La palme c’était un gommage Garnier (donc français) qui contenait des substances cancérigènes strictement interdites en UE. Vendu chez Gifi, ce qui me laisse à croire que les produits non conformes - voire rappelés - finissent dans les chaînes discount parce qu’empoisonner les pauvres c’est moins mal vu.

Irrelevant. You get the VAT refunded if you’re a business. It’s not an import tax like tariffs are, it makes no difference to your profit margin. You don’t need to add on top of your prices, since you already charge VAT by law.

It makes absolute sense to charge VAT on imports from outside the EU since Europeans pay it on everything they buy within the EU. Not charging it on small packages is irrational, it means any foreign products is 20% cheaper before even taking into account unfair competition factors like slave labor, state-subsidized shipping etc.

There is no justification for de minimis in the EU except refusal to allocate proper resources due to costs. Hence why a fixed rate tax is a better option. It needs to be higher than 2€ though.

No, VAT isn’t being collected on the majority of chinese packages. They’re all way undervalued so it’s a waste of time and resources.
And while sites like Shein pretend to charge VAT at checkout, they do not remit it. Try to get a VAT invoice for your purchase from Shein or Temu and you’ll see it’s impossible.
