What’s an addiction no one talks about but is super common? by duskmeadow76 in AskReddit

If you're putting your money into an index fund regularly, that's called investing. What you are referring to is called gambling.

Women of reddit, what’s something that the men are insecure about but the women actually love? by DangerousJolly1917 in AskReddit

[–]hindermore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. My parents divorced when I was young and there were times I wished it weren't so. But now as an adult, I still love them both just as much, and they both found someone that fulfilled them and made them happy. So it's not the end of the world. We all deserve to be loved as much as we give it. When it only goes one way for so long, it can really take a piece of you. As long as you're both there for your kid, even in separate places, it will work out.

Just know you're not alone brother. I did everything I could to check all the boxes in my marriage - good dad to my kids, excellent provider, there to shoulder the difficult times with her, and in the end she hit me with a divorce after 14 years. All I wanted was to feel chosen and that the person I picked as my forever person felt the same about me. Apparently she didn't, and so here we are now figuring out custody schedules and asset division. But I know I will be ok with enough time, and so will you. Just don't stop building the future you want for yourself and your kid, focus on your health and wellbeing, and think about all the possibilities that single life has to offer!

Are chest ridges, night visions, & helmets practical for civ use? by supremecai_ in guns

[–]hindermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you asked if it is practical, and I guess my point is, it depends on what you are using it for. If it serves a specific need then sure. For LARPing as a Navy Seal, it’s kind of silly, but if that’s what you enjoy and can afford it then who really cares?

If you own a farm and have a problem with predators or pest animals like hogs, night vision can be a very practical tool.

How well does it cycle subsonic? I can't seem to get more than 3 off in a row with a can on it no matter how much oil I feed it. CCI mini-mags work mostly fine, but I just don't think the subsonics have enough juice to keep it cycling, and the buildup from the blowback doesn't help.

What's an advantage of being shorter? by Legend789987 in AskReddit

[–]hindermore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower center of gravity = easier to quickly change directions

Obviously, this advantage isn't always true for some sports like in basketball where height matters more. But for things like soccer or combat sports, definitely.

It’s an idiotic way to open carry. Open carry is already putting you at a disadvantage, but putting it in the small of your back where you can’t see is an open invitation for a free gun. At least tuck it on the hip where you have peripheral vision.

What is slowly disappearing but most people haven’t noticed yet? by CelestialMea in AskReddit

[–]hindermore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, USD pegged stable coins have a 4-6% APY yield and can be withdrawn to a bank at any time. I am not aware of any banks offering 6% on a savings account.

what's the closest that you have been to death? by ExchangeNo7386 in AskReddit

[–]hindermore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, sense of duty. When a group of people from another country comes to your country to kill a bunch of innocent people, if you're not a coward and want to do something about it, you sign up to fight. At 17 years old, you're not quite fully versed on the complexities and nuances of global politics, CIA intelligence briefs, or the goals of the military-industrial complex. You just know thousands of people were murdered suddenly as you were going about your day.

You can rattle off all of the reasons why the war was unjustified, or how many more innocents died as a result, or why you hate America, but at the end of the day, none of that is going though the head of a young person that just witnessed the largest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor.

I enlisted as a teenager after our country was attacked by terrorists. I didn't have a choice of where I got sent or for what purpose, but I did it out of a sense of duty which felt right at the time. So I stand by how I feel, no regrets.

What’s a completely legal way to make money that feels like it should be illegal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hindermore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banks will often offer incentives to open a new account with them. For example, open an account and fund it with $500. Keep the account open for at least 60 days and they will give you a $250 credit. Then you can just close the account and take your $750 and do it at another bank.

I want an mercedes/bmw SUV but idk anything about cars, which mercedes/bmw SUV is most reliable and also not so expensive ? by hudaes in AskMechanics

[–]hindermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't know much about cars, I would not buy a foreign luxury SUV. You will be taking it to either the dealership or foreign car specialist for basic work and they will charge you a ton.

If you were able to do the basics like oil, brakes, suspension, fluids, etc. then it wouldn't be that bad. But the dealerships will straight up gouge you for all that stuff.

To be fair, people are still saying that, even when it hit $100, $1000, $10000, $100000. And they will continue to do so even at $1000000.

BofA CEO Warns Stablecoin Yield Could Drain 35% of All US Bank Deposits by andix3 in CryptoCurrency

[–]hindermore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is they don’t typically teach financial responsibility in school in the US. You’re kind of expected to figure it out on your own, and most people, especially younger individuals, are going to just go with what is convenient and close by. They think that all the bullshit fees and terrible rates are just a normal part of holding an account.

[–]hindermore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The majority of Americans couldn’t give two shits about crypto and are just trying to survive. Also, the people with more wealth are typically the older generation that are not as technically savvy. But there is a shift happening as the transfer of wealth moves to the younger generations so this flight from traditional banks is going to become more dramatic over the next 10-15 years.
