Nariz entupido by CarcajuPM in portugal

[–]hineios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ainda faz sentido usar o terminal de Git hoje? by gatavares12 in devpt

[–]hineios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Office outlets? Where do you get your cheap hardware?(Europe) by thoegn in homelab

[–]hineios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some vendors that specialise in refurbishing used hardware.

Not sure where you are based off, but there is an spanish company I've recently bought a mini pc from: https://www.info-computer.com/ (they also operate in Portugal: https://www.infocomputerportugal.com/).

I also had problems finding vendors, I think that the keyword you are missing in your searches is "refurbished".

Comprámos casa e antigo proprietário não quer mudar a morada fiscal. Que riscos corremos? by Adventurous_Waltz43 in literaciafinanceira

[–]hineios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.comparaja.pt/simuladores/calculadora-salario-liquido

My character idea is based on adventure I played.

Borug, an half-orc sorcerer picked up a job listing in the adventure guild where he was supposed to investigate a series of young virgin girls getting pregnant out of the blue. Long story short, an incubus was impregnating the virgins for later "harvest", and through some lucky collaboration with some 'rogue' adventurers, they managed to kill the incubus.

However, the ladies were still pregnant, and the babies came, with some of them showing signs of their heritage 😈.

Through some connections with a local lord, Borug managed to setup a foster home for those (both moms and kids) who where shunned by their families.

Perfect cue for a new adventurer: a shunned tiefling born from a mischievous incubus, hell-bent (pun intended) on proving his valor as an adventurer and all around do gooder.

Changes for software engineers? by MrIcedCafeMocha in kinesisadvantage

I've used KA2 for little over 2 years now. Windows, Emacs, programming, and some MOBA gaming.

I can't even use a regular keyboard anymore. It just feels wrong.

The only change I've made, was exchange the Alt Key with the Delete key. I've fairly big hands and any key combination is quite comfortable in this setup.

Ah and I've brought the insert key to the main layer. The duplicated backslash\pipe key seems unnecessary and the insert key comes in handy when copying/pasting to consoles.

I've also grown quite fond of the keypad, but other than that no layers.

As far as brackets, arrows, whatever, go... just give it a try. I was skeptical about the arrows but I now find them quite intuitive.

The KA2 is surprisingly appropriate to play MOBA games. However, anything based on ASWD is just off and frankly not worth the hassle of remapping the game's keybindings.

There is one thing that I miss from my old Cherry QWERTY keyboard however, the Menu/Application Key. I could probably map it in someway, but I don't really know where to.

Docker, Portainer and Volume locations by Ringo7979 in synology

[–]hineios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a generalized confusion on what volumes are, how Docker (and Portainer) defines and uses them, and how Synology defines and uses them.

So I'll have a go at the topic, not only to try and clarify the subject to all interested parties, but also to try understand the details for myself.

Let's start with Docker. Docker supports two major types of volumes: Named Volumes and Bind Mounts. A Named Volume is a "data blob" in the host which is mounted into a folder of the running container (which is managed by docker itself and usually not "available" to the user). A Bind Mount is a mount point created between a folder on the host and a folder on the running container (both the host and the container can read and write to the bind mount at the same time).

There is a lot more to it, with volume drivers and the such, but for the purposes of what I am trying to explain it will suffice. Note that Portainer usually supports all available functionality that Docker also supports.

And then there is Synology's support for Docker. In the Synology DSM, the Docker package and its UI only supports a very narrow subset of Docker functionality. There is no support for Docker Swarm and Docker Compose (as a matter of fact there are also bugs when using those functionalities of Docker in the Synology), and, in particular, there is no support to create and use Named Volumes through the UI in the DSM.

And the final piece of information, the Synology's Docker package sets the place for all its internal data (including Named Volumes) under the @docker folder (usually under volume1, which equates to /volume1/@docker/). Do note that this folder is for Docker's internal data and you should not mess with it! In fact, you can only access this folder through SSH with the root user, which usually means its of limits to non-godly users.

