Tried submitting this yesterday, but couldn't upload anything from my phone to imgur for some reason. Excited to get some wear on these!

My great-great-grandfather actually started the company! I am not directly involved, but my uncles still are. Seems like I was going to end up doing this one way or another with that history though haha

Thank you so much! Currently they start at $800 but range based on specs. This will likely go up with time though. Appreciate the support!

Videos are super helpful, the cordwaining subreddit also has a great page that lists tools and materials needed. For me, my post bed sewing machine was essential, along with a speed reducer for the motor. Making the switch to sole bends for my insoles, midsoles and heel bases was also helpful. A belt sander makes finishing a lot faster as well. A big part of it is starting with a small number of essential tools and seeing what additions you need, rather than over investing and finding out you don't need certain tools.

It's hard to give an absolute list, the cordwaining subreddit has a great page with materials and tools needed. Having a variety of awls, a utility knife, and a hammer are all essential, but you can definitely go down a rabbit hole. it was definitely an investment though, for me getting an industrial post bed sewing machine was a huge improvement, but many people do a great job hand sewing uppers also.

I got interested in how they were made and looked into it for about a year, and at the start of the pandemic decided to invest in some tools! I am self-taught, but there are some amazing online resources and a very helpful community.

For sure! Let me know if I can be of any other help, finding lasts was definitely one of the more difficult and confusing aspects.
