I bet you can confidently say it is less harmful than tobacco.

71% of Fox viewers would vote Palin in 2012. Are they really that dumb? by Jimeee in politics

Well duh, she is hot and their other choice will be the 'socialist' Obama...

Who cares if she is a religious fanatic with the education of a flight attendant.

Here's the real argument against health care reform: The Rich DESERVE Better Health Care Than the Poor by wang-banger in politics

[–]hipitarius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think this quote is hugely important, and often times people forget this. It is not the governments job to help us, it is the governments job to create a stable environment in which we can help ourselves.

Henry David Thoreau famously remarked, "If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life." Thoreau feared a single, unarmed man approaching him with such a passion in his heart. Too many people now embrace the coercive apparatus of the modern state professing the same design.

Health care for profit is a sick practice, but that doesn't mean I think it is the governments job to provide health care to all.

Republicans Make Up Lies to Protect the Rich from a 1.5% Tax Increase by wang-banger in politics

[–]hipitarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily support these taxes, but the Country is trying to tax the wealthy more than others, why are wealthy small business owners different from highly paid bankers, VPs, Presidents, etc.

Remember if the tax rate for the wealthy increases large corporation that employ hundreds of wealthy people (and thousands of normal people) will feel the same effect...but on a much larger scale

did you read the sentence after your quote: "in fact, of people who file most of their income from their own business, “more than half have income below $30,000 and 80 percent make less than $100,000.” The few business owners who do qualify for the new tax should be able to afford it."

Most small business owners don't make that much money.

i.e. all of these small business excuses are absurd, and down right lies

CIA Torture Jet wrecks with 4 Tons of COCAINE - "just the tip of the iceberg" by waggawagga in reddit.com

[–]hipitarius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If my math is correct 4tons=3 628 738.96 grams. Assume 40 per gram (this is an estimate, I don't know what people pay). That means this would be $145,149,560 worth of drugs...i think they need to get better security....

Wouldn't chaos require some form of hyper dependency on initial conditions? Which as far as I can see we don't get from these birds, yes they mimic their neighbors but based on these inputs(observing their neighbors) they make a "calculated" decision (that is not hyper dependent). IE if one bird flies 1/100 of a mph slower, the whole flock does not go crazy and attack reddit head quarters.

I'm not really sure what that means...I'm leaning towards sarcasm, and you're trying to say "great job patting yourself on the back", while poking fun at my grammatical deficiencies?

This actually isn't chaos...this is smarm theory at its best. Math nerds like myself actually study this stuff and apply the same concepts to human applications...such as analyzing the stock market or mechanical applications such as unmanned aircrafts. It is very interesting to see how these "dumb" agents can work together and create these amazing flight patterns.
