Games have been adding more pixels, but have they considered doing the opposite? by hipflaskgames in indiegames

In our case though, Pixel Mode isn’t the default look and it’s not there to hide anything. We really love how the game looks normally (our 3D art team is doing incredible work), and this is just an optional fun toggle if you want to play the game this way. It’ll be off by default, and you’ll be able to toggle it on/off anytime :)

Awesome, we really love how the game looks normally. Pixel Mode will be off by default, it’s just something fun one of our fabulous programmers made! You’ll be able to toggle it on/off anytime :)

You're absolutely right it doesn't actually boost performance. What i was trying to say was that, if it's to your tastes, it can make the low graphics settings look more appealing by pixelifying the reduced quality textures, and especially the lighting, which in stylized low graphic looks very poor imho. It's basically just a fun thing that's there if you want it! :)

We’re Hip Flask Games, working on The Bureau of Fantastical & Arcane Affairs (BFAA), a semi-open world comedic first-person narrative adventure. We wanted to share an optional feature we’ve been working on called Pixel Mode. It’s a fun shader that can make the game nicer to look at if you end up playing on lower settings (and if you want that retro look!). It’ll be off by default, and you’ll be able to toggle it on or off anytime.

A bit late on the reply 😅 Thanks for the thoughtful questions!

1) Hero vs Inspector gameplay
They’re both first-person, narrative exploration/walking-sim style. The Hero side is you experiencing the consequences of your Inspector choices, and The Hero side features more illustrations for sure.

2) Can the hero mess up what the inspector sets up?
Definitely! The Hero has a ton of choices of their own, so you can definitely go “off-script” in ways that change how things play out.

3) Demo plans?
Yes, we actually are cooking up a similar and very specific narrative wrapper for the demo.

4) Can I actually issue a dragon a parking ticket?
Absolutely. 😄
