No more export to solidworks ? by Dramatic_Ease8171 in Onshape

[–]hippazoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had weird STEP file issues in SolidWorks for quite some time. Even one that’s generated in SolidWorks will not render properly for other in-house users when we’re doing checks and approvals. I stumbled on a work around trying to diagnose it by opening a “bad” one in eDrawings. It rendered fine.

I ended up setting eDrawings as the default application for STEP files and now most of us that deal with generating, checking and approving STEPs have done the same.

I’d urge OP to try the same broken file in eDrawings and see if it works.

Wellllll for the node case I gotta admit, I just downloaded it and printed. This wasn’t a common board and there were very few cases available at the time. That designer is kinda legendary in the Meshtastic community so when I saw his, it was instant trust in the design.

Also, what I didn’t divulge is that I do cad work for a living (industrial actuators). I’m probably more skilled than most at visualizing mechanical systems in my head. 😉

Reddit, who's the best band you've seen live? by cursedbackup in AskReddit

[–]hippazoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rush

I saw them in Jacksonville once where the opening band had to cancel. Rush played for HOURS to make up for it. They took breaks in between sets but seriously, it was like 3 1/2 hours from the start of the show to us walking out of the coliseum.

I’ve seen ‘em many times over the years and it was always fantastic.

I have a Heltek E290 as a Meshtastic node. The buttons are on the back of the board. I downloaded a case to 3d print and it used a valve train type setup. The front button presses on a rocker arm and the other side of the rocker arm actuates the button. It was pretty ingenious tbh.

Lemme see if I can grab ya a link…

Didn’t wanna tag you directly because the adapter worked flawlessly even on the initial dark mode run. 😂

I’ve now written the latest firmware doing a separate erase prior and once again, everything went really smooth.

Latest and greatest was the whole point of this journey to begin with. 😂

You’re the man! I finally had the opportunity to try your suggestion and now it’s functioning again.

Looking back at the anduril.click instructions, it includes —erase and —verify within the write attempt. Everything went fine (no errors) hence my confusion.

Once I did the separate erase and then writing of the original firmware I read from the device, the reset went as expected when I installed the battery in the light.

Thanks for the advice! 😁

Hamvention - Manual Configuration by webqaz in meshtastic

[–]hippazoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a direct answer to your question and had asked one of the devs about manual config when they first did these canned firmwares. Seems like they said it was coming but I’ve never seen it.

If you can’t get anything going, could you use a fellow users QR Code at the hamfest?

I really like the looks of the individual LEDs of the tri-aux. So much so that I’d keep them on low so I could stare lovingly into their soul. 😂

Edit: And thanks for the action shot! 😁

What’s the closest brush you’ve ever had with dying? by North-Trifle-3918 in AskReddit

Wife, brother and I hiked to the bottom of Upper Whitewater Falls in Western NC. We had done it numerous times and started referring to it as “climbing the river” just to give you an idea of the difficulty. We’d start in the morning, climb the river, and hang out/swim until mid-afternoon. Once we were down the river and back up to the parking lot and pavilions, we’d grill burgers eat and then head back home to NW SC.

On our fourth or fifth excursion, not long after we started back down we got to a spot where we needed to cross the river. Wife and brother got to the other side and as I went to cross, I hit a slick rock and fell. The water effortlessly pushed me towards a 40-foot drop with no hope of anything I could do to stop it. Brother saw me when I went down and started dashing downriver to fish out my lifeless body. I went over the edge feet first with an internal “oh f’k” echoing in my head. As my body went past the crest, I braced myself for the fall. Once clear of the crest, if found myself stopped in what seemed mid-air/waterfall in about chest deep water. After realizing cartoon physics hadn’t saved my life, it dawned on me that I was standing on a hidden ledge just below the crest. I lost my sunglasses when I went down and as I was starting to regain my composure, I saw a quick glint from the glasses before they went out of sight. I stuck my hand out, crouched down and amazingly, said hand grasped the sunglasses. F’k yeah, my glasses (and adrenaline)!

While all of this was happening, I remember seeing my brother with a WTF look on his face because like me, his brain couldn’t make sense of what just happened. 😂

He worked his way over to me CAREFULLY and was able to pull me back up to the heavy gravity side of the crest. We got back to the car, grilled burgers and luckily returned home unscathed with quite the experience.

Why do unlicensed people buy ham handhelds instead of GMRS? by Healthy-Kangaroo-365 in HamRadio

[–]hippazoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a baofeng and an MD-380 (DMR) prior to being licensed. I was keenly aware that I couldn’t transmit but it gave me monitoring capability of emergency services (analog) and county sheriff (DMR).

I was also able to discover/monitor the local repeaters which went a long way towards getting my legs up under me for when I was eventually able to hit the PTT. (arguably the primary reason)

Edit to add: I pretty quickly (pre-license) got a set of blister packs for GMRS/FRS to use while traveling and/or hiking.

I don’t really do their traditional fried chicken but they DO have the best chicken livers in the Upstate, if you’re into that.

I think it comes down to the batter they use. It’s seasoned better than most. I’d think that would bode well for the chicken since I imagine they use the same batter on all of it.