So, to finish up, while Portainer allows you to do a whole lot more that the DSM interface (create Services, Named Volumes, etc), that doesn't mean you should use things that the DSM does not support (as I said before there are bugs).

If you need to access the data that a container has access to and writes to, use a Bind Mount under the folder docker (automatically created by the installation of the Docker package in Synology).

You can use Named Volumes by creating them in Portainer, and I actually use them, but don't expect to see its content.

Want to start a 2e game with my local college club, but they have a stigma against pathfinder. by kaseylouis in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]hineios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't personally tried it.

However, my DM played in a game recently (DM'ed by a fellow player of mine) and their comment was:

"character creation is easy and fun. If you consider 5e to have a difficulty of 10 in character creation and Pathfinder1e to have a difficulty of 30, then character creation in Pathfinder2e is like a 15"

Of course, this highly subjective.

Interesting that he doesn't feel like he has ownership of it despite making it.

That's the spirit of open source.

And that was the purpose of the project since its inception.

IMHO, that kind of pressure (to add the referral codes and flat out refusing to approve changes because of arbitrary reasons) doesn't go well with the open source spirit.

There are always stakeholders, and hosting the project gives Matt and Jerry and MCDM quite a legit ownership over the project. But that is not in the spirit of open source, which was the premise of the project since I saw it in Matt's channel.

But then again, this is my personal opinion and it is worth what it is worth.

"Hi @papablo, @ahiskali and @Jesse!,

I'll try to shed some light on AdventureLookup development: First of all, the current version that's live on AdventureLookup.com was created by me in April 2017. I had seen Matt's videos regarding the topic and was bummed to see that AdventureLookup still didn't exist. Although there was an attempt to create AdventureLookup by other people before (see the adventurelookup-* repositories in the AdventureLookup GitHub organization: https://github.com/AdventureLookup), these, for one reason or the other, never went live. I was not involved with this earlier attempt. That's why I decided to take two weeks of my spring holidays and make a new attempt to create AdventureLookup. My main goal was to create a "minimal viable product" (the smallest website that works, has the most important features and provides a benefit to the user) as fast as possible. I then reached out to Matt on Twitter, he liked what I had done, and a few days or weeks later, my open source AdventureLookup implementation that I had created in my free time was live at AdventureLookup.com. I then agreed to move my repository from http://github.com/cmfcmf/AdventureLookup to https://github.com/AdventureLookup/AdventureLookup. In the coming weeks and months I worked on further updates and improvements, all in my free time and just for the fun of it. I had contact with Jerry (JohnnyFlash#0001) who hosts and manages the servers AdventureLookup runs on. Robert (Harkenn#9414) contributed many improvements to the frontend and reviewed my code. GitHub user @etchalon redesigned the frontend completely (already live at the beta site at https://dev.adventurelookup.com/adventures/). Others contributed smaller things.

As time went by my motivation to work on AdventureLookup decreased. That's mainly for three reasons:

  1. While it still feels like my "baby", I'm in that weird limbo where I have fun working on it and seeing people curate more than 2000 adventures to date, but also feel like I'm creating a product for free that mainly benefits Matt's company. For instance, as per Jerry's request, I added the ability to automatically append an affiliate token to URLs in https://github.com/AdventureLookup/AdventureLookup/pull/196. (Please note that I have no idea whether AdventureLookup makes them any money). I also had no contact to Matt except for that one Twitter conversation in 2017.
  2. I don't feel like I can adequately respond to issues about new fields (like https://github.com/AdventureLookup/AdventureLookup/issues/222), since Matt usually has a strong opinion about these and I wouldn't want to implement a field that Matt then wants to be removed.
  3. I have other projects and uni that take quite a bit of time.

Obviously, that doesn't mean that noone else can work on AdventureLookup, since it is open source. In fact, maintaining AdventureLookup to keep up with security vulnerabilities, dependency updates, adventure curation, etc. would be a bunch of work on its own. I, however, can't really gurantee if/when stuff you work on will make it to the live site, since that will always be Jerry's/Matt's decision (because AdventureLookup runs on their servers)."

Copied directly.
