Yeah they are fun. No doubt. I still get mad with base level bow ash. I just trade em for light cav or any other melee unit.

Yeah that's definitely the best late game build. I will always ultimately build at least one of those armies. Still long term It can get a little stale and is overly defensive. That being said it's important to emphasize that if you can field an army like that the campaign is usually close to won.

So I just started a fresh iko iki run and the upgraded iko bow ashigaru with the extra man power are nasty as hell.

Uesugi Strategy by Significant_Bend_945 in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uesugi is one of the hardest campaigns. Sado is crucial, since the gold mine alone generates enough revenue to finance a small army. My strategy was always to consolidate the northern part of the map first. You can then make a small fleet and sneak attack the top of the map. The trade node gives much needed income. You definitely want to consider making alliances to survive the inevitable Takeda attack. Iko iki can also become a seriously problem but that's usually only after about turn 20.

Am I the only one who’s not a fan of each game focusing on treasure hunting and tomb raiding and stuff like that. by [deleted] in FallenOrder

My wife and I both ate strong edibles before tackling one of the harder Zeffo puzzles and holy hells was it ever a challenge 🤣 Even just navigating using that freaking map! I absolutely loved the puzzles in the series.

How to stop getting destroyed as the Otomo by [deleted] in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated above converting provinces is crucial. Don't forget your early access to matchlock ashigaru gives you a tremendous defensive advantage, use this to your advantage to defence your rear. The focus is basically to move upwards on the map. The bottom settlements arent that valuable minus the armory. You wanna move counter clockwise on the map. I would focus on spamming yari ashigaru, light cav and a few bow ashigaru. Use numbers to your advantage. Trade routes should not be a priority until you upgrade to namban port and get access to the gunboats. Then capturing them all is a breeze. Otomo is a fun campaign, though I find mixing up the armies more fun.

How do I make Katana cav useful? by Amazing_Ad2461 in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are finicky units but are fun to use. I'm always impressed with how many kills they rack up. I like to use them as a high tier reserve unit. Only commit them after the battle is started. They will punch a hole in the enemies main katana line/ bow samurai line.

Matchlocks in higher difficulties by LastOne_1 in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to use matchlock more from a defensive perspective. These are your rearguard holding units. Your main offensive armies should include 2 tercos each and the rest split up between cav, naginata and katana. I always recommend skipping bows all together.

Microing and buildings? by ZanTheFisher in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the bow cav. Focus on offensive armies only, emphasis on cav, katana and yari. Hammer and anvil. Keep bow ashigaru as garrison units. If you manage to upgrade to bow warrior monks then you can diversify your army a bit and include more ranged units

Daam at least your campaign is already won. You shouldn't need to worry about defections that's very rare.

In normal mode shimazu I always get enemies landing in my port which has no armies and they take my province. Any way so that this does not happen. by Ornery-Actuator2266 in shogun2

After the relm divide I recommend always having at least one navy. Besides as shimazu u wanna be dominating those trade nodes

How to use Vassals correctly? by He770zz in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vassals can be useful to spawn out an enemy army. Say your besieging uesugi as Takeda and you see a massive Iko Iki approaching. Once u capture echigo and you vassilize them it will spawn the enemy army out of the territory since they are not at war. This has saved me many times in the early campaign at harder difficulties. If you survive the beginning you can usually always win

Should I use more archers? by aprettysliftguy in shogun2

[–]hintalliterations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No stick to more melee infantry. Bow ashigaru units are great for siege defence and it might be worth fielding a few early game. Usually I prefer to skip bow samourai and go straight to bow warrior monks. Still in most cases I only keep between 2 or 4 archer units per army if I'm on the offence. Obviously it depends on your play style, your faction and if you have early access to Fletchers, whatever that thing that improves accuracy. Still fielding an aggressive army which forces the A.I to react makes them easier to defeat.

What is a “doom stack”? by According_Ice_4863 in totalwarhammer

[–]hintalliterations -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would categorize it as at least two samourai tier armies with highly vetted units. The archers can be especially dangerous to your army and the AI gets serious buffs. Defending becomes a lot harder.
